  1. I actually have 3 regular customers who have paracommander set-ups with the good old chest reserve, so I stay current and make alittle $$$ from my chest rating. I even had a save just a couple months ago. Someone actually used the shot and half capewells and cut away from a spinning PC and aired out the old LOPO belly reserve. It's actually all caught on video, it's pretty cool to watch. Now i do get much more use out of the seat rating from pilot rigs. If your thinking of a second rating thats the one thats will make you the most money other than the back rating obviously.
  2. Sweet....Thanks !!!!! Someone get this man a beer!!!
  3. good question...I have no clue how to do it.
  4. Maybe we should all start chanting..."Poker, Poker,Poker"
  5. I was just looking for the tourney. also and didn't see it.....I was wondering the same thing. What am I gonna do all night without it. The regular tourneys suck, the skydiver ones are usually a challenge with some damn good players.
  6. I know Gary Peek built one not too long ago to do some testing with cypres'. It was completely home built and worked great. He posts here once in a while under Peek. You can catch him more often in the Instructor or S&TA forums though.
  7. My guess is you thru the belt or the belt was slipping. If you thru the belt and I pretty sure it is a serpentine belt , you should have lost your power steering too....so if your steering got heavier then that was the problem........If not have the garage check it that installed it, if the altenator is defective it shouldn't cost you anything. The shop should replace it and they will send the old one to the manufacturer for credit and also re-coop labor charges.
  8. I'm not sure how that will work for the Tandem I/E(it would really make things a pain!) but if it's done correctly I think thats not out of line for the AFF I/E....I personally would have no issues at all doing the jumps with a AFF course director if I wanted to be a course director...I just wonder what they will do with people like me that are AFF I/E's right now. The only thing i'm not a course director for is the AFF course but I have been an evaluator at a few courses. USPA seems to want to re-vamp things and change things all the time...JCC/ICC to the BIC, to coach courses to the AIC and every change they make there end up guys like me that just seem to get grand fathered into the next higher level. Now I've always gone the extra step and done the work to get my proper ratings...Probly one of the only AFF-I's( and BIC director) that when the coach course came out went and sat thru a course. I figured if I'm going to be teaching the course I should damn well actually have the rating. But there are alot of people who don't have the same mind set I do and when they get grand fathered into a higher level they take it and run(unfortunately sometimes act like they have earned it) as was the case with ALOT of JM's that got grand fathered into I's without every attending an I course.......I guess only time will tell, but I truely wish USPA would take their time, do research and look well into future possibilities before making changes and then having to tweak them or make more changes.
  9. I totally agree about the flow chart...Make a very easy to read step by step method without the grey areas...... And to be a coach is B-license and at least 100 jumps....still you don't have to be very experienced to get the rating but I'm guessing they wanted to keep the jump numbers in line with the old Jumpmaster rating, that too was 100 jumps(for SL and IAD at least)
  10. I took one of the first AIC's back when Rob Laidlaw was the only course director. If USPA is going to turn the AIC into an I/E course thats probly good news and any future directors. I thought the AIC was much easier than the I/E exams, a couple of those like the sporting codes and record attempts were a complete bitch.
  11. It's an old term ...Jumpmaster Certification Course and Intructor Certification Course Back in the day before coaches..You had to be a jumpmaster for a year before becoming and Instructor
  12. Well my understanding of the I/E rols as it stands right now is something like a USPA S&TA at large..... I dug out my old I/E stuff and found a proficiency cardI scanned it and attached it....You can see most of the requirements are pretty basic stuff.
