  1. have you ever walked around parts of oakland at night? even when i was carrying, it was exciting. _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
  2. what a truly beautiful picture! congratulations. _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
  3. nothing new there, you covered it with the first line. thanx for the link to the book, it will be interesting to pass the time. anonymous web browsing is a thing of the past, ancient history in web years. _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
  4. i am truly glad that you feel that way and i will have to agree on the main issue here as you have stated. however, in most places, the thinking is not the same. our culture has eroded to the point that when women think of having a baby, the first thing they think of is a hospital. this is quite wrong and should not be that way. also, in addition to your reasons, i will have to add that designer c-sections should not be the new trend. having said that, i have to disclose that my segment of midwife friends is higher than average, so i have a lot of information that most of america doesn't. _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
  5. they're stacked against babies when women are led to believe doctors should be in charge of birthing babies for normal pregnancies. when the process is left to qualified midwives, the odds return to the babies' favor. _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
  6. what a lot of people don't realize is that saddam was actually doing a pretty good job of running the country. with the cards he was dealt, looking at the factions and political diffences in the people, he had a pretty good control and relative stability. before desert storm, they had the best hospitals in the mid east and they even had running water and electricity as well as telephones. fast forward to their "liberation": the infrastructure is beyond falling apart, it doesn't exist. the only people who have done any good from all of this are government contractors(and they were awarded without competition to you know who). you may call me a conspiracy theorist, i don't care. i really believe that in looking back, the govt didn't cause 9/11, but they damn sure knew about it and didn't stop anything except the one plane that was going to hit the white house. as far as proof, look at who gained the most since the attacks. bush and his cronies aren't smart enough to orchestrate this. but they had the intel and were waiting for it to happen. you guys all seem to conveniently forget that saddam and bin laden were once in the pocket of the cia. the world works in darker ways than alot of you will ever know. i for one don't want to know the truth, it's too dangerous. i like my life of bliss(ignorance). it's the best way to watch my son grow old. _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
  7. Only Hydrogen has that characteristic. now i may not be a chemist, but when i was researching biodiesel, i read about how to make it. i found in several places that when you use vegatable oil for fuel, you need regular diesel fuel to start the engine and then you can run it off of veg. oil. if you wanted to run it off of veg. oil only, you mix it with lye and something else(it's been over a year and the memory doesn't retain unused info that long), then skim off the by-product leaving you with biodiesel that you can use without modification to the engine. The sources i used(one was discover magazine) were reputable, and all of them stated that the only emission was H2O(water). now, i may have believed info without first testing it, but as i have since dropped the project, felt that testing was not needed. _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
  8. relatively? if someone were to use a little inventiveness, they are totally emissions free: when you mix vegatable oil with a couple of things, you get biodiesel and the only emission is water. if the govt had balls, they could do away with gasoline engines in 10 years, requiring diesel hybrids to replace gas engines, and all diesel to be biodiesel. if that is, there weren't so much profit in oil. _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
  9. this statement has prompted my first post to these forums in over a year. first of all, i have a four year old boy and try to set a good example for him. i don't curse around him, have quit smoking, use manners, and we always have family meals at the table with the tv off. the problem i have with the language on tv is not that i let him watch anything unsupervised (except his movies on dvd or tape), but the fact that on some evenings, the wife and i will be watching a show with him playing in the same room. in this case, i don't want him to overhear it. when we go to friends' houses, if they curse, it's no big deal because he does know that there are things that adults say that he is not to repeat. it is not like he hears them all the time, but when he hears people he looks up to saying them, he is more likely to repeat them. i don't see what literary point is being made by the use of profanity. although i am firmly rooted in my belief of freedom for everyone to do anything that doesn't interfere with anyone else, this clearly interferes with other people, namely the right to raise their children without profanity around. _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
  10. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060412/ap_on_sc/sweden_ancient_dung man, thanx for the help. i swear i tried that before just like that, but it didn't work so i stopped trying. now i've finally done it. _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
  11. the jobs that pay in cash to which you're referring is nothing more than what is called 1099 fraud. if you are contract labor, then you're employer gives you a 1099 to pay your own taxes. if not, then you get a w-2 and taxes withheld for you. this is a large problem for constuction workers like myself especially. i used to be one, having worked for over five years, and given my employers wrong ssn's. then i paid no taxes at all, there was no trail to my ssn and any income. when you are young and stupid, you do stupid things. but i lost out on five years of ss benifits and ended up hurting myself unknowingly. illegal immigration is a very large problem in the us, and in the current state of politics, looks like it will get worse. how can a union carpenter making $24 an hour with benifits compete with an illegal immigrant making $6 without benefits? that is the reason that in wv there are almost no union carpenters in the residential sector. _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
  12. i just read this and thought i would share with everyone. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060412/ap_on_sc/sweden_ancient_dung i really have tried several times to make a clicky, i guess it's just over my head. sorry. _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
