that's just what they show on tv. there are much worse things going around on some of the fringe sites. i hesitate to call them 'fringe' any more because they are becoming mainstream.

cop tackles the girl, subdues her, and gets a cut on his arm. the ambulance that was dispatched since every call involving a fight could be life threatening, has a crew that attends to the cop, the girl, and the victim if she got stabbed or cut before the cop tackled the attacker. unless extremely unlucky or a very savage attack, everyone lives.

you or i might say misogynistic, but it has a few syllables and a lot of letters. a bit hard for some folks to understand. i like using the big words to confuse them and put the explanation in parentheses to piss them off. haven't had one yet pick up on it. you should try it, it's a fun way to amuse yourself in a discussion as asinine as this.

anyone who is smart enough to look through history with an unbiased eye will tell you that women are superior to men in most areas. there were two reasons for all the centuries of oppression and control: fear and inadequacy. women can create life. men make a mess out of almost everything. of course there are exceptions, since we all know there is nothing that is black and white.

some folks like to argue, i do. some like to get the last word in, not me. some just like to troll, some call it playing devil's advocate like i used to, i still troll sometimes. sometimes it's propaganda, either paid or unwitting participants. hard to say really.

rules for thee and all that bullshit...

same here. if she was too close. shooting is the only option.

that was also back in '98 with a different attitude and i was a student.

wrong. it is the perfect situation for a taser, depending on some variables. 1. she was the one who called the cops, but was merely still fighting when they arrived. 2. she had lunged with a knife, so had she been about 5 or 10 feet or more from the target a taser would have most likely stopped her with no harm to the target. that is from a purely armchair perspective, and i am not disagreeing that he was justified in lethal force. i disagree that the taser would not be good. in my opinion, the best reform, or at least the first, for cops should be deescalation coupled with non-lethal techniques to subdue suspects. mandatory aikido also. if most of these cops were more confident in their self defense ability, they wouldn't be so scared. if they were confident in their ability to deescalate a situation, they wouldn't be so scared. this won't take care of everything, but it will go a long way.

the thing folks are missing on fatal dosage is tolerance. a heavy user can take a dose that would kill up to 5 or 6 non-users, depending on the substance. i know a guy that drinks a case of beer a day, every day, and doesn't start 'til 5. that would kill me the first night, maybe. that much may be a lethal dose, but like pointed out in this thread somewhere, they use up to 20 for anesthesia, so it's variable.

i had a discussion about this over a beer or two a long time ago and i recall one thing that stuck with me. the guy said something about protecting the important parts and mentioned that in hockey, they had cups for almost 100 years before they had helmets. that struck me as odd, until he finished. he said "it works that way landing a parachute. you just fucked up the stand up landing, what makes you think you're gonna get the next part right? fuck up the slide and there goes your spine, fuck up a plf and you femur or break an ankle. i know which one i'd prefer." i don't think i agree on which part to protect more in hockey, but i don't skate well enough for it to ever be an issue. again, not that you're wrong, and things do evolve all the time. sliding can be safer under some circumstances, but dangerous under others. when newer jumpers see nothing but sliding, they can set themselves up for injuries that a proper plf would have prevented. i don't want anyone to get hurt or killed and would like to figure out a way to stop landing injuries and fatalities. i just think we need to encourage the newer jumpers to plf all the time, until getting into situations where sliding is better. but a plf or a slide won't save you from a low hook turn.

and let's hope they all use some restraint in the case of the columbus cop.

and "boobies". i like boobies.

i am pretty sure i would plf every time, even the one you described, but have no experience there so cannot say for sure. sounds reasonable to me, as long as it is done correctly, and in the right location, it can be safe. the thing is, sliding in can cause issues when the terrain is uneven, and if you get in the habit of doing it, it may cause an injury when you really need to do a plf and forget. muscle memory is hard to override, like when you're off the dz after a mal left you on your reserve. this is often overlooked when discussing the merits of plf vs. sliding. i know i haven't given it much thought until now.

no it doesn't, you need to adjust your views on who is to blame. with the country as divided as it is, we need to do a lot less blaming and a lot more problem solving. society is not to blame, a few racist bastards are to blame. when i say few, i don't mean it literally, i just worked all day yesterday, until 4 am this morning and have two more jobs today. i don't want to face the fact that almost half the country is racist as hell. have a great day.

how far along with the civil right movement had it not been for the federal support? how about safety, like using seatbelts? i could go on, but that makes the point. i am all about states rights, i even used that line once to justify the civil war, back when i was a passive racist. like putting toothpaste back in the tube, it can be done, but is messy as hell and takes a long time, never getting fully back to what it was to start with. in this case, it is the only way to save the voting rights of millions of americans.

maybe YOU did nothing, but I did all sorts of things. i went to protests, started writing articles, started publicly calling out racists on the internet (and sometimes in real life, although living in a state full of them, i have to be more careful), actively support my friends of color, and if i had found a few folks to help one time, would have pulled down a statue of stonewall jackson at the capitol. i had the truck and a few chains, but that thing is heavy. anyone with those stupid blue line flags owns it, along with all of those with the "few bad apples" bullshit. the bad apples were left with the bunch too long and are almost all spoiled now. i, and most folks i know and care about, own none of it. you may, and good on you to admit it. now do something about it.

it may, but the threat to injuring the spine is real. i have had broken ankles three times and plf every single landing that isn't stood up with no issues. i had an issue once when i did a plf off of a fence when i almost made it to the dz and the one that had been broken twice swelled up a little. i use a brace on that one now, just in case. if the ankle is fully healed, it is fully healed. i have heard that breaks are stronger than original bone, but am not a healthcare professional. a good plf when done correctly is always the right choice over sliding in a landing, unless you are a ti. i have heard folks say plf's are not designed for high speed canopies and the higher horizontal speed, but this is simply not true. folks who say that have never landed a round canopy in winds higher than 10 knots. i did one in 22 knot winds once, and had it not been for a good plf, i would have been hurt for sure. i also did a plf at a dz i was new to when i took a downwind landing rather than chance hitting powerlines. it was a plowed field that was dry as a bone. again, sliding would have injured me badly, but i got a scrape on one arm. i have also seen a guy do a plf from ~50 feet when his air got stolen by another jumper. he walked away with bruises on his feet.

Aon2: Brilliant Pebbles (Audible Altimeter) Feedback
sfzombie13 replied to Rio Santonil's topic in Gear and Rigging
i bought one and was looking at making my own altimeter with a pi zero. while talking to one of the support guys that make it I mentioned it came on when i plugged the charger in. he said i had one of the bad ones that hasn't came back yet, then sent me another one from the factory. turns out they had a resistor in the wrong place on some of them that made it do that. they even let me keep the old one. best support ever in my opinion. it also works really well, but so did the one they told me was bad. the only downside is needing an android or computer to change any settings. that isn't much of a hassle at all to me, since i have my phone with me every day anyway. if you have an iphone, it doesn't have the app, so that is another downside. i would say it is the best purchase i have made in a while. -
you should do a plf rather than slide. if you choose to slide, sew a patch of cordura over it. put a cool picture or a saying on it. market them and sell the idea.

it's called life, and so far, nobody has gotten out alive. life is the only sexual disease that is 100% fatal. yeah, actually i missed the "not" in there...

i thought the discussion was another gop sex scandal, not a political hate campaign. maybe i missed something.