  13. I've heard the same rumors....I'd like to know the facts also. I just wonder how it will all play out if things change. I'm an SL, Tandem, AFF I/E and a CCD, SL CD and Tandem CD(Vector/Sigma I/E) and I've been thru and passed the AIC. I know right now there is no way to become a USPA I/E because they have removed it, but if they reinstate it what are they going to do with someone like me? I know the old standards to be an I/E were tough to meet and the tests were a real pain to pass but they were based only on general knowledge and not flying skills. Right now I know there are I/E's out there that have no right to be any type of course director. I have almost 1000 AFF jumps and have been an evaluator at a few courses and I know I'm not ready to be an AFF course director. I know USPA has made the AFF course easier, hopefully they are smart enough to not dumb down the course director appointment. But it's the USPA and the loudest and most influential voice always seems to win.
  14. If you can wash it...use Cheer Detergent....it really does work.... I had one that was "hot " for acid and washed it just for experience and to see if it worked... It actually did and to top it all off it passed the PIA strength test(all gores)...Now this was not a canopy that was in service and was just used as an experiment......My feeling is , if one is that old that it actually was in the acid mess AD, then it needs to be replaced...It's old and everyone knows that most pilots aren't good about keeping their rigs current. My good pilot(non-skydivers) customers bring me their rigs once a year...I have others that I see every two or three years. There is no way would I want to wash a canopy and send it out knowing it's going to be at least a year or two before I get to see it and test it again.............. DO NOT REPLY WITH YOU ARGUEMENTS,INSIGHTS OR ANY OTHER REASON YOU CAN THINK OF TO ARGUE....THIS IS ONLY MY OPINION AND I WILL NOT DEBATE YOU SO SAVE YOUR TIME (damn shame I have to put this disclaimer on)
  15. PD is definitely the best reserve out there in my opinion...Just talk to your rigger about getting the proper size so the pack volume is compatible for your container. I've had several customers show up with a new main or reserve and look amazed when I inform them that it is too big or small for their container. Definitely look at pack volumes if considering the Optimum, great reserve and packs up incredibly small.
  16. I've watched Mythbusters since their first episode and 90% of the reason I keep watching is for Kari....I mean who could forget her in that tight body suit in their pilot episode where they made a mold of her butt
  17. The skyhook can only be on Vector 3's and Javelin Odyssey....I know older vector 3 can be retrofitted with a skyhook but I'm not sure if the same can be done to the Odyssey....you can't just add one to any rig because it involves adding a reserve flap and other alterations....it's no small task to outfit a rig with a skyhook. http://www.unitedparachutetechnologies.com Thats UPT's(relative workshops) website.
  18. I have unfortunately seen the aftermath of a no pull fatality....The body is identifiable....they are incredibly busted up but generally intact. Now that was on soft ground, A high speed impact on pavement would most likely be completely different.
  19. In Missouri, you always have a Duty to Act and if you do not and are proved to be on the scene you can be held liable in court...oh yeah and forget about keeping your license...it's gone!!!
  20. All I can say is stock up on Red Bull.....you'll need it to stay awake thru pharmacology......and good luck!
  21. probly the only person who would have one is Dave DeWolf....Look him up, He's pretty easy to find.
  22. Thats why I said 911Cell Center Dispatcher...what you experienced is very common...there are designated dispatch centers that receive the cell phone 911 calls and they will then connect you with the local 911 dispatcher. Most likely if you call 911 from a cell phone you will NOT get the dispatch center for your local emergency services, they will have to transfer your call. For example...in the St.Louis City and County there are 9 dispatch centers, only 1 of them receives cell phone 911 calls. so unless you live in west St.Louis County, your call will have to be transferred to your appropriate dispatch center.
  23. Usually cell phone 911 calls will be answered by the closest 911 cell center, they will then get your location and transfer your call to the appropriate dispatch center. I know in Missouri thats how it works.....and to answer Jayes question about multiple kids, in all the different places I've worked for in EMS, when we were faced with that situation we could always get the local police to respond and they would either transport the children to the hospital or they would remain on the scene with them until a designated care giver arrived on the scene. Thats not an uncommon occurrence and in sure your local EMS service has a protocol in place for it.
  24. I let the customer decide.....if they have no preference then I close it per the manual.
