New Skydiver's Question...About Reserve Chute
nubain1 replied to Kramer's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
37:1 Blew a cell on the 37th jump.right side of canopy would collapse when doing a controlability check. It was there and it was square and flying straight, but there was no way I could land it so Chopped it. -
Every Dr. i sgoing to do the same procedure a different way.I've seen some e.r. docs use concious sedation for a dislocation and seen one who only used nitros on a dislocation. It's all up to the doc on what and how it gets done.Give me Dilaudid of Fentynal.I don't want to be able to feel a thing.Or if I have to feel it then give me Versed so I won't remember it.

Don't let Hooknswoop see these or he'll be trying to fly it. The main he has right now isn't much bigger than that. Now you know I'm just kiddin' with you right Hook? All love to ya bro for that sweet reserve opening you packed for me.

. but it is believed the Cypres was not reset (turned off, then back on) prior to the first morning jump. A Cypres will automatically turn itself off after 14 hours. This unit may have reached the timeout point in the middle of the second day. This problem is NOT limited to the Tandem Cypres. Every Cypres is programmed to shut off after 14 hours. Skydivers should be alert to this problem and should reset their Cypres each morning if it is still on from the previous day. This problem is most likely to be encountered by a regular “fun jumper” who arrives at the DZ on Friday evening and makes a quick jump or two, and then jumps the same rig the next day. The time-out issue is most common in the summertime when the days are longest. I had that happen to me before.I went to the dz and during gear check before bording my cypress was on,Then later on in the day on the next jump it was found to be turned off during another gear check.Turned out that I had turned it on the night before and it was still on when I got to the dz.Thankfully it was found during a gear check before getting back on the plane.

I must be a geek then.I need 13 more jumps for my B.ANd butt loads of RW training.

Well hell.I thought I was going to get to enjoy a little time off but it seems that I'm now starting a new job as a medic at the county jail tommorow. And I turned in a app for city fire yesterday.Testing won't be until next month But i think I can hack it until then at the jail. The city is losing several positions due to retirement and are shorthanded as it is.The lady at personnel said there will be several hires during the 1st round of testing. So I've got to get off my lazy ass and start getting ready for the physical agility test.I spent 8yrs with the FD before moving to CO so hopefully I won't have a problem getting on here.

ANd I forgot another thing.Kinda positive.Kinda not.The partner I had lost her job also.But..........This morning before we left I was getting my stuff together and turn around and she hands me her phone numbers and says to call her after she moves into her new place today.Nice bod.AS the great philosopher Beavis once said "BOING".But because we worked together I could'nt make any moves on her.It just would'nt have been right to do.But now that we no longer work there and she gives me her numbers out of the blue....As Wayne said to Garth when they were playing street hockey....."GAME ON!"

And I'm doing it for the people who still work there who are to new to realize the are gettting screwed.

in the remote event that they listened to you and they Gov. fix things, what benefit will you be getting? you are NOT there anymore, so, why fight a war in which you are not part of? The one benefit I would get would be a fat check from back pay.I've seen city and county gov'ts have to pay major dough for illegal pay issues. And everybody that works there now and had worked there in the past 5 yrs would get back pay also.I had a friend of mine back east that got a check for about 10k that he was owed from city fire.So I know it works. It takes time to get through the red tape but the employees get thier hard earned money in the end.

I'm actually relieved that I no longer work there. The stress was getting to me enough that I could'nt sleep the night before I had to go in. And I no longer have to get up at 0430 in the morn to make it by 0630.That's a big plus in itself. The job I'lkl be starting at the jail will be 3nights aweek.Sucks that those nights are fri, sat, and sun.But oh well. It's about 10mins form the house. No longer will I have a 118 mile drive one way.But it will give me the days during the weekend off to spend at the dz.Another plus and I can get a parttime job during the week.I feel like a huge weight has been lifted.

Sorry to hear it. But I didn't know you had to study for a drug test! Don't you know it's always better to study for a test? I just hope I passed.I know a few things have changed since I would study for them back in HIGH school and college.I asked the woman that gave me the test if they could detect adrenalin overdoses but she did'nt see the humor in it.

I had thought about letting it go and not saying anything. But,I've been through alot of this before. The pay issue is that they are paying based on a 56hr work week which is illegal because the company does not fall under FLSA regs.So people are being cheated out of deserved pay.The OSHA violations are pretty big ones that could cost someone their life. They don't offer Hepititis B vaccinations to the employees as req. by law. They do not have a needless system for drug adminstration to prvent needle sticks which can lead to contracting Hep B.I'm not worried about HIV from needle sticks because the virus is so weak outside the body.Hep B is the one everybody worries about. The O2 cylinders are not secured so in the event of a wreck they become projectiles.Their exposure plan is practically non existant. The stations are death traps. One of the stations is in a basement with one exit, and bars on the windows. No smoke detectors and no light exit signs. And don't even ask about fire extingushers.I said someting to admin about all these probs when I started there but it was all ignored. So it's time to go higher and let others know.
-
Th9ink I'm going to respond to this by getting shitfaced tonight and then in the morning calling the labor board for illegal pay structure and the call OSHA and report several major violations being made by the company and the calling the fire inspector and haveing them check out the illegal conditions of the stations that they have.

