  1. as stated previously, it's not the legality in question, constitutionality is. and as for precedence, this is what hoover did without the first computer, and it's still wrong. obama made lots of promises to get elected, and actually tried to live up to a few, but then reality set in, and it went just like cheney predicted in 2006. _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
  2. people are way too hot on not talking on phones while driving, or testing and driving than on things that really matter, like drinking or following too closely. these are the things that kill people, something i can attest to having driven over a million miles as a trucker and regularly driving more than 500 miles a week now. those multi car pileups are not caused by weather or conditions, they are caused by idiots following too closely. I text and drive all the time on a flip phone without looking at it, and can have a conversation while driving because I constantly scan for anything in the road ahead and all my mirrors. we need a program like Germany where you don't get a license until you're 18 and have taken a real driving course you pay for. _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
  3. i've tried to quit a thousand times, but this time for some reason, it stuck. i haven't wanted one nearly as bad as any other time and i think i'm done this time. that being said, i won't say i'm a non-smoker, just that i quit. but, if that's what she needs to hear for it to work for her, i say play along. it doesn't hurt anything. _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
  4. no, i would have to agree. i have heard of the same things being said by higher ranking individuals with no mention of being a traitor or prosecution. the thing that really outrages me is that nobody is calling for accountability or making them stop. the madness needs to stop now. it's high time the american people take the country back. _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
  5. thanx. my laptop had a cup of coffee dumped on it, so getting a supporting link or even trying to figure out what i've been reading is a real pain. not to mention going from win 7 and 8 gb of ram and suse, to win xp with 500 mb ram is driving me nuts. like i can click on something and go grab a sandwich. one thing on this article, it said that the govt attempt to prosecute "whistleblowers" was inversely proportional to the rank of the person accused. snowden doesn't stand much of a chance. _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
  6. I just read something about a guy that made a movie in 2008 about nsa recording phone calls and the fbi advisor on the set told him they had been doing that for a while and played him a recording of one of his calls from two years before. It was supposed to be on a talk show or something, came from one of the news feeds I read, maybe boing boing. _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
  7. i disagree. i will not surrender liberty for security. first off, there is no such thing as 100% security. but then, i have extreme views on that, i guess. i have been reading lately on the founding fathers, really good shit. i am beginning to get a better insight on their thoughts and feelings. turns out that a lot of them actually started wanting to split up the country early on. and wendy, even then, it's not safe. stuxnet? was that what took out iran's nuclear project? _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
  8. as i stated, he did it the right way. i am vehemently opposed to manning, he put innocent people at risk, snowden exposed the government trampling on the fourth amendment. he didn't really steal anything, either. did he? oh, yeah, the slide show. but the govt didn't really do that, all the companies asked said so. had manning used the correct procedure, i would be behind him. i think maybe age may have something to do with it, with a little age comes wisdom, or at least the ability to think through things. sometimes. _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
  9. that was like the ti 99-4a, i remember typing for hours and saving it to a cassette. then you get to play the game, a corny scrolling river with obstacles and a boat going down. but there were some really cool games that came in cartridges you could put in the console. i had mine until i gave it to my daughter a few years back. the number one was broken, not much you can do without that, wouldn't even boot without pressing 1. _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
  10. just my opinion, however, i firmly believe this guy did things right. he only released select documents, didn't put anyone at risk, and came forth almost immediately afterward. poor guy don't have much of a chance though. _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
  11. i tried the cog and it didn't have the shutdown option, just hibernate, standby, and log off. didn't see the control panel either. the way i get to the control panel is hit the windows key and r, then type appwiz.cpl, and in the address bar of the add remove programs, hit control panel. i still remember a lot of the run shortcuts and they are all still there. but i've been a tech for years, average people don't know these. if i had more time, i would get out my vmware windows 8 machine and play with it. thing is, after working so much during the day, i don't want to take any time away from the family to learn something that should be, if not intuitive, at least make sense for a computer tech. this is why i like linux more and more. like was mentioned earlier, with more applications being web-based, all you really need is a browser. i hardly boot windows except for some specific things _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
  12. i was on an hp warranty repair the other day and had a hard drive swap. i recovered the data from the old one while the new one setup. when i was done and showing the customer around the profile, i really just showed him the password and then asked him how to shit it down. he didn't know, and all i could think of was clicking on the desktop and hitting alt f4. the only way i can get around in 8 is the run box. _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
  13. man...i can see how you can leap to a conclusion that i support the current regime in charge here, or even stretching it that i agree with either recent war. i assure you i do not. i hate what has become of the government, but the more i read about the revolution, the more i find that it really wasn't a lot different. you should look into some of it sometime, interesting stuff. but i digress. you keep throwing around arguments about the legality of the war and his exposure of illegal things. this is moot. most of it was not illegal, he swore an oath to safeguard it, and there were legal channels available to expose wrongdoing. end of fucking story. he is a traitor and a threat to national security. a spy , if you will, in one sense. _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
