I know what you said. "Other countries do and manage it" does not explain how you intend to implement and sustain our own. "Other people do it" is not a justification for moving that direction. Further, you can't compare the current bill to any other country's program. I doubt you can even give me something from the bill that would be benneficial to the masses. If you want to cut the military budget in half, that's your opinion. If you want to cut the budget in half and sitll have the strongest military in the world then you are dilusional. Military budget reduction is simple. Just cut the funding. Your pipe dream of cutting the budget in half and continuing to be the world's strongest military is nothing short of insanity. The current inventory of aircraft is already 30+ years old and literally falling out of the sky. It's just another wacked out liberal talking point to simply cut the military budget and magically fund everything. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.

- Other countries do and manage it I'm not sure if you've ever put together a bill, but "other people do it" isn't an effective way to implement law. It answers exactly zero questions. We can't afford one so we can afford another? Again, you answer zero questions. Standard. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.

Yes... free, quality, available healthcare with absolutely no disqualifiers would be great. The problem is that you have absolutely no way to fund, provide, or sustain a system anywhere close to that. Edit: Why did you immediately start a fight about HC in a thread congratulating the President on an arms reduction deal? -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.

So do the one's waiting for their free Obama money that came from debts he forgave. There are dumbasses on both sides. The fact you think the right is losing it because of some crazies actually puts you in one of those categories on the other side. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.

With enough technology, is socialism actually viable?

They're still controlled by one or more pilots on the ground plus which goes along with his point. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life. -
Don't put burglars in jail (unless they hurt someone)
FallingOsh replied to JohnRich's topic in Speakers Corner
quote]What a fine world we live in where the burglars are protected from violence. Show me where I advocated that. All I'm saying is that deterence is a joke, incapacitation works for the time being. I never said you advocated that. Deterrence is not a joke. That's why cop cars are painted the way they are. It's why nuclear war never happened. Maybe, but that's not what you said. "but by today's standards and laws, you cannot kill or harm someone in most states to defend property." Yep. Hopefully you don't live in a state that won't let you cause harm to defend your own property. I guess you're supposed to just ask them to leave. So what do you advocate; locking them up forever? Since they are "wired" to commit burglary and deterrence doesn't work, I guess that would be the only answer... "In order to encourage it a person must "be wired" in such a way to embrace the idea of entering another person's house for the purpose of taking their stuff." "to deter them you have to change their mind, not merely their address." "too much jail time as with drug crimes does nothing to help the matter either." "you cannot kill or harm someone in most states to defend property." So a person can be wired to enter a house, but we could change a wired person's mind by not putting them in jail. If we do put them in jail, which apparently can't change their mind about future offenses, it can't be too long cause that's bad. Deterrence doesn't work, but jail time won't work either, and we can't shoot them when they break in... What exactly is your stance on this again? -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life. -
Don't put burglars in jail (unless they hurt someone)
FallingOsh replied to JohnRich's topic in Speakers Corner
I wasn't expecting such a cogent (look it up) response to the reality of deterrence theory. Too bad you weren't born 200 years ago, but by today's standards and laws, you cannot kill or harm someone in most states to defend property. Now if you try to stop them from taking it and they assault you, then you can defend yourself, but shooting someone in teh back, other than hillbilly states, constitutes assault/murder, etc. What a fine world we live in where the burglars are protected from violence. I'm not in the NRA or a crazy gun nut, but if someone breaks into my house, for whatever reason, there will be no hesitation to shoot. If you want to sit there and let some thug take all your stuff (and hope that's all he's there for) then be my guest. If a criminal has the choice between a house he knows shoots back or a house where the pussy screams and runs for the closet, I'm fairly certain which house he'll return to (and he will be returning since jail time might hurt his feelings so we're not going to do that). -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life. -
It honestly makes me physically sick to my stomach. A bunch of self-serving criminals swindling a blind vote for legislation on topics of which they know absolutely nothing about. They have zero interest in what the public wants and only vote to secure their own personal agendas. I can't even begin to imagine why anyone would support a group of people or a history changing decision like this. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.

So it's admittedly impossible to score. You're just spewing personal opinion based on the unscorable. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.

This might help: http://www.us.depend.com/male/ But save some for November... Basically, yea. I'm shitting myself with glee. I know it might be years before we see all of the assets of this bill/law, but it's the first real token of having my party win the election 3 times in a row. The economic recovery is great, but this is diff cause it's an issue rather than a state of being as the economy is. You are so separated from reality, it's sad. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.

