  1. now i'm not one to assume many things, but it looks like you're arguing this black/white thing again @jakee. @BIGUN can be right on this one, since he is using anecdotal evidence and you are not. the military isn't a thing like amazon. it's more like the country, in that it's made up of different subsections of the country. some areas (units, or bases) are doing a lot better fighting racism than others. some types of people (different jobs like infantry, artillery, etc.) are doing better than others. for example, it looks like ft hood is struggling with females and assaults, while most other places are doing better with it. another thing he didn't account for is the difference between special operations and the regular military. they are mostly better at a lot of things. he was also in a long time ago, so some of his observations don't match mine. also, it's hard to get a thorough look at the whole military while you're in. you see maybe one or two units in a four year tour, and even then, you only see the part you're involved with, unless you reach a level of command so you can see more, but then you lose the troops' perspective. not to mention the tabbed guy factor he had that i didn't. sometimes it let doors open for you, sometimes it was easier to get around unnoticed without it. i think it's the time factor more than anything here, since i saw some shit back in the late '80s that would never fly today. platoon sgt wiping coke off a mustache during in ranks inspection, walking down a pt test 2 mile run passing a bottle of jim, and some self incriminating things i'd rather not mention. it's not like we were looking over our shoulders either, i could trust that any of our guys had my back regardless of color. same goes for anything i post about the military, my experience ended in '04, and it has changed a lot since then.
  2. yeah, that most certainly shouldn't happen, unless absolutely necessary. i prefer to look at things and judge them on the merit of the thing rather than assume something, then look for evidence to support or debunk it. starting with an open mind helps a lot of things. too bad THAT isn't taught in school.
  3. it's only astonishing when you give them the benefit of the doubt and assume they are NOT racist. this is another great example of the passive racism. when examined under the assumption that they WERE racists, it loses the astonishment factor.
  4. ya know, it could be connections held open by internet scans or something like that. some sort of a dos attack exploiting a vulnerability in the software that needs patched. i have done that before with a scanner sending malformed packets that open a connection and hold it when the server is waiting on a response that never comes. i'd be curious to see a packet capture from the server when it happens.
  5. it means i question what they are saying. anyone who uses certain phrases which have been identified as being dog whistles, a term i just learned of this past year, or other things that some are saying are now racist needs to have their words examined to see if they really are just passive racists, as some are, or are just not up with the times and how language evolves. for example, i used to say "i don't see color" to mean that i see everyone as equal. that term has since become a dog whistle used by passive racists. i stopped using it so as not to be associated with racism. does that mean that everyone that still uses it is a racist? of course not. but that, taken along with other dog whistles and the tone of speech used can be combined to point to that. it's not the only thing i use, since that can just mean the individual is repeating things they hear, and not familiar with the changed nature of the words. or it can mean that person is in fact a racist. in your case, i have determined that you did not mean anything racist when you said that, not that it matters much what i think about you, but it does need to be said. and know that i have been wrong before, and have misjudged folks both ways, so i tend to keep a judgement like that to myself anyway so as not to alienate everyone in my life. when i was the eo nco in the special forces, not tabbed of course just a support mos, there was an incident when i learned that blacks were referred to as a #5, which comes from crayons, since the black crayon is the fifth one in the box of eight. i never reported that person, and i should have. at the time, there were no black soldiers in the unit, so i let it go. that was a mistake, but i have since moved on after finding out there were much deeper issues than that. like when one of our b team guys got himself a plane ticket out of theater when he thought his wife was cheating on him. she was, but that was desertion, yet the guy got a promotion and a full time agr job after the deployment. it took me years to connect his last name, root, with kbr who had major contracts and lots of money. i don't know that he was part of that family, but it fits. what did you think it meant? i'm curious now.
  6. this is the heart of the matter. the military is a subset of society. not a truly representative one, but one nonetheless. i was eo nco in my unit, and we only had one person of color, and about a few dozen latino folks, no women. there were still cases of discrimination, and cases where things were overlooked, depending on who was being looked at. not just the tabbed guys, but almost like high school in the nature of what happened. i fell on the wrong side of one of the guys, but since he died of stage 4 lung cancer and i got to piss on his grave, i's say i won that one, even though i didn't get to retire from the military, and seeing the direction it went, am pretty glad i didn't. anyone with a military background who says there is only one color, green, should be looked at very closely. i too used to have an idealistic sense of what the military was all about, then i kept getting slapped in the face with reality.
  7. it's sad to see one so totally under the control of propaganda. if it were me, i would be ashamed of myself for being led so easily, but then again, i was taught to think for myself.
