  2. I'm tossing in my 2 cents here. I've got the bungee ball on my main rig and some old "slocks" on my backup rig. The slocks on my older Javelin needs to be replaced, but new they work good enough when new, but IMO not as good as the Skytie or bungee ball. you could always sew on a velcro on your jumpsuit as I've seen some do, but I'm more worried about having a cutaway main strapped to my jumpsuit then my reserve flap. In addition, by keeping the slider attached to the rig and not the jumpsuit, you'll be able to take the rig off and walk away without doing anything to the slider. =) I've always been worried about the possible cutaway from a main with my slider attached to my bungee ball config. But last summer while I was participating in a freestyle/beerchase canopy competition, I cutaway my main on the ground. I felt that the slider got stuck, but with only two jerks, the ball was off, slider free and I went for the beer. To me that proved that the bungee won't hold a slider from a canopy that's cut away. I don't think that the reserve flap or slider will take any damage if you need to cutaway with the slider attached to the reserve flap. Also the chances that you need to cut away AFTER stowing your slider behind you neck are slim(but they are there and should be considered) since most cutaways happen during deployment/right after deployment. I've not seen or heard of any mals that happened due to a bungee ball config, but wouldn't surprise me that it might have occurred.
  3. dang! yeah..it's a canon all right. Dont know why I wrote Sony =( I'll take a look at it when I get the vapor and see if I'm able to reduce snag hazards. Thanks for the advice DSE! =) "Once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward, for there you have been and there you long to return." - Da Vinci www.lilchief.no
  4. Thank for the reply DSE! =) I'll take it into consideration. I don't know if it does much difference but I found out which camera it is. It's a Sony XH A1. 5. A friend of mine has access to a camera quite similar to a Sony HDR-FX1000 camera. I told him that it would be been cool to use skydiving in one of his school projects and let me jump with the camera. I'm in the procsess of ordering a Vapor Wes Pro from skysystems and Id guess the helmet should fit such a camera. but what about positioning, vibrations or snag hazard? It doesn't feel heavier then my Sony PC 350 and 350D together(which is impressive to me). But may it shift weight balance a bit due to its size?. Any extra concerns regarding pull? and best of all...what should I think of when jumping such a big camera? ;) Thanks for any help =) "Once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward, for there you have been and there you long to return." - Da Vinci www.lilchief.no
  6. have you tried Brian Germain's samurai or Lotus? I jump a sam(haven't tried the lotus yet) now and only when I stuff the nose all the way back into the packjob I get some 6-700f openings onheading all the time. If I leave the nose out and don't do anything with it, I get quicker openings that are all over the place. 7. ...what about 4ft of snow like here in Norway? that's a sweet cushion if you get low...AND it's really freezing =) "Once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward, for there you have been and there you long to return." - Da Vinci www.lilchief.no
  8. could you define "experienced"? "Once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward, for there you have been and there you long to return." - Da Vinci www.lilchief.no
  9. in case you should need to change your legstraps or MLW for some reason, the rings will make the job cheaper since they don't have to change the entire harness or larger parts of the harness. How likely that is to happen can be debated, but if it happens it MIGHT pay off. I've had hip and chest rings in my Icon, and it's a better option since it will also fit better to the next owner since it more adaptable. It also felt somewhat more comfy then. If this is a rig you'll have for 2-300 jumps and then sell it, Id recommend you to get them since the resale value will be better IMO. Now I've got a Vector3M with only hiprings and I don't feel the big difference for me. But I believe that has to do with the harness design on the vector. 12. I'd like to read that article! Here in Norway there are laws to protect the person on the picture and the one taking it. No-one can use a picture unless the photographer and the person in it approves it. If only one approves the publication, it won't hit the media/web(in theory). I'm currently in a beef with a small local newspaper that asked for 3 of my photo's and I sendt them fullsize with the costs of using them. That's two months ago, and I've still haven't heard anything from them. Since they don't have my written permission to use them, which they did, I may press charges on them....which I've done. I won't send anything tot hte media in full size until a price is set. 13. I like the name: "Bronze Fixed Bail Snap Shackle", it's just a funny name. UPT's shackles are made in Sweeden, my neighboring country.
  14. Since there is snow, just wear regular clothes for skiing =) You'll need it when you flip over haha. If possible, you could use the less baggier set for less drag and easy access to the cutaway handle in case you get stuck some how. I've got a pair of motor cross pants that I might use, but that depends on temperature and if I cant find other clothes under. But they're more for swooping in the summer. 17. I've had a Hurricane and liked the outside audible since they offered easy access to them. But there's not often you change your settings, and keeping them in the inside protects them from scratches and potentiall riser slaps (though it's rare). My biggest issue was with my Solo. Since I had to tie it with supertack, I couldn't take it from my FF helmet and over to my camera helmet. The same issue would have occurred with my Optima. I prefer internal pockets to protect my audibles and to be able to take them out and put them in other helmet. 18. Looks "interesting"... ;) was the opening normal or hard? Is it a sigma harness? Did the passenger feel it, and if so, how did he/she react to it? 19. Um...how is the ram air reserve packed and by who? If not a parachute rigger...then by the pilot it self? And then..how much time is needed for a PG pilot to learn a proper pack job on a canopy designed to safe one self? I like the idea, but I'm concerned for the safety of it all since it might be packed by someone who's never packed a skydiving canopy before. 20. you could always take your type 17 risers over to your master rigger and have him/her stitch then to become low drag. Cheaper it is, and still quite cool. Useful? neeh =P "Once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward, for there you have been and there you long to return." - Da Vinci www.lilchief.no
  21. Could it be possible to do that? The reason is that it would be easier to look through rigging related info amidst all the gear specific questions, that unfortunately are coming up again and again since there's always new people to the sport. I find it hard to find rigging info faster since there are a lot of "newbies" threads pushing down rigging threads. Riggingthreads don't have that many posts since theyære more spesific. But the classic "newbie" threads are subject for opinions in a greater manner then rigging. Therefore they are more active and filling up the list. The idea of keeping them together is good since non riggers may catch up on more equipment, and therefore could learn more about their own gear. But how it's used is something else. 22. all speeds are in mph jump nr 691 @ 37f - TAS: 69,42 SAS: 72,39 jump nr 672 @51f - TAS: 64,61 SAS: 67,53 jump nr 652 @363f - TAS: 69,32 SAS: 68,79 jump nr 651 @66f - TAS: 68,41 SAS: 71,12 jump nr 587 @77,56f - TAS: 69,00 SAS: 73,65 As you may see, these are getting close, but there are many jumps in between where I don't get those speeds. But it only takes one 270 that I nail perfect on a 120 and probably exceed activation speed. And then I'm toast. That spooks me! 23. oh..sorry guys. I let out the question it self...should I or shouldn't I get a speed cypres. since I'm so close to activation speed. I measure using my altitrack and I read off both Skydiver and True airspeed and look at the lowest speed. 24. I've recorded on several jumps, vertical speeds close to the activations speed on a cypres2 under canopy while doing a 270. I'm currently under a Samurai 136 at 1,65WL, and will be downsizeing to a Samurai 120 with at WL at 1.85 during this winter. Close to the activation speed means 10mph down to 4mph below activation speed. Since I'm already that close under a 136, how will it be under a 120? I believe that I need to be over the activation speed for more then a blink of an eye. But how long can I stay there before my cypres 2 fires? And should I, for safety reason, change to a Speed when downsizeing? I've sendt an email regarding this issue to AIRTECH with no response. My 270 is started at 530f and I'm practicing for CP nationals.