Freedom OF religion means freedom FROM religion

That's why I always chuckle when people completely discount SANTA CLAUS because they "only believe what experimental evidence shows." Well... 100 years from now everything you think is true will likely have changed. Congratulations on taking the more realistic approach. Freedom OF religion means freedom FROM religion
FallingOsh replied to funjumper101's topic in Speakers Corner
Right... cause we're the first generation in history to finally figure it out. Maybe. Maybe not. I'm sure the scientist 100 years ago figured that none of their "truths" would ever change a bit. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life. -
Freedom OF religion means freedom FROM religion
FallingOsh replied to funjumper101's topic in Speakers Corner
Actually, it would. Miles per second is your frame of reference. Speed of light is independent of frame of reference; both in Einstein's use of the phrase and your use to mean "units of measure." Facts don't change. "Truth" about facts change. When some people thought the world was flat was the truth, the fact the world was actually round didn't change. Their agreement over the "truth" of the facts had to change, but the facts themselves didn't change at all. That's the same point I was making. You just switched the words truth and fact. If the facts are always right then we can't call anything out of a science book fact. We can call them "what we think are thruths," but not facts since the term "fact" indicates ultimate understanding. My point, which you seem to agree with, is that science is not fact. It is our understanding of the facts. Which, in your definition, is just a temporary truth. That's why I always chuckle when people completely discount religion because they "only believe what experimental evidence shows." Well... 100 years from now everything you think is true will likely have changed. Congratulations on taking the more realistic approach. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life. -
Freedom OF religion means freedom FROM religion
FallingOsh replied to funjumper101's topic in Speakers Corner
Actually, it would. Miles per second is your frame of reference. True, but there are different ways of looking at the same fact. Is water H2O or is it 9 protons and 9 neutrons? Is it neutrons and protons or quarks? I understand what you're saying. Just because there's nobody around to hear it, doesn't mean the falling tree is silent. I'm just making the point that so-called facts are always changing. Maybe we're just using the term "fact" incorrectly. "Facts," as we use the term on a daily basis, are all relative. It's whatever the lastest science experiment said was true. 120 years ago Thompson explained the atom as a raisin bun. 70 years ago it was fact that black people were intellectually inferior to white people. 10 years ago it was fact that gravity is just a force between two objects. I hope you get my point. I kind of think about it the other way around. Facts are what we label our understanding of the world. The truth may be, and often is, something entirely different. I would argue that depends on who you're talking to. Yes, it is H2O... but is that all there is? If I asked you if gravity was the force between two masses, would you agree? Would a string theorist agree on the same level? It's a fact based on what we know right now. The truth maybe different. Why? Because humans have been so great at explaining everthing so far? -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life. -
Joe the Plumber is pissed off at McCain & Palin
FallingOsh replied to SpeedRacer's topic in Speakers Corner
Nope. Never have. Maybe. Not sure what that has to do with you thinking you work harder than anyone. Just cause you're full of shit doesn't mean you work harder. Congrats on working hard. I don't mean to shock you with eye opening news, but you're not the only one who works hard. So you, being covered in shit, are the hardest working person you know. Me, a guy on the internet you've never met, must be a white collar cubicle dweller that doesn't work enough to meet your stadards? You're really digging yourself a hole here. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life. -
Yes. Just like raising religion hatin' kids. My daughter is now 19 and I have never discussed religion with her at all, in fact I was very careful to avoid all conversations about it when she was around. Her mom is very religious and attends church a couple of times a week but never forces it on my daughter, who chooses not to attend. I believe how you raised your daughter was wrong. In my belief system, it borders on child abuse. It's insane for parents to be allowed to ignore potentially life changing subjects. How's that sit with ya? -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.

How about now? Anyone have a change of heart? TEHRAN, Iran – Iran began enriching uranium to a higher level on Tuesday, an acceleration of its nuclear program that was followed by a U.S. threat of a "significant regime of sanctions." Speaking in Washington, President Barack Obama said the process of developing an additional set of sanctions on Iran was moving along quickly, but he gave no specific timeline. Iran, he said, was still pursuing a nuclear program that would lead to nuclear weapons. Iran's announcement Tuesday that it has begun enriching uranium to a higher level raised fears that the process could eventually be used to give the Islamic republic nuclear weapons. Iran denies that its program is geared toward acquiring a nuclear weapon. France and the U.S. have said that Iran's action left no choice but to push harder for a fourth set of U.N. Security Council sanctions to punish it. Russia, which has close ties to Iran and has opposed new sanctions, appeared to edge closer to Washington's position, saying the new enrichment plans show the suspicions about Iran's intentions are well-founded. Edited to remove smart ass comment regarding the thread title. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.

An unlicensed plumber and registered Republican; his life was already fucked up long before teh 2008 election. Yeah... a man working hard to provide a living for his family and not wanting a politician to take it from him... No surprise you think he was on the wrong track. If he just sat on his ass collecting unemployment then you'd support him and vote to increase his gov'ment paycheck. I can bet I work harder than you, so I assume you are not comparing the two of us. I haven't collected unemp for > a decade, again, not knowing what you're talking about is your trademark. You wanna bet that you work harder than me.... and then you brag about how long it's been since you collected unemployment? What a joke. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life. -
And then the third group, the ones who are undecided, that can't get a straight answer either way. Then one side admits to fabricating data. Makes it easy to sway one way... -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.

Freedom comes from Knowledge... Not necessarily. China is a pretty knowledgeable country. As are Iran and Saudi. Those countries don't exactly meet our definition of free. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life. -