  8. you need a third parachute attached to legally do that. not a good idea though, you can lose your freebag and pilot chute.
  9. it could be, you have a valid point. it is also more resilient at that age also, so i think they may cancel out. not sure about that age, but i know that trauma from 1-3 year olds is easier to recover from in some cases. i wish i didn't know that. when it comes down to it, it's not that bad when compared to some things, but still not an easy thing to go through. they'll be all right, or as all right as they would have been anyway, at least we didn't have any school shootings i heard of last year.
  10. that ain't even close. click the link open in another tab, the click play and listen while you surf. has some shit in there about black psyops being used in this country.
  11. mine chose to stay out and actually is graduating a semester ahead of time. not like school teaches them much except socialization anyway. they'll get that back pretty quickly when they get back to normal, school or no school.
  12. i've been on this forum for quite some time, about 2001, and have blocked exactly one person. not bad for 20 years. i don't care if you listen or read it or not, but you may learn something, like how it is legal now for the government to be part of this propaganda effort on it's own citizens. it will also teach you how to recognize when you are being manipulated, which is the most important part. you do you though. not my rock.
  13. i wouldn't say massive, as that is the age where they are most resilient. it's big for sure, but not like going through a war and then whisked off to a refugee camp or being forced to carry a rifle and actually fight, as some have been.
  14. you should listen to this then, transcript if you like reading. you'll find out just how well they manipulate you. it's easy as hell to do and almost as easy to spot, when you know what to look for. the guy jon actually works for me sometimes. you're being played.
  15. or is the drop in testing leading to the drop in covid cases? you can't measure what you're not looking for. if the folks at pfizer are right and the first vaccine is 93% effective after two weeks, then following their recommendation that we drop the dose to one means that we almost have enough vaccines for all of us, and it should be about to start getting better.
  16. every situation is complicated. the fixes are time tested though. this cold snap did not sneak up on us, i heard about it on tv a few days before it happened. enough time to get prepared at least. the power on our farm has been out for over a week now, and isn't likely to come on til at least tomorrow, if then. we haven't had to use the water we gathered, yet, but aren't dumping any of it just in case. i would have thought that with the prevalence of hurricanes in tx, that most would be prepared to live with no electricity for a week. i guess some things that seem like they would be common sense aren't that common. the worst thing about the whole mess is the amount of mental gymnastics being used to deflect the responsibility from the power companies which failed to properly prepare for cold weather. they were warned, several times, and in 2011 had a long report with some good recommendations, i read it. one thing that jumped out at me was when they put in the part about how things like this would become more common. go figure, they were warned, they chose to ignore the warning, then got bit in the arse. well, at least they'll probably get a rate hike so they won't lose any profit when they attempt to fix things. too bad they won't prepare for the next time. good luck.
  17. they had one in '83, another in '89, another in 2011 and they even had a report with advice to prepare for more after that one which says that they need to be prepared for these events that will increase in the future. guess what? the report was right. so, while i am not normally one to question sources of information, how in the hell did you come up with the 1940 bullshit?
  18. i was wondering how they do it, looks like a script. pretty good one too. some sort of machine learning algorithm. i'd like to see where they scrape their content from.
  19. just wondering, what's the pay like for the hours you put in? i figure i could come up with shit a lot better than you and get folks to actually believe it. you're a joke, not even trying now.
  20. here here next. where is yours?
  21. it says it's a -m but it's packed right now and i don't want to open it up just to look at the label. i thought i took a picture of it for record but can't find it. i was told it was all zp, and it sure feels and looks the same. has to have been a reserve as i had to send it off to have the bridle attachment put on and they replaced the slider with the hole in it at the same time. both of the 218's i have had bridle attachments already on them and they were also reserves, or so i was told, only one had the data card with it and that one is the reserve i use now, just in case the other wasn't really a reserve.
  22. my turn. no you wouldn't because that's not your purpose. trying to stir things up is what you're purpose is, and you found a gold mine here. you'll get argued with for years and not one time will you ever have a chance at doing anything except amusing us. no, you don't. you literally have like 1 scientist denying it for every 99 who don't, and looking at their paychecks explains it. who signs yours, comrade?
  23. i'm currently using a zp reserve as a main. raven 181. of course i am not a rigger, so it didn't occur to me that it may not be the best choice for a reserve, but that one is a raven 2 so i'm good. just for the info, why is it not more common? i like to know about things. since it is off topic, if you could show me to some reading material on it, i would appreciate it. if the reason is in the 2d edition of the parachute manual, let me know and i will find it in my copy.
  24. if that were true, i wouldn't have spotted this one so quickly. took about two posts for me to pick it up. i'm not that good either. or maybe i am...
