  1. when people invented cars, there were a lot of people that said they weren't as good as horses. they were right, of course everyone knows that. the same with planes, man can't fly. and then space travel, we can't put a man on the moon. i could go on and on, but you get the point(i hope). and it's not my job to prove anything about industrial hemp, that's been done for me. the uses are too many to put down here, but i will list a few: paper, clothing, paint, plastic, cosmetics, in fact over 25,000 environmentally friendly products. just because people don't take advantage of them doesn't mean it shouldn't be used. as for the article, the reason i didn't quote numbers is because i don't have the article. i donate old magazines to my library when i get finished with them. i'm not a scientist or an engineer, just a concerned citizen. it doesn't matter what the cost of the technology happens to be, if it saves the planet, it's worth it. as far as bill using solar power, that's great. i do know one thing about that from shopping for a system for my home: the solar power that's in use today produces 120v ac. had you bothered to actually understand what i wrote, you would notice that i'm talking about producing a max of 12v dc. it doesn't take a lot of sunlight to produce that. as for the cost of producing that, look it up yourself. when people quit saying we can't do something and start looking for ways to get them done, we all benefit. _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
  2. you guys are missing the point here. these strips are commercially viable now. the reason noone uses them is that the technology is being repressed by electric and oil companies because they don't have a hand in on it. they're not going to let money slip from their fingers. and on the hemp thing, a lot of people do use it, i can't remeber where i saw the stats on it. once again, govt this time is repressing the stuff because they are spending billions on a drug war and think that this is the first step toward legalization. whenever you have a bunch of old, socially repressed, rich assholes running your country, you are not going to see much change. all of these politicians are wealthy, and they'll never have to worry where the next meal is coming from, or whether they can pay for gas. i'm not, and i want my children to get a chance to grow old. as for the thing about adding a circuit, you're way off, couldn't be more wrong. i'm talking about voltage in dc to all outlets switchable from 3v to 12v. just like those cig lighter adapters for cars. look back to the history of electricity and if tesla would have been a better lobbyist than edison, we'd be using dc now, because it's more practical. we have the technology, bt are too scared to use it correctly. we're all gonna pay for it, it just makes me sick that noone is willing to try. _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
  3. the thing everyone is missing here is industrial hemp. it produces more veg oil than anything we have available now, and the short growing season means that in warmer climes, you can grow it year round with 4-5 harvest per year. factor that in with replacing trees to make paper, and it is clearly the answer to most of our problems here. the problem, it's illegal. stupid, narrow-minded politicians piss me off. also, there was an article in discover magazine a couple of months ago about cheaper and innovative solar technology. they use strips of some kind of plastic-like stuff which is more efficient and a lot cheaper to make than panels. you could have enough to supply your house alone from the roof. the only thing you need is a good bank of batteries. the problem with solar power is people are thinking 120v ac. all appliances(except stove, dryer, water heater) run off of small dc current. we could convert all other appliances to these voltages and supply enough of our own energy to sell it back to electric companies. all we need is to have a switching system in the house to provide 4 different voltages switchable at the plate in the wall. of course, we would have to retro fit houses that are already built, but its a small price to pay for free energy and independence from oil. all of the buildings in all the cities could be covered with the stuff to gather enough energy to run the city. the solutions are out there now, and what really pisses me off is everyone is too complacent and comfortable to want a change. well, i hope everyone is ready for some real hard times, some people predict the oil to diminish drastically after 2008. _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
  4. your welcome. while i missed the latest conflict, i did catch the first part back in 91, and then got activated for enduring freedom in 02. i would like to extend my wormest appreciation for the soldiers we have and wish them all the best. i do, however, think that this latest war is just plain wrong. anyone all day long can say "we were protecting the iraqi people", well that may be true. that does not make it right, and what about the civil wars that have wracked several nations in africa, or any of the bloodshed that is going on everywhere else in the world? they don't have anything that we need. bottom line, this was about oil, and maybe someone was a little pissed off that his daddy got insulted and decided to do something about it. what happens when england decides that they can do a better job governing france, and then sends troops in? ok, bad example, but you get the point. i hate being lied to. of course, had they told the truth, it would have never happened. but you'll have that when half your cabinet is embedded in major oil companies and construction firms with contracts in iraq now. _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
  5. do you guys use union labor? i'm a journeyman carpenter always looking for some tips on where i can find employment. talk about language differences at work: i was in the military for 11 years(4 as a combat engineer, the rest in a special forces unit)and a construction worker for almost 10. then i got a job as a telemarketer. talk about hard not to use "bad" language. my 2 y o sonhears stuff every now and then, but we try to limit it. he has been to the dz(military) before, he loves chopper jumps. whenever someone at one of our dz's brings kids, we try to watch our language around them, it's called respect...for the guy who brought his son/daughter to watch dad jump. if we feel the need to swear, we walk away from them. if they overhear something, oh well, look at where they are. and if you think it gets bad at a civilian dz, just think about all that adrenaline mixed with just testosterone(no women allowed in the unit-no supervision) then mix the alcohol in after the jump....i agree with the consensus, however i try not to do certain things in front of children it's the way i was raised. _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
  6. no, originally it said that he had his house raided due to gunshots reported by neighbors. it seems that some people were thinking that by telling the dzo he was wanted in case they come looking for him, he was ratting someone out. this is not the case, it is simply letting friends know there may be a possibility of heat looking for him and giving them a chance to hide their questionable activities. _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
