  1. I started off packing a new PIlot 210 in a 190- Icon at Eloy in mid May. THAT was hard! =D BUt hey..I never have issues packing ANY canopy now, and that's quite cool!
  2. you can get a almost new main canopy for the same price as a new cypres, so why bother? you probably won't use it after all, right? Unless you actually get to use it one day....then the price doesn't matter anymore, huh? $2 is pricy, but what if the day you use one is, before you get your own cypres? 3. I was going trough my routine while at the same time pulling down my rear riser trying to stop the turn. it just did make sense to me that it spun since it looked fine. I could'n see the tensionknot untill i looked at my D-SLR. Got two nice photos of it ;) Samurai 136, ~1,6WL "Once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward, for there you have been and there you long to return." - Da Vinci www.lilchief.no
  4. 12 january 2008; spinning main - tension knot, C-line wrapped around steeringlines. you can watch it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PzJETzzj1pA Worked out nicely. There was only one thing different from my first mal(PCIT), was that I really had to focus on pulling the reserve ripcord to ensure that my reserve was actually being pulled. The reason was that I got tossed around pretty much and never gave myself the time to look up. 6. During the Norwegian CP nationals a foreign participant entered. his "technique" was go low and dig out(toggles at torso height). During round 4 his left steering line broke during the leveling off phase of the swoop. His was thrown into the water but was fine. We inspected his steering line and it broke of at about 1 inch above where the excess steering line stops above the cat eye. The lines was dirty and seemed to be vectran, but I'm not sure. It looked as a freak accident until he said that he had 750 jumps on the steering lines!! the fact that 5 jumps previous he did the same kind of landings but over hard soil/tarmac, gives me the creeps. If that had happened, we would have a serious injury upon us. His neglect for his own equipment and his way of hooking makes me almost wish that he got hurt enough to either stop jumping or at least change his attitude towards his way of flying... I hope there aren't many like this guy out there... 8. sweet! I just started looking for a 10-22 lens for my 350D.
  9. in this picture you can actually see how it looks when it's to close and how the focus changes over distance =) "Once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward, for there you have been and there you long to return." - Da Vinci www.lilchief.no
  10. Yes! I finally managed to upload photos. I took these today. Iso 200 Shutter: 640/s Blender/f-stop: 10 Focal length: 18mm Focus distance: 3m I've made a mark in the lens where the focus is at 3m(10f). Especially on the last one, the auto focus would have surrendered or get pissed hehe =D I lost the tape holding the focus and focal length, so after the cloud it all got out of focus =( Thanks for the help! =) "Once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward, for there you have been and there you long to return." - Da Vinci www.lilchief.no

  12. Unfortunately, in my mind, that is to often true. To many "experienced" skydivers have stopped listening to newcomers. it's a fact that many newcomers are potentially dangerous for them selves and everyone around them. But still..cutting someone off by simply saying what "everyone" else is saying, is not a good approach. You're not talking with the person, you're taking to him/her. The result is then that the person still doesn't know the answer, just an attitude, and still equally potentially dangerous. I really like this thread, because no one here bit him/her off. Aggidave had a well written post taking the little time to actually "listen" and provide the person with a good solid answer.
  13. I came out to late on Saturday to get enough sunlight, and Sunday was overclouded, but yesterday I went on top of the Tower at the airport I work at and took some photos. of the rail with the planes in the background. However, I can't get the uploaded here. I've scaled them to match the requirements, but it doesn't work. It seemed as I managed to "nail it" regarding large DOF, but the DOF preview I can't use. It's probably just me not being able to see the differences. But these settings are good for sunny days. ow about when there are 50-60% cloud cover with wither towering cumulus and separate layers of clouds? It's all about the amount of light, right? What about sport-mode with all the focus points active? does that sound like a good plan? I got an "advice" from someone at my DZ. I've never used any of the fully automatic or Tv/Av settings. But if I'm not mistaken, they are unpredictable and may cause the camera to freeze, get the photo out of focus or take less pictures, e.g missing exit, smiles and deployment. 14. holy craaaaaaap...! that was a lot more complicated then I thought! I feel like I have to start all over again haha. Lots of good stuff here, and I'll do some experiments tomorrow. I'm amazed.... Thanks mike =) "Once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward, for there you have been and there you long to return." - Da Vinci www.lilchief.no
  15. but if I were to use manual focus... I'd have to use this calculator to find out what length and set my camera against a known distance on the ground to get what I want, right? what do you mean by boken? I try to capture the entire tandem and with a shutterspeed that doesn't show any falpping of the suit. I like to have everything "frozen". thanks for the website =) "Once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward, for there you have been and there you long to return." - Da Vinci www.lilchief.no
  16. I'm posting to get feedback on my choice of settings and maybe some answers regarding use of auto/manual focus. I got my EOS350D i January and i've plowed through the manual. I've been used to SLR since Jr.high when I took photo classes. So I started with manual settings right away. I've spent the last half of the winter getting to know my 350D, but there's something that I miss. On my old Konica XT, the lenses have these interval markers on the lens that shows you how long your focus length will be. That don't exits on my lens(standard 18-55mm), and I can't find any tables showing me. Does anyone posses a table, or clue on how far the focus length is with blender 4.0 and 4.5? Second questions: What do you think about these settings: ISO: 100 focal length: 24-26mm shutterspeed: 1/1000 on the ground when canopies land 1/1250 in freefall burstmode white balance "daylight" AI focus Metering mode: evaluating C.Fn: Long exp. noise reduction: on AF assist beam emits E-TTL II - Evaluative shutter curtain sync: 1st those are the ones I think are the relevant ones I've had some photos being out of focus even though the previous pic is in focus. I use only the center focus point. tips - pointer - advice are welcome

  18. be careful to tuck the secondary risercovers fully in so they don't settle with a bulge or misplaced fold. V3's 2nd risercovers are sensitive to it during the first 50-ish jumps/2 months. Nice rig man, very nice! enjoy it =) "Once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward, for there you have been and there you long to return." - Da Vinci www.lilchief.no
  19. tandemvideo: do you look at you altimiter?? FF competition: do you look at your altimiter?? Tracking is set higher as a "heads up" since I may be way out, away from a good LZ. Since I see the ground all the time i'm more aware then when doing anything else. I'm more concerned about others slamming into me from above then to check my altimiter. I check my altimiter 2-3 times during funjumps.... Yes I trust BOTH dytters and I've got no problems with not looking at my altimeter. I'd rather use them as heads up then "i'm to low". For you they are the devices that tell you you've screwed up. Dytters are to your assistance, not just to tell you that you're low. You'll see that you're to low or feel it when your AAD pops or you may see people shout at you my 2 cents... 21. Not necessarily A reserve may be flown as a main, but you'll need to sew on an attachment point and reenforcement for the bag. But after the mod, or 20 jumps, I believe you may not use it as a reserve any more. Some of the riggers here on the forum may clarify that for you. 22. I'd buy if I had the cash, just for preserving it for it's history. =) Nice vid! But I couldn't stop thinking how much it would have sucked to have a mal during that demo "Once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward, for there you have been and there you long to return." - Da Vinci www.lilchief.no

  24. This has bothered me since I got into skydiving, and got my first US calendar. Why is it that US calendars have Sunday as the first day and not Monday?
