So legality is your moral compass? If something is deemed "the law" then it is always right? The entire point of this discussion is the taking of a human life. If they locked him in a room somewhere we wouldn't even be having this debate. I advocated life in prison in lieu of death. How did you ever come ot the conclusion above? At least in my world people continue to live, their lives aren't ended based on the judgment of someone else.

The state is assuming the responsibility of killing them. The state has to exhert an effort to commit this act. They knowingly and willingly, plan for and then cary out the termination of the life of a human being. I'll ask you one more time, since you still haven't answered. Why should "the state" have the right to kill someone just because they warned them they would be killed? Why can't I kill you since you've posted after I warned you that I would kill you if you continued to post? What is the difference? Please answer that.

Ahhh....gotcha.

I don't buy that either. Plenty of nations have dealt with guerilla and foreign wars that didn't and don't have death penalties. So? No death penalty for any crime? rl Have you not read any of my posts? No one should EVER be authorized to kill someone else in a premeditated manner, no matter what. EVER. Yes, we need to protect society from dangerous individuals, life in prison does that. That's why I use the term premeditated....if you are defending your own life from an imminent threat, then it is ok. But when someone is already locked away in a cell, no danger to others, what possible reason is there to kill them? It's NOT anymore of a deterrent than life in prison and it's never reversible if a mistake is made.

Nice...I remember they were on SNL years ago on St. Pats day....drunk as shit and falling off the stage...but still awesome. That's the first time I ever heard of them.

Sounds like you made up your mind...I'll give you the same advice my lawyer gave me after my last experience with a stripper. Make sure you're the first one to file the restraining order.

The Time to Act Is Now- A great read about Global warming
ReBirth replied to Darius11's topic in Speakers Corner
Open the phone book and look up "Environmental Scientist" Or start here. No, I've never personally seen a list. But I know people in the field. I'm basing that statement on what they say, what I've read and heard and seen over my lifetime. How about you give me a list of people that dispute it...that are experts in that field. The only people I see claiming it's not clear, are politicians or their supporters, not scientists. In the middle. No, it's not proven fact, it is theory. But it is theory, that virtually all scientists in that field agree with. The people arguing against do so with a lack of expertise and experience on the subject. Sure, there's a slim possibility that all the experts are wrong. You want to bet on it? I don't. -
I'll fix it for both of us.... Sounds like an authoritarian wet dream. As you know, that could be left (ussr) or right (nazis). Either way, doesn't add much fuel to the argument that it's ok for them to kill people because they broke a rule.

It's clear to virtually every scientific expert in the world. Lay people may argue about it, but that doesn't mean it's not clear. It means they are mistaken. -
Sounds like a right wing wet dream.

When is the last time you voted to put someone to death?
-
DZO's don't expend effort to cause the death of others. They may be enablers, but they aren't the cause. The state is the DECISION MAKER on this ONE ISSUE. Shall he be put to death. Yes he shall. That is the domain of the state and the state alone in this circumstance. Before you jump to such a conclusion, you may well consider the lack of elephants in Singapore. Unless you believe that no countries without the death penalty have low drug use.

I just see a lot of people justifying their choice by what they do use it for 1% of the time. WHILE trying to claim they can't do anything to be more conservative of resources. Personally, I walk to work, ride my motorcycle anywhere further, and if I really need a car, I rent something like a focus....if I really need a truck, I rent one of them. Sure, occasionally I'll rent a Viper while I'm in Vegas and burn gallons a minute tearing through the desert for fun. Not using the most fuel efficient vehicle for commuting is kind of silly though, IMO. Why waste all that gas? You're right, I guess I am judging. But I don't think anyone should make you change your vehicle, other than yourself. Just trying to provoke thoughts about alternatives.

Ladies, here's an easy way to see if he is worth your while

Huh....what do you know. You hit the RB Trifecta!!!! Got all your conditions covered and don't even need to buy you dinner. Now that's a match!!! -
On my way to party with a bunch of nuts in a parking lot under a tent with some kegs, and a huge grill...oh yeah...and with 7 inches of snow on the way. Can anyone say....Snowball Bowl Part Deux? It's make or break night.

Yes...that's much better. Still not perfect though. That puts blame on his stupidity or ignorance as opposed to claiming he willing wants to die. But it still misses the point that ultimately, his death is the responsibility of the state. Since they could very easily choose to not kill him, the ultimate cause of his death, is them.
-
Have you ever done a cost comparison analysis to see how much you would save if you had a car with great fuel economy for commuting and rented a truck when you needed it? Maybe carpool or use public transit to offset your increased consumption over a more reasonable commuter vehicle? I'm not judging and saying you should be doing anything differently than you are now. But don't pretend you are doing only what is practical and aren't also considering your personal convenience.

Kind of like skydiving.

Could you forgive somebody who murders your loved one?
ReBirth replied to Bigwind's topic in Speakers Corner
Yet you think it's barbaric of us to want to arm and protect ourselves from someone killing us. It's better for you it the state has the power of life and death over the people? I knew it was a mistake letting you guys unify -
Men, here's an easy way to see if she's worth your while

Damn...thought I finally had my angle. -
That's true...but the point I'm addressing is the culpability that you all are attributing to the one being executed. You are defending the harshness of the sentence with the rationale that he knew that was the penalty. If for some reason, he wasn't aware of the penalty, is it still ok to kill him?
-
Why...people here have been rationlizing that it is ok to execute someone for drug smuggling because he was aware of the consequences if he were caught. Why does it matter who is meteing out the consequences? Dead is dead, right? If I tell you the consequences I will mete out, how are you less to blame for your own death?

We could call it....... "A Boogie Video"

...against their will. Your analogy is way off base. How about you answer the question that Rhonda ignored. If I tell you to stop posting or I'll kill you, but you keep posting....are you therefore committing suicide?
