Please understand, no one in Skydiving and NO DZ wants to be unsafe. Remember, Tandem Students don't go one to make more jumps if they are hurt. Everyone STRIVES for the safest environment possible - Some DZ's have Newer Gear, Some have more experienced Instructors, Some have nicer aircraft. I scared myself... the speed I had coming out of that turn was too much for me, and the current storm was on the horizon so, there were NO groundwinds. I panic'd a little...just stabbed. That how people get hurt. Funny, I was sooo concentrating on the skydive, and had a touch of gearfear - but didn't stress over the landing at all- that's what gets you in trouble in our sport, the point where you body hits the ground. My home DZ was small, we had two guys who were regular freeflyers there, the started about 6 months before me. They mostly jumped together doing 2 ways and working out there skills. Every now and then, they would invite people, have visitors, have coaches come in, but for the most part, they stayed to themselves (until the beer light came on then they were just another skydiver). Every Blue Moon, they would join us on a big way or lead us in a tracking dive. But we respected them for their dedication to their discipline. The old DZ is closed, but one is now a Tandem Instructor, and one is on a well known freefly team. I admire these guys for doing what they love and perfecting their skills, even in a challenging environment with few 'old timers' to teach them. They never got discouraged. Fly Your Slot !

Sneaked out to the DZ yesterday and got one in before the weather moved in. Ahhhhhh - I didn't even mind that I had to sit in the "cold spot" on the otter. Everyone was joking about "forgetting how to fly" , nice 4pnt 9way- but I think I forgot how to land. I made an unusually low turn (for me) thought, to myself "self, your fixing to break a bone, so get ready" stabbed as hard as I could and popped up about 4 feet to a stand up landing. What a nice move, although totally by accident. Airrrr - Fly Your Slot !

Speaking of Jumping : I enjoy watching people's first jumps. Like take a person all the way from the trip to the DZ for the first time, to their ground training, gear, emergency procedures - jump - landing, debrief by the JM. I think AFF would be more interesting than Tandem too. Especially for a Non Skydiver to watch. You have a chance to really capture the anticipation and training, plus show skydiving as the MENTAL SPORT it truely is. Or...Follow a Jumper through getting his Rating. Show the intense time, money and training required to be a Jumpmaster. -Sounds like a fun project. Fly Your Slot !

Last year 10 friends from the DZ rented and RV and drove from Houston to Iowa for the Couch Freaks boogie. Alot of friends had scattered all over the country and that seemed like a good point to meet. It was a blast. During the day, it was Jump and Pack and Jump and pack. Every Night was a massive party. They had an old Milk Truck keeping the beer cold with taps on the outside. The showers had a "spinning" men and womens sign. Manifest ran smooth, weather was great. Polyester Party, camp sights with great themes and of course, couches everywhere. I didn't make the trip this year, but my slot on the RV filled fast. Everyone had a great time. And you will carry in them the bodies of American troops and civilians. This is when you will leave." Civilians? "We do not differentiate between those dressed in military uniforms and civilians; they are all targets in this fatwa." Bin Laden argued that American outrage at attacks on American civilians constitutes a great double standard. Bin Laden believes that what we consider to be terrorism is just the amount of violence required to get the attention of the American people. His aim is to get Americans to consider whether continued support of Israel is worth the bloodshed he promises. "So we tell the Americans as people," bin Laden said softly, "and we tell the mothers of soldiers and American mothers in general that if they value their lives and the lives of their children, to find a nationalistic government that will look after their interests and not the interests of the Jews. The continuation of tyranny will bring the fight to America, as Ramzi Yousef and others did. This is my message to the American people: to look for a serious government that looks out for their interests and does not attack others, their lands, or their honor. And my word to American journalists is not to ask why we did that but ask what their government has done that forced us to defend ourselves."
