  1. Has anyone else taken a good look at Novembers Parachutist cover and wonder what happened shortly after that photo was taken??
  2. your gonna get 100 different replys with 100 different opinions and light configurations. I have alittle over 20 night jumps and this is what I've done for lighting....1 chem light on my wrist near my altimeter, one attached in the front either on my helmet or chest strap and 1 on the back of my leg and lastly I have a Radio Shack joggers strobe light that I have attached to my hip/leg strap junction facing behind me that I turn on under canopy.
  3. I'm gonna think of it like you hear on on th WSOP or WPT....."It's not the money, I just want the title and braclet.".......So I have the title, but no braclet....I guess with the $10, I can afford one of those Live Strong braclets and a sharpie so I can write DZ.Com poker champ on it.
  4. It was a low turn out tonight.....But on the high note, I won the inaugual game!!!
  5. Easy answer is to update your drouges to the Sigma drouges which do not have the inner tublar, they have a spectra kill line and even if that breaks you still get main deployment(probly alittle harder opening than you want but it will still function) and also have the flex pin instead of the older small metal pin that we are used to seeing on sport rigs.
  6. It came down to the pee factor for me....The match had to end one way or the other. I just hate the thought of sitting out a hand( I know thats when I'll get pocket A's or K's).....Next week I'm gonna wear Depends
  7. I own 2...a Singer 20U33 and a 20U73...I absolutely love them....Great all around machine. They are great for canopy repair, replacing velcro, and any general repair or sewing projsect. Of course thats just my opinion and I'm sure you will hear from both sides.
  8. Well Tom well definitly do the right thing. If he repairs it and sends it back, then you know you have an airworthy rig. If you could, please call Tom and see if he will take pictures and e-mail them to you so you can post them. I have a good idea of the damage but nothing beats pics.
  9. I was in the sport almost 10 years before someone I considered a friend was killed. I witnessed a couple fatalities prior to that but they were people that I did not know.
  10. Cool....thanks again, I'm registered and doing the bad beat ward off dance.....if it doesn't work this week, I'm kicking that Indian medicine man's ass that gave it to me
  11. 3 line overs I couldn't clear, 2 tension knots, 1 hung slider and 1 improperly rigged main......We had a packer for 2 seasons that just sucked. I wanted him fired after the 1st season but the DZO was too nice of a guy. There were slot more line overs and tension knots that I was able to clear. Our tandem staff got very good at clearing malfunctions and even better at emergency procedures.
  12. I completely agree....since the Collins lanyard, there really is no reason not to have the RSL.... I don't understand the horseshoe point at all....If you cut away without releasing the drouge you still have to dump the reserve past the trailing crap, so what difference does it make if the RSL does it for you...and even on the strong with a horseshoe and the instructor screwed up by not releasing the drouge first, then the cut away handle acts as a drouge release so all the crap leaves by the time a properly rigged RSL opens the reserve.......Since the Collins lanyard has been out there I only know of Tandem fatalities where the RSL would have saved the life, instead they are now statistics in the incident reports......And to the point of line twists ona reserve...Good god, if you can't deal with line twists then quit doing tandems.....Personally I've got 7 tandem chops in 1300+ tandems and only had line twists once and all had an RSL.... I'd be interested to know, of all who posted that do not like RSL's...what tandem system do you use.....My guess is Strong...Personally I'm Vector/Sigma and all have the Collins Lanyard.
  13. Yes...this was a fix that was used when some container manufacturers had slippage issues with some on the hardware they used....but before you impliment that fix, I'd examine why he has the slippage issues...Improperly fitted harness...worn leg straps, ect. That fix you mentioned should only be used tocorrect true hardware slippage issues, and even at that I'm more likely to recommend hardware replacement to my customers. It's better to cure the problem rather than put a bandaid on it.
  14. WooHoo....registered....Thanks for setting it up!!
  15. Is there no poker game tonight???
  16. over 1400 tandems....I use the same flow for all....seat belt off, lower laterals hooked, Handles check, 6000 feet...review jump with student, handles check....Hook up just prior to jump run...Top right, top left...tighten laterals, handles check....Show student safety check...top right hooked, top left hooked....right lateral hooked and tightened, left lateral hooked and tightened, 6 handles on the system, drouge in place, primary RC in place, secondary RC in place, all 3 emergency handles in place( yes Vector system and the RSL ball is considered an emergency handle).....WE ARE READY TO SKYDIVE!!....that system and speech has worked for over 1400 students.
  17. That combo of canopies would be better suited for an G3-M5...I have a rigging customer who has those exact canopies in his M5 and they are alittle tight but it's not bad at all to pack.
  18. I have a customer who recently broke a steering line just below the cascade on his Jalbert Parafoil 282. Making a line isn't a big deal at all, done it more times than I care to remember but never on a Parafoil. Usually if it's an A,B,C,or D line I just match it up with the current length so it keeps the canopy in it's current line trim. With brake lines I usually recommend replace both sides. The customer has agreed to do this, but now here's where I need alittle help..... I've never worked on a Parafoil so I have no info on line lengths or trims. Nor do I even have a clue what size and type of line their brake lines are made from...... I've e-mailed North American Aero( the manufacturer) several times but I get no reply.......Can anyone help me out??? If I can just get help with what type of lines the brake lines are constructed with I can make my way thru it. Before anyone asks...I have not seen the canopy yet and the first time I'm going to see the canopy is going to be at the DZ on the day of the repair.
  19. Does anyone know any contact info on who if anyone is currently operating the Reflex container manufacturer.....What I have is a customer who wants a vigil AAD. He has a Reflex which is Cypres ready but I know Fliteline was pretty much defunct by the time Vigil can out. I've looked everywhere I can think of and can not find any info if the Vigil is approved for use in a Reflex........Yes I know it will fit and work, but if it's not approved(in writing) for the container then I'm not doing it. .......If anyone has any contact info for the Reflex manufacturer or REAL proof (your opinion or thoughts do not count as real proof) that the vigil is approved for the Reflex , I'd very much appreciate it.
  20. I use a few special ones in the field....my biggest one is a save ass excuse to give to the cops.....patient was DWIGT. (dead when I got there) or is things are going down hill and you don't want to alarm the patient or family...Tell your partner the patient staus is PUHA...Pronounced PooHa(Pick Up and Haul Ass).....just a couple special acronyms I use.
  21. Have you tried Zyrtec-D or Claritin-D....as a last resort, see a doc and you can get something like Astelin or another stronger allergy med.
  22. Congrats....Cardiology was a bitch. I went thru medic school 18 years ago and still have nightmares about Second degree block type 1 and 2....Google a guy called Bob Page. He's the director of St.John's Springfeild EMS( in Missouri) He has alot of great info on EKG interp. He also offer an Excellent class called Multi-Lead Medic. If you ever get the oppertunity I'd highly recommend it.....As far as EKG books, just get a new ACLS manual or AMLS manual...they have some pretty good basic rythem interp. info and examples.
