Well said. Read it? Hell no we didn't read it. Why would we do something like read a potentially nation changing bill? I wonder what kind of spin people will put on all the ignored promises. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.

New unemployment claims lowest since January

What happens when you tax then out of business? Do they get to come work in the government manufacturing sites? Yeah, fuck the deficit. It's working pretty well so far this year. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life. -

The government opening manufacturing facilities? I didn't know that the government was in the manufacturing business. They're not, that's why they would open them if unemployment became too harsh. Of course you would rather the country relive the GD in the name of some antequated ideal where the gov stays out of saving the country and 10's of millions......ever wonder why your side is sitting? Why manufacture something that cannot be sold? If the only reason you want gov manufacturing to open is to provide paychecks to the lower classes then why not just send them checks? Why disguise it as something useful? -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life. -
The poll is more rhetorical, addess the issue. Convince me that teh Iranians didn't care of the swwetheart deal, but were afraid of Reagan as all small countries were/are, but then we have been atatcked regardless of who is in office. Well the rhetorical and completely bias poll is still leaning towards 'yes.' Fail. So then, yes, people are foolish? 21 votes, sounds scientific to me It's funny that the majority of people prefer to call themselves fools rather than agree with you. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.

How can you support a trillion dollar stimulus spending spree and at the same time admit the economy isn't really under the government's control? -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.

75% of Young Americans Unfit for Military Duty

Ok. I guess everyone is entitled to their opinion. I'll stick with my original point that it's not the government's responsibility to raise your kids. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life. -

I knew when I read that article this morning that someone on here would try and claim over half a million jobs being lost as a victory. I bet those half a million people would disagree with your leg humping. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life. -
She dropped out on her own. Does that mean she's fucking herself in the ass? -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.

Someone who doesn't support gay marriage, is anti-abortion, and doesn't like the stimulus is not an extermist. If they are, then people who believe the exact opposite could also be considered extremists... and I'm sure you wouldn't dare call yourself a liberal extremist would you? -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.

Why does the win matter if she was just going to vote democratic anyway? Would you vote for a democrat that was anti-gay rights, anti-abortion, and anti-stimulus just for the purpose of a D winning? I'd be really surprised and disappointed in anyone who would vote against their own beliefs for the sole purpose of having a 'win.' Some people call it values, some call it kool-aid. Potato, Potahto I guess. Why don't you stop drinking the liberal Kool-Aid and start voting for people with conservative values? Oh... cause it's not kool-aid... it's your beliefs... I guess it's only Kool-aid when it's the other side's values in question... A very popular argument as to why the party is in shambles is because they wandered too far from their base. And as for losing... yesterday didn't exactly go wrong for the Republicans. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.

Of course now-a-days every child has to be told they're special and patted on the head. Every bench rider on the team gets a trophy. Every dumbass that makes a paper-mache volcano gets a ribbon. Everyone is entitled to a job at top dollar or they strike. It's created an entire generation of entitlement and the solution some people seem to think is necessary is more government intervention... astounding. How about we quit teaching our kids it's ok to be a lazy, fat ass, entitled, drop out? It's not the government's job to make sure your kid isn't too stupid or fat to serve in the military. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life. -
She also supports abortion rights and the stimulus which are both big conservative issues. How moderate would you call a democrat who was against gay rights, was anti-abortion, and anti-stimulus? In fact, are there any democrats who feel that way? As a conservative, I think it was more important to stand behind someone with the same values rather than just elect someone simply because they have an R by their name. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.

If that is what actually happens, then of course it won't be that significant. However, I don't believe that the gov't option will turn away customers. Pelosi, Reed, and Obama will be very happy to accept as many customers as want to enroll. Since it will be designed to be inexpensive, why wouldn't a lot of individuals and businesses choose it? I understand that others will believe that Pelosi, Reed, and Obama have no greater ambition for the govt option than 2% of the population, but I do not. I tend to be in agreement with most of that. I find it highly doubtful that only 2% will try to join the cheapest health insurance available, which is exactly what happened in Hawaii. People dropped their expensive care for the cheap government option. Why wouldn't they? It eventually (ie. about 7 months) overloaded the system and it was cancelled. The bill is already estimated at $1.2T. Adding more people to the government option than planned will not make it cheaper. It will be immensely more expensive and will eventually go the way of Hawaii. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.