  13. when you have one of the major religions of the world (catholicism) that will allow no use of contraception, i'm thinking that you are making a flawed argument. and the thought process isn't mine, i simply agree with it. there is no sense in allowing the infant mortality rate to be as low as it is, when that was just nature's way of weeding out the weak from the gene pool. why do you suppose that there are more and worse diseases and ailments today than previously in history? hell, we as a people can't even get along with each other long enough to come to terms on feeding the world's hungry, or providing basic and i mean less than $20 worth of immunizations for 3rd world people, and you think that we can agree on any type of contraception that would control the population? i'd like to join you in your utopia if there are any seats left. i live in the real world, where we are destroying the planet we live on, with no place to go, and the saddest part is, if there were any money in it, we could stop it in 15 years. but there are too many people making too much money and unwilling to give up any creature comforts in the civilized parts of the world for it to change soon enough to make a difference. and people like you continue to spout this bullshit about people being assets. right. some are, the vast majority are just along for the ride. i can't remember inventing anything useful in my lifetime, and nobody that i personnally know has either. granted, i only know about 1500 to 2000 people (estimated), but still a dismal percentage. i'll say it again: wake up, america! _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes

  15. you may think it's silly, but if we weren't struggling to live past 100 and wiping out every disease that exists, then we wouldn't be overpopulating the planet. it is a fact that there is only so much room to live and grow enough food, not to even mention provide comforts for, so many people on the planet. i'm not going to convince anybody anything on this website, and i'm not trying. i'm merely pointing out a point of view, mine. and it's not silly, it's a fact that the earth is trying to control it's own population. the silliest thing is that the people in power are too greedy and stupid to see it and fix the problem before it's irreversible: think global warming. _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
  16. it sounds like he's echoing one of my thoughts, that our population is rising too fast for the earth to sustain us. the thing we can do to stop it is just quit trying to extend our lives. the earth formulated cures for overpopulation many times in the past: aids for one, ebola, bird flu, etc... we need to stop looking for cures for them and just accept that we're all gonna die eventually. _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
  17. and i suppose that you are one of those idiots who would like to push your values and beliefs on everyone...someone who just knows everything that is their way is right, the only way. i'm gonna quit typing here because i usually don't try to fight ignorance with facts. the fact here is that people are different and cultures are different and what works in some cultures will not work in others. end of discussion. _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
  18. i'm not surprised at your attitude, just embarrassed by it. there is no room in this world for prdjudice in any form. that's just another form of racism, and living in wv, i've seen plenty of it. _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
  19. now, now....that last statement about being at war with these people, smacks of predjudice. true, some of the extremists are extremely bad people, but that is why they call them extremists. the mainstream islamic people are not bloodthirsty nor evil. they don't have to like us any more than we have to like them, however, we need to respect their right to be different. that applies only to the peaceful majority of muslims.....extremists who are violent need to be dealt with with force. _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
  20. well, one thing is for sure: that took balls. i admire someone like that. if only half the people in the world thought like that, we'd be ok. _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
  21. about the thing not being publicized, i saw an article about it in time magazine over two weeks ago. _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
  22. not referring to you in particular, just in general terms as there are a lot of people who do it. i really like the way billvon does it with small sections and quotes. however, i do understand the keeping it in context thing, sometimes it is necessary, especially when the thread covers several days or weeks. _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
  23. why do some people hit the quote button to put a few lines in response to a post, like you do? it makes the post you put in insanely long and you have to read the same thing like 20 times before getting to the real stuff. unless you skim and then run the risk of missing something worthwhile. _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
  24. since i do know a bit about horses, i will have to make a couple of points about the statement regarding them. frist, wild horses of similar breeds are usually the same size as their domesticated counterparts. one example i can think about is the mustang of the plains, and there are a couple of breeds in the steppes of central asia. second, the horses natural diet of grasses is the best thing to feed to domesticated horses, simply because that is what they are engineered for. the only time that any grain at all is required is when they are being worked really hard, which a lot of horses aren't. the way that they get the forage is the same in the wild as in domestic animals, that is, grazing. they eat constantly in order to get the necessary nutrients from the food, and that is evident in the way they they are designed, ie: when they are eating, the ears are higher that the grasses to hear predators, and the eyes are up out of the grasses to see. the things they don't digest readily are non-cracked grains and oats, and some processed foodstuffs. it is also very bad for their teeth when they are deprived of the natural grasses. the teeth continually grow and the only thing that wears them off is the constant gnawing from grazing. when this no longer happens, they need to be floated, filed, at least once a year to keep healthy. the nutrients are removed from the grasses in a very efficient manner, leaving only the by-products, celluloses. it is also almost totally dry, having used up most of the moisture. _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
  25. Guy gets on a plane and finds himself seated next to a cute blonde. He immediately turns to her and makes his move. "You know," he says, "I've heard that flights will go quicker if you strike up a conversation with your fellow passenger. So let's talk." The blonde, who had just opened her book, closes it slowly and says to the guy, "What would you like to discuss?" "Oh, I don't know," says the guy, smiling. "How about nuclear power?" "OK," says the blonde. "That could be an interesting topic. But let me ask you a question first. A horse, a cow, and a deer all eat the same stuff -- grass. Yet the deer excretes little pellets, the cow turns out a flat patty, and the horse produces muffins of dried poop. Why do you suppose that is?" The guy is dumbfounded. Finally he replies, "I haven't the slightest idea." "So tell me," says the blonde, "How is it that you feel qualified to discuss nuclear power when you don't know shit?" _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