  14. i would disagree. i love change, personally. but at work, i like a tried and true (and common) interface. i dual boot and usually change os's every month or so. i have to use windows for some work, inssider is easier to use and visual basic doesn't work in wine too well. as for work, going from xp to 8 is a nightmare. it is understaffed and overworked now, when they have to retrain an entire workforce, it's going to be bad. at least 7 will be around for a while, but i heard not as long as xp was. glad as hell that i am finally a consultant and company owner. i may be poised in the right position to make some serious cash if i can set up some training. and i am pretty good at that, the army taught me well. _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
  15. i would love to know where you got the ucmj thingy you quoted. i really loved the part at the bottom. do you honestly think that shit would work? i really want to believe that you are messing around, like a devil's advocate. i am speaking from real life, not a movie. and it has also been backed up by research how people do shit they wouldn't do normally when placed in extreme circumstances. i have never been ordered to do anything illegal, can't say what would have happened if i had, i probably would have refused, but try to detain the one who ordered it? sure, i'll get right on that. and if you find it difficult to answer a question about what you would do with access to classified information, i hope i never meet you in real life. on the internet, you expect some people to act differently while anonymous. but to have an attitude toward your word such as this? at least politicians and lawyers try, they usually start out honest(not that they are all dishonest, or even most, i just don't care for them as a group, my predjudice). you are basically saying that you are not to be trusted. hell, i'm not perfect, but if i say i'll do something, i'll do it. and a verbal contract with me is binding. this shitball is yet another example of the degradation of our society as a whole, and your attitude, the total lack of honor, showing support for him, speaks volumes of how easily society has been led down this path of destruction. and i'm not trying to single you out, i see the same thing on facebook and around the internet. the more i see, the more i want to prepare my secret compound in the woods. _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
  16. i wasn't really trying to present an image of honor or integrity with this statement, i was little pissed. i don't think i would really recommend death for this infraction. kinda like it's not against the law to be stupid. hard to imagine what he was thinking, if he was as smart as i've heard, wtf? had to be for sensationalism. _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
  17. the bad thing isn't the touch screen part, it's that it needs one to function properly. and also needs users to be retrained. in a business environment, touchscreens are bad. have you ever sat with your arms raised for 8 hours? and retraining users, especially older users is going to be expensive. a lot of companies are still on xp, how easy will converting to 8 be for them? i would rather see linux step up and fill the niche for business, a lot of the free office software works with microsoft office, just missing some of the bells and whistles that are just for looks anyway. just the cost savings in license fees should cover any extra expense from converting. _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
  18. another thing that i have not seen mentioned is that people were a lot stronger in ww2. that generation had a lot more hardships to face on a daily basis and they faced death and bad shit first hand and were more involved with it. this generation are more insulated and a bunch of pansies. no offense to anyone, it's just the way it is. just like my generation is more insulated than the one before, and so on. technology is making us softer. there was a great show on the other night called going ape. it was amazing watching us act just like chimps. and it actually surprised me how much warfare is ingrained in them. _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
  19. and a whole lot less of this shit would happen if we didn't have to get a credit report to get a fucking job. or insurance. it's a great big scam: insurance and credit. all subsidized by the government. _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
  20. now you're just being facetious. trying to change the subject is not going ot do it here. it matters not one iota if the war was legal or not. when you are a soldier, you do what you are told and go where you are told. this is very necessary in order for the majority to survive. there are times when the system doesn't work, but so what? look back in history and you can find many examples of this. it all boils down to honor. i am satisfied mine is in tact. yours worries me just a tad. there are some things i feel strongly about, honor and integrity are two. fucker should be shot as an example. _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
  21. me neither! i think i could find a use for it... _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
  22. it's really not too bad. the govt is keeping a database of dna. all we have to do is get the chinese to wipe it remotely. they can't seem to keep them out of anything. or maybe a job for anonymous? _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
  23. i do not agree with the military most of the time. even so, there are things i still cannot talk about, because i do no know if they have been declassified. we weren't even allowed to say what country we were in in 2002. i guess we were not supposed to be there. i still won't say, even though it has been 11 years and is well known. that is what it's like when you swear an oath and have enough honor to keep it. or would it be integrity? either way, he was dead wrong. all he had to do was a quick search on the internet for what to do with his info. _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
  24. do you know how to read? if not, grab someone and have them read my post to you. then have them type an appropriate response. _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
  25. i know that in opera, it works just like that. i use firefox, but i think you can make it do the same thing. look for parental controls or something in the options. not sure about chrome or ie, i only use those for testing websites when i develop. _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
