Sony Handycam - 2010 models released ....
lilchief replied to Stueyyy's topic in Photography and Video
I got interested in the CX550V... I'm about to upgrade from my PC350 this spring and have been considering the CX100(105 here in europe) all winter. I'm a quality nerd and both the CX350 and 550V seems to deliver. Looking forward to hear if someone gets them in their hands and how they perform. Especially with the OIS turned off and how the loose gyro affect the image. If not, I'll buy one of them and use my 30 days satisfaction guarantee if the image is shaking. Hi guys! Maybe I'm first out with this here, but I couldn't find anything after searching. I just went out and took some test videos for posting them on youtube/Facebook. I used 25fps 1080p videomode. I threw it in Permiere Elements 4.0 and the software started freezing and jamming on me. I looked up the Adobe help section to see if I could get a new codec for Elements. It is recorded in MOV format, and Adobe had no solution other then contacting the 3rd party company(Apple?) as far as I understand. But the support page said a lot about backup codecs and backup files before innstalling new codecs. The reason was that it might even just simply freeze if you added the wrong codec. I also understood that it might corrupt your files, therefore the file backup. I got confused after reading it... I trusted my gut feeling and pushes through anyway, and the output seems perfect IMO. I didn't edit anything, just added the files and exported it in AVI format. The MPEG(low quality for emails etc) export is giving me a hard time cause the software freezes only =/ It seems that it might just be my computer that is struggling to survive because of the large video files/amount of data. I'm using a ASUS G2S with dual 2,4ghz T7700 intel processors, 4gb RAM Geforce 7XXX something. It's a full blood gaming Dragtop and has handled everything so far. Any inputs on codec issues? Any tips on how to make the editing smoother without recording in lower quality? Any inputs on why the program freezes? The only message i get is that the program stopped working It might also have something to do with Vista.... =P "Once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward, for there you have been and there you long to return." - Da Vinci www.lilchief.no

I had a talk with a Aerodyne rep this summer about the new ZPX material, and other low bulk fabrics. Now that we get smaller pack volume on reserves and mains, the rigs are simply getting to big for some sizes. I started thinking on how that problem could be addressed. IMO, the solution would be to keep the same aspect ratio on the rig, to allow the hackey to be at the same place where your arm may reach it. But then we could instead make it slim(height wise) so that it would not be any loose fit and tension would remain constant. If we were to design something that would be narrower sideways and having it at approx the same height, we might end up struggling to reach the PC. The next step in canopy design as I can see it, would be what Deadlaus is doing now, and reducing the height on the canopy. Other then that, we'll probably need nano-tech materials that will reveal exiting new features. I've just started on my degree in product development, and it's super exiting to find new solutions. =) "Once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward, for there you have been and there you long to return." - Da Vinci www.lilchief.no

I did 2-3 tests on my Samurai 120 @1.9 this summer. On toggles it would stall on one side first, drop a little then surge to that side, but then I'd also stop it. I can't say for sure how it is on toggles. BUT, on rears..damn! I'm not kidding when I say that I had to pull the rear risers all the way down to the 3-rings to have it in a full stall... and the stall characteristics, well..it went straight down with just a little wobbling to the sides. It didn't even rock and flap so violently as any other 9 cell I've flown has(not that it is so many though). I was amazed how it worked. It was super controllable. I've could have used it to sink straight down if I wanted. Airlocks rules! I've used my Asus G2S 17"for gaming photo and DV editing, and it has worked..."well". The only issue is Windows Vista.. It has dual core, 2.4 and 4gb RAM(only 3 in use due to 32-bit OS). I've brought it to different DZ's as a portable editing station mostly for tandemvids, and it has performed well. I've used Premier elemetns 4.0, Photoshop CS4 and now Lightroom 3 Beta. It need at least a re-innstalling of Vista..crap.. We had an incident this summer where a skydiver tried a Velo 84. It may be debated whether it was mostly the hard opening, or wear. If you don't find my post relevant to this thread, let me know by PM, and I'll delete it.

It's a good post you have there and I agree with you. When I'm asked the same, I recommend the jumper to get a rig that their canopy is in the upper edge. I've done the same, but I wanted a big reserve, so I've ended up with the 343. That's what I like with the M series, the reserve and main is independently designed. I now hold a smart 150 and a Velo 103 in it. When I get the money for it, I'll replace the smart 150 for a OP 176. I don't think I'll drop under a 103 at all, or at least not in the next 2000 jumps or so. I'm 230lb out the door. But with a Velo 103 and a OP 176 I believe that I've got the best from both sides. Not for skydiving, but still pretty cool =)

the 1D weights 1,14kg just for the body + 0.4kg for the lens and it's a hassle to mount something that big on your head. 5D is IMO the only option if you want a canon full frame on your head. XXXD/Rebel series, XXD series and now the 7D is using a x1.6 crop format sensor which is usable with all lenses from Canon. But the 7D offers the best picture quality. plus the wheight isn't all that bad if your neck is healthy. =) "Once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward, for there you have been and there you long to return." - Da Vinci www.lilchief.no -

Canon released the 1D Mark IV today. lot's of nice features. http://www.canon-europe.com/For_Home/Product_Finder/Cameras/Digital_SLR/EOS-1D_Mark_IV/index.asp The 7D is also pretty nice and could be used if you're used to used bodies like 30D/40D/50D since it has better image quality at higher ISO. I've got a Vapor PRO, and my tip to you is to mount stills and vid as far back as possible. How far back? Mount the widest lenses you've got for both stills and vid, and see how far back you can place them without getting any helmet in the frame, Mark the place and voila! Use a quick mount solution for the video cam so it won't stick right on the carbon plate. The little elevation will also help you place the camera further back. Off course...don't mount it so far back that both sticks out in the back It's already been mentioned why it's a good idea to have vid/stills mounted backwards. Another aspect about that during my deployment the helmet with stills and vid actually wants to go backwards, not front and stretching the neck. I hardly need to use any force to put it backwards.

Make it sharper and steeper. Then start lowering your altitude by small increments. Don't go big and say: "..naaah another 250f will do just fine!!!" Slow is still pretty fast ;) "Once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward, for there you have been and there you long to return." - Da Vinci www.lilchief.no

Awww...WHAT a great thread. It has taken me 5 days to finish reading it, but it was sure worth it!!! Nice to read it while my broken neck heals.

If you don't have hip and chest rings, I'd recommend you to have them installed. It's a "cheap" investment for these kind of jobs in the future(e.g. damaged MLW due to wear or one tarmac landing or if you ever need to get cut out of your harness after an injury) or in the long run. It'll also fit better for the next owner when you're selling it(= better price for the rig) "Once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward, for there you have been and there you long to return." - Da Vinci www.lilchief.no

Double fronts, slowly release right front riser to start a left turn, lean over and rotate hips to the left. If I need faster rotation, i curl my torso to the left and put my left left leg backwards and push it further up. ...complicated! *puh* "Once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward, for there you have been and there you long to return." - Da Vinci www.lilchief.no