GOP victory Tuesday won't erase party's problems

[Reply] Good lucky, righties - you'll need it. Why the hell are you so damned terrified? Isn't it odd that you point to thinning ranks in a political party while mentioning that the same party may pick up wins against the opposition party? The GOP losing members is not a problem for Dems unless Dems are losing them more quickly. If the GOP gains seats, any argument you can try about how they're losing power is objectively falsifiable. I'm not worried, just pointing out, once again, the right is failing The right is gaining seats... so they're failing... Only you could tie those two things together. And only you could think winning *some* of the Governor seats is a win. Esp since you couldn't even hold Charlotte. umm yes. generally speaking, i consider a win to be a win. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life. -
The percentage thing is relatively new in the tipping tradition. The original T.I.P. was given to the server at the beginning of the meal To Insure Promptness. It became a standard and expected by servers. Restaurants were eventually permitted to lower hourly wages below minimum wage because servers were making their own pay check. I worked in restaurants and bars for 6 years and $2.13/hour was always the standard for a server. It was just enough to tax your claimed tips and we frequently got $0.00 paychecks. Those 6 years in the restaurant/bar business taught me a lot about life, work, and the blantant differences between people of all backgrounds. It is very, very easy to start grouping people together with preconcieved notions based on age, race, or sex when dealing with large numbers day in and day out. IMO, you can always tell what kind of person an individual is by how they treat a server. EDIT: BTW, I think the OP was being sarcastic when he said "highly scientific." You actually believe tip is an acronym? Meh. The true origins of tipping and the etymology of the word are somewhat debatable. The T.I.P. story is just one idea and happens to be the one I like since I think it captures the original intent of giving a server extra cash. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.

This is one of my biggest problems with the whole thing. Yes it'll be cheaper, if you don't count the money being spent. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.

And of course that claim is based on zero research or historical evidence. Since when has taxpayer money made anything cheaper? Maybe it will be cheaper for the people actually in the public option (maybe. it could just go tits up like Hawaii)... but that's only going to be 2% of the population by 2019, according to the House bill. Usually the govt doesn't do things more efficiently, but in this case, the entire point of the public option is to offer competition, and if that means what is implied, it will be less expensive, with taxpayer money making it so. If the public option isn't cheaper, then of course that would be very different. I contend that congress and the pres will make any public option accomodate as many people that want it. The House Bill estimates that only 2% of the population will be enrolled in the public option and even that won't happen until 2019. What kind of competition is that? -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.

All I've ever heard was about how Clinton fucked that up. Apparently the citizens and gov of Kosovo feel differently than do the neo-cons of the US......I wonder if Iraq will errect a statue of GWB All I've ever heard is how we should mind our own business and not go into foreign countries. Apparently the citizens and gov of Kosovo feel differently than do the isolationists of the US. I wonder how many libs will be irate over the fact a US President has a statue in another country. We spent time, money, and American lives on Clinton's war just so he could have a statue in their country? -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.

Do poor people do things to keep themselves poor.
FallingOsh replied to XitXitXit's topic in Speakers Corner
What I meant as pegging it to income is: your income in the end is what's going to enable you to persue your dreams. I didn't mean it to say chase income; I meant it to say you need it and you should use that metric to figure out if you can afford that house (in reference to Darius's post). Gotcha. I'd agree with that. Your income should dictate what lifestyle you live. You shouldn't pick a lifestyle and then bitch because your job or circumstances don't cover it. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life. -
Let not forget that convicted rapists already paid their dues
FallingOsh replied to warpedskydiver's topic in Speakers Corner
I am quite good with giving them their own islands.. Attu and Kiska come to mind.. stuff em all there and let them buggerr each other for the rest of their lives. Weekly air drops of supplies... and a VERY lethal cordon of death around the islands if anyone approaches with a boat or tries to get off the island...recidivism.. solved. Like that move, No Escape. Being left on an island with weekly air drops doesn't sound half bad. I might sign up for something like that if it were a little further south and minus the pesky rapists running around. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.