  7. it's not gay(like it matters), i have a pic of a guy with his thing in a mousetrap. i cringe if i look at it, but my morbid curiousity made me save it to show other people. _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
  8. it's not so much that in effect, as it is like in christianity, do good things for a reward later. and in all of the other major religions that i can think of, it's all the same in basic theory, i.e. one creator(or more dieties), do good to others, not getting any reward until death, reincarnation, etc. in my studies of world religion, i have touched breifly in all of them except some of the newer ideas, such as scientology. there are well over 100 religions different enough to be classed seperately, many with factions within the classes. then take into account that different people get different things from the same religion and it is staggering for any one person to be well-schooled in all of them. in other words, i'm intoxicated and wanted to start a discussion in common beliefs by a group of people who face death for fun. _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
  9. i just read a post in another thread where someone doesn't believe karma exists. i'm not trying to start any crap, but doesn't a version of karma exist in all religions? i'm trying to think of one, but keep coming up with only atheism and maybe certain science-based ones. i'm not too familiar with those, so can anyone help? _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
  10. i'm going to risk being off subject a little with one more comment: i can dig up studies that show anything i want to show. there are too many ways to influence numbers and statistics, look at any politician. in response to the part about way too many snitches, i agree 100%. the only thing i was getting at, was to warn people at the dz that the feds may be looking for him. it's not called snitching, that's common courtesy involved with maybe keeping your friends from being needlessly harrassed. imagine if you had a joint for the parking lot safety meeting, and here comes a k-9 unit looking for a man on the run and you go down because nobody warned you to keep it at home. _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
  11. i just have one question: what's it like on the "other side"? ok, one more: which religion is the right one? _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
  12. are you talking about pedro munoz-donez? he was attached to a different group when i got out....can't remember which one _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
  13. what group are you with? i just got out of the 2/19th. we went to oef in 02. i still have some friends in 5th group, but since i'm out of the military completely now, i guess i'll lose touch with all of them.... _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
  14. about the non interruption thing, i have no idea. but before i got "interrupted" i jumped almost every weekend(except for weather) sometimes 2-3 times a day. i had 32 jumps in and a problem with a slight left hand spin. that coupled with a job change, not too good marriage, and military deployment, led to a 3 year absence. i now have over 70 jumps and no license. i plan to finish up and get it this spring. the one thing i can say from experience is that if you go s/l, you'll have better canopy control. also, get someone who has been airborne in the military to show you a correct plf in case you ever need it. civilians just don't get it. in airborne school, you practice plf's for two weeks before you get in the air on a chute. now i realize that with a square, you'll probably never need to plf, but it pays to know what to do if you do need it. keep your feet and knees together, don't reach for the ground, and listen to your instructors and do what they tell you. you'll have a blast. good luck _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
  15. read it again, it's all 100% true. hold on, can a rigger pack a container lock on a reserve? they are all true statements. you can do everything 100% perfect and still die.....cool huh? _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
  16. i prefer rounds because they've been around longer, to me that gives me the feeling of safety, reassurance. i will need that in an emergency. the new sf-10a gave me my second stand-up landing, and that was with 15 knot winds gusting to 20. if my rigger packs it, it will open. if it opens, it will save my life. or not....the chances we take. end of story. they don't all work all the time. you're not always in the good situation, you're not always going to walk away from one. or maybe you will. or maybe when you hit the ground, you get shot, or maybe in the air....oh yea, i'm not in the military anymore.....you get the idea smeger....listen to what they tell you and if you need to plf, keep your feet and knees together..... _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
  17. i recently had a run in about pot, it sux. yes i smoke it, but i don't do anything wrong. i wait until after the jump light is off and the beer light is on. i don't do it on dz property, or have it there. if anyone gets in trouble it's me. nobody knows, nobody gets hurt. it's proven safer than alcohol or nicotine, oh, well. in this case, the thing to do would be notify the people involved, the dz, etc. the feds may come around looking for him. he broke the law, got caught, that's what happens. _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
  18. i'm with tdog on this one, but remember that you cna't get karma if that't the only reason you do the thing. this is a cool gesture. _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
  19. i have a friend who lives in athens, xenia sounds good. have ya ever been to tri state by huntington? they get to do haho(i forgot the civilian term for it) jumps over 3 states. we were on the dz one day when all of a sudden about 30 cutes just came into view. the plane was on the ground and then when they got close, we could tell they were military. it turns out that they missed their dz by about 3 miles. i later joined that unit, then i got out. laters, _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
  20. where do you jump? i live 30 min from athens in wv, i drive to chesapeake oh(90 min drive). if there's something closer, i'm there....of course i have to get a license first.....or know someone who will fly me to altitude and let me jump out....whichever _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes

  23. thanx for the greeting, i look forward to doing some freefall again, those 800' jumps kinda suck. except the water jumps. _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
  24. i just found this site while shopping for a rig to get back into the sport side of jumping after a 4 year absence. i was in an sf unit in the army and have 32 jumps with them, but it's not the same. when i quit sport jumping, i was a s/l student with 42 jumps(i fell out of currency a lot and kept going back to the prcp). now i'm out of the military, so i'm going back to jumping for fun. looking forward to the forums. _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
