In this context (as opposed to, for example, "How do you make a PB&J sandwich?") How implies "to what degree?" not a comparison to other countries. We could assume the extremes of the spectrum are everybody hates anybody of a race different from their own as maximum racism, and everybody considers the color of a person's skin as no more significant than the color of their eyes as total absence of racism. The US certainly does not have an absence of racism, but most people in the US are not hung up on the race of others. Some of the worst racists I have encountered are the police (due to the circular argument that there are more blacks in prison, so blacks must commit more crime), the elderly (due to growing up in a time when racism was more acceptable), and those that Jeff Foxworthy might call rednecks (often due to lack of exposure to many people of other races and a pride in a heritage that included racism). That certainly does not mean that every member of any of those groups is racist, simply that the concentration of racism in those groups, in my experience, is higher than the population in general. Furthermore, many people who do not consider themselves racist draw the line at interracial dating and marriage, which they are often opposed to. I have two good friends which I would consider racist (and rednecks ). Of these two, the one I have spent the most time with in recent years, I have also tried to subtilely educate w/r/t racism being a bad thing. A while back, I saw him invite a black neighbor into his home for dinner. For me this would be insignificant, aside from the fact that I don't often invite anyone over for dinner. For him, I considered it good progress. My oldest uncle, in his seventies, owns a second house, which he and my aunt keep well maintained and rent out. A couple years back, when the house was vacant, the only renter applicants were black. Reluctantly, they rented the house to a black family. My uncle's best friend of many decades has not spoken to him since. My aunt commented about how clean the black mother kept her children, genuinely surprised that the kids were not somehow dirtier due to not being white. So, while undeniably still racist, they have made progress in recent years, at least to the extent that they have learned that cleanliness and reliable rent payments are not a function of skin color, and that is a good thing, even if it is only a small step in the right direction. Racism is still very much alive in America, but little by little it is diminishing. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!

A few weeks back I overheard a couple of Navy recruiters (or possibly Army, I commonly see both) talking, and one of them mentioned that the Marines were no longer accepting recruits with full sleeve tattoos. I can't help looking at those two new policies and wondering about the priorities. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!

The question assumes racism is not a binary quality. It does not, however, imply the requirement of an answer relative to other countries or other eras, such as "How does racism in the US compare with racism in other countries?" or "Has racism in the US increased or decreased in the last x years?" imply. Since LHO is dead and assassinated a Democrat President, I'm thinking he is probably not more likely to kill McCain, primarily due to the former quality, but the latter characteristic should be taken into consideration for hypothetical comparisons. How is the Western world being demoralized? By definition, I believe evolution is an ongoing process. There are no "end results." Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!

It appears to me as though he was implying that currently the law is unjust, but not un-Constitutional (at least not based on the merits of the arguments presented), so it is the Legislative branch that needs to step up to remedy the situation. I don't see anything wrong with such editorializing, especially from a Justice capable of recognizing the difference between his personal opinion and his judicial opinion. In fact, I think such editorializing can be a good thing. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!

I fail to see how luck has any religious connotations. If I improve my flush to a straight flush on the river against someone who had flopped four aces (though I thought he only had three aces with a high kicker), that's luck (assuming a fair dealer), no more, no less. The probability of losing with four aces is very low, but not zero, no divine intervention necessary. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!

Consider three years to be a pretty good life expectancy from a laptop. Watch ebay and see what the one year old version of that model is selling for. If it's going for about $950 or more, skip the extended warranty and just plan to sell and replace it after 11-12 months. Repeat each year. That way, she'll always have a laptop that's no more than a year old and is under warranty, without any extra (or only very minimal) out of pocket expense. Note that not all laptops maintain sufficient retail value after a year to make this technique work. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!

Personally, I've never had any glitches with updates, but they are not totally unheard of, even in the Mac world. Another recommendation I would make to you, as a new Mac user, is to create a second account with admin privileges, and then removing the admin privileges from the account you normally use. This will add an extra layer of security to your system. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!

Considering the calls were a HOAX - yes, I do. http://www.krdo.com/global/story.asp?s=8184795 So, you're willing to assume the alleged prank caller is guilty without any proof or trial, but feel the rights of the FLDS have been violated, despite evidence supporting allegations of abuse being found upon execution of the search warrants. I wonder if I am the only one that recognizes your double standard? Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!

Beer gave pretty good instructions for updating. I would just add that it's a good idea to try updating again after software update completes. On rare occasions, usually on new machines, there will be two incremental updates available at the same time. When such is the case, Software update will only install one at a time. (Leopard may actually recheck automatically.) For best results with Quicktime, download Fip4Mac, which adds the ability for QT to play Windows Media files, and Perian, which adds gives Quicktime the ability to play AVI, FLV, DivX, and many other formats. I'm not sure what format CNN uses. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!

Sure! Who can forget Powell's speech on Iraq's WMDs to the UN in February 2003? It had everything: weaponized anthrax, ballistic missile sites, mobile bioweapons labs, chemical weapons depots, chemical warfare decontamination vehicles... How many of those involved in the run up to the war have shown remorse? Gen. Powell has. How many of them tried to talk Bush out of invading Iraq? Gen. Powell tried very hard. Yes, in the end, he followed orders and gave the UN speech, but, imo, it was because he took seriously his commitment to serve at the pleasure of the President, and felt obligated to obey his boss, because the Office of the POTUS and the Cabinet position of Secretary of State are greater than any individual occupant of either. It's government, not business. It shouldn't be run like business. I don't know what Carter's motivation was, but offering something that was not asked for has the potential of easing tense relations and make us appear to be negotiating from a benevolent position. It's a sad state of affairs when that is considered a bad thing. War may be a necessary evil from time to time, but a good leader always seeks a peaceful solution first and foremost. Imagine someone actually having the integrity yo honor previous agreements It would be so much better to have a partisan hack in office, right? I've seen volunteers that make much less than construction workers volunteer. I would be extremely surprised to find that HFH does not accept monetary donations. In other words, it is the highly paid volunteer who misallocates resources, not the charity. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!