As of 0630hrs this morning I joined the rank of the unemployed.I found out about the company I work for letting people go when I got to work yesterday. The company is shutting down 3 stations and letting people go.It's kinda funny when the owner of the company says things are going great at the last meeting. ANd now this. The comapny lost the 2 most experianced paramedics it had.One guy has been in the field for 25 years and I have been in the field for 10.Plus I'm on the verge of having a MBA w/ emphasis in EMS admin.ANd what really sucks about the whole situation is,is that my main is @ PD right now and I'm still waiting for a reserve repack.I have a couple of friends that have mains the ywill let me borrow. But until I get a repack I can't even enjoy my period of unemployment by jumping. What is the world coming to? I'm waiting for the results of my drug test to come back for a job at the county jail.Hope I pass.I did'nt study before I took it.ANd I put in a app with the city fire dept. But they won't be hiring until Sept..So hopefully I can get a repack and enjoy my time off.

You suck.I was supposed to be there this week but I got a letter from the irs telling me that instead of getting a refund I now owe.I had almost bought the tix to fly out but something made me hold back and then I get the letter.I was really really hoping to hit Raeford this summer.Maybe next time.

Have you ever been injured while skydiving?
nubain1 replied to Clownburner's topic in Safety and Training
So far a burn mark on my leg from legstraps. And right now cracked ribs from a hard opening on my last jump.Grounded for a while because it hurts to move, but can't wait to heal up so I can get back in the air. It's hard to resist when you go to the DZ and sit there all day watcing everybody else have fun. -
Funny.......I talked to her a little bit ago. She tried to turn things around on me. Like it was my fault I was upset because I hadn't seen her in 5 days and I was going nuts. Most women would kill for that I think. Am I wrong? I feel your pain.I just wnet through the same thing about a month ago.For 3 wks straight every time I called and asked if she wanted to do something she was always busy or going to parties. So enough was enough.

Iron Maiden,World Slavery Tour,1984.I was 12 years old at the time. And it's been all down hill since then.

Don't know what they have to say about it yet,My canopy is still on the way there.I'll post what they have to say about it when I hear from them.
-
Having problems downloading it right now so I can't see what the gorund looks like.I just remember you talking about it at the DZ one day.
-
I'm being very positive about the incident except for the fact that I don't have a main right now.My confidence in myself is growing. Now that I know I won't panic if I have to cut away I can feel more relaxed about jumping.WHen the ribs heal up and I get a main.Watch out cause I 'm back in the skies again.
-
Hey wingy,I'm still saying it hurt like a bitch,It still kills me to take a deep breath. You ripped that main at STR did'nt you?Seems like I remember you talking about it right after I statred going there.

Here's what I posted sunday night and why I need a new canopy. "Had my 1st reserve ride today.ANd I hurt like hell. Exited about 11.5k.Exit was nice and stable.Alt check then started my B lic maneuvers.Left fig 8,backloop,right fig 8 back loop. All was well.Nice flat and stable,no drifts in either direction.4.5k wave and pull. Then, WHAM!!!!!!!! hard opening, had the breath knocked out of me and was seeing stars. On top of tha there was line twists out the ass.KIcked out the twists and looked up.One entire cell on the bottom skin was gone.Oh shit.was still flying straight and smooth.Tried a control check to see if I could possibly land it.Nope, not happeing.everytime I pulled on the right toggle the rigth side would collapse.Alt says I'm at 2500,so oh shit here we go.peel,pull,peel,pull.Next ting I know, one of the sweetest openings I had ever had.Look up and see this beautiful blue canopy over my head.Look around and redo control check.Beautiful.No traffic around so I start looking for my canopy.Find it in a gentle spiral, and follow it for as long as I could.NIce beautiful standing landing.Look around and don't see my main. But everybody else did so by the time I walk back to the hanger my main and freebag are there waiting for me.Look at my main and the rip is along the stitching from nose to tail.Have a riger look at it and he says it a manufacture defect. The canopy only has 22 jumps on it and I bought it new.The lines are still a bright white. So anyway bag it up to be sent to PD and see what they say about it. So the wait begins. Now I'm at home with bruises on my ribs and what looks like a huge hickey in my neck from the risers. Don't ever let anybody say that a Spectre won't spank you cause it can. It's a 230sf loaded @ 0.8:1 and my reserve is a PD 218 loaded @ 0.9:1. I owe Hooknswoop whatever he wants. He packed my reserve in the last repack.SO, I bow humbly at his feet.Glad to walk away from this.Up until today I had been scared that I would panic but I was really calm through out the whole thing.I have Jumptandem to thank for my AFF training. And for him telling me to constantly practice my emergency procedures.I always gop through them on the ride up and even when I'm @work or home I'm going over what to do.ANd I'm happy to say that I did the right thing today. And it's sunday si I can't buy beer today. "

To keep thinking about a cutaway?I keep replaying mine over and over in my head.Until yesterday I was scared about the possibility of having to do it and now that I have my first cutaway all I want to do is get another canopy and get back up in the air.Even with my ribs hurting as bad as they do.I want to freaking jump.I keep thinking about looking up and seeing the rips in my canopy and thinking "oh shit! I don't want to do this."And then thinking about what it was like to pull both handles and then seeing that pretty blue canopy over my head. So,is it common to keep thinking about it or what?
