Disagree. Atheism is a religion. You all have faith in your central myth " If science can't prove it, IT DOES NOT NOR EVER WILL EXIST". I know a lot of atheists, and quite a few scientists. I don't think any of them would claim that something cannot exist if science can't prove it. Science doesn't know what happened during the first 10^43 seconds of the universe. You make it sound as though scientists would be in denial of the universe's existence. That's a strawman argument. What reasons do atheists have to consider the possibility of a deity? What observations have been made that can be best explained by the existence of a deity? What canon would that be? Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!

Not only is there nothing to support the evidence of carrowolves, there is no evidence of carrowolves at all. Are you saying that there is verifiable evidence of the existence of a deity? If you are aware of such evidence, please share. (That billions of people believe in deities is not evidence of the existence of deities.) Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First, scientific truth is established by observation and repeatable experimentation, not God. Nor does it require faith. That's what is so great about science. There's no faith required. Back to spiritual truth: If it was established by God (another term that requires a definition), how is it different from religion? If spiritual truth is vital to survival, how are non-spiritual atheists able to survive? Can you offer some examples of validated experimentation regarding spiritual knowledge? Also, could you please define evil? It is another term, like spiritual and God, which is often used, but rarely defined. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!

There, I fixed the statement for you. Simply that most atheists don't believe because there is a lack of any evidence of a deity. It would be very illogical to assume the existence of a deity without any evidence to suggest the possibility. Me personally? Typically, yes. I suppose it depends on how one defines God. There are definitions that are not at odds with science, and by their very definition are supported by observable evidence. One such definition would be that God is the universe. No deity necessary. Of course, those that worship deities can tend to appear a bit odd at times, but then who doesn't appear a bit odd at times? Correct. Absolutely none. That was the exact point of their creation as fictional, uh, things. Why is it a poor point? You understood it. There's no evidence to suggest the existence of carrowolves. Just like deities. Yes, that's true. And they have interpreted it. If it is possible that they are more capable, it is equally possible that they are less capable. It is also possible that they have similar capabilities. Yes, so he wrote a better mathematical theory. He didn't reinterpret what Aristotle said. The former is analogous the the job of the legislature, not the SCOTUS. The interpretation of Aristotle claims has not been reinterpreted. They still mean the same thing now as they did when he made them. However, demands for greater accuracy and precision have demanded more suitable mathematical theories to explain what we observe. By the same token, the laws regarding capital punishment have been suitably interpreted. That doesn't make them good laws that serve well the needs of US society. I would argue that they don't serve society's needs well. But the solution is not to pretend that the laws mean something else. The solution is to change the laws in a manner consistent with the Constitution, which assigns that responsibility to the Congress. No, we don't. Nor do we interpret what he said to be something different. New mathematical theories were developed, just as we need new legislation regarding capital punishment, not a new interpretation of old legislation. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! To the contrary, atheists base a lack of belief on a lack of evidence. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!

If that's the case, then I must admit to misunderstanding many of your posts. Could you please precisely define spiritual truth as you are using it? Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!

That is what you are suggesting the SCOTUS do, reinterpret the law. So your point was that Einstein reexamined motion and wrote a better mathematical construct that was a more accurate and better suited to explain observations? Why would you offer an example that counters your own point? That's not a very effective debate strategy. There is nothing wrong with the interpretation of the law by the SCOTUS; it's the law that sucks. Fixing that is a job for the Congress, not the SCOTUS. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! I doubt Google has. I just made up the concept. Try back in a month, and this page will likely be the top hit. Heck, try back in a couple thousand years, and you might even find more than one hit! That won't make them real, though. Something like two thirds of Americans believed Iraq had weapons of mass destruction in early 2003. That the majority held the belief didn't make it true. Perhaps I wasn't clear with mine. Einstein didn't reinterpret Newton's Laws. He wrote his own. Likewise, it is not the courts place to reinterpret our laws. It is the job of the Legislature to rewrite them if there is need for change. I strongly believe that we need to change our laws to eliminate capital punishment, but not at the expense of reinterpreting the purpose of the judicial branch of the government. Umm … Einstein amended Newton's laws. He didn't change the interpretation. When Relativity theory is not taken into consideration due to the absence of the need for the precision it offers, Newton's laws are interpreted pretty much the same way he wrote them (although I have heard the first law restated, so as to reflect Newton's introduction to it, rather than a restatement, in less general form, of his second law, making the three laws more coherently stated and complete). The Polygamy case in TX-Defining what marriage means.
jcd11235 replied to Darius11's topic in Speakers Corner
I think the reason all the children were removed is that they were shuffled from house to house, so there was no way to reliably tell which kids were associated with which house. To compound matters, the parents were not willing to step up and identify their own children, nor did the children identify their parents. I find it tragically humorous that those same parents are now complaining about how the state took their kids away from them. If they cared so much about their kids, why didn't they claim them as their own during the raid and possibly avoid much of the drama? Polygamy or no, the state had little choice but to take all the kids, and the parents played a large role in that. Still, So far it appears that, at least as far as the judge is concerned, the polygamy is not the issue, the underage marriages and sexual abuse are. I think the media has just latched onto the polygamy aspect, because that is one of the characteristics by which the FLDS is known. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! Although there are other forms of atheism, the most common I have encountered is essentially the attitude that, in lieu of any evidence of the existence of a supernatural higher being, there is no worthy reason to consider the possibility. It's like taking the time and energy to worry about whether the Carrowolves are going to attack the vegetarians at the next full moon. (Note: a Carrowolve is the vegetable form of a werewolf, coming out only on nights of the full moon, and silently stalking vegetarians, especially vegans, only to hurl themselves through the air at supersonic speeds to pierce the heart of their unsuspecting prey.) Had you ever given any thought to the existence of Carrowolves before? My guess is that you haven't, because there is absolutely zero evidence to suggest their existence. That's how atheists feel about supreme deities. If some credible evidence of the existence of YAHVEH (aka Allah), or some other supreme being, is found, most atheists will probably consider the possibility. Until that evidence is found, the subject really isn't worth their time, any more than pondering the existence of Carrowolves is. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!

The Polygamy case in TX-Defining what marriage means.
jcd11235 replied to Darius11's topic in Speakers Corner
Right. And what the OP did was ask what general opinion was about what consenting adults did outside of this case. It wasn't ambiguous at all. The OP implied that this case was about multiple marriages. As masterrig pointed out, this case has been about child abuse, not polygamy. It is not an attempt to define marriage, except to the extent that marriage is an institution between (or among, in the case of multiple marriages) adults. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! When I was in the Army, policy was any tats preexisting at time of enlistment were fine. Tats obtained while in the service were restricted with respect to location. I can't remember exactly where was allowed and where wasn't, since I never got any while I was in. I think they had to be hidden with sleeves up and in Class B's. Math tutoring available. Possible, but not probable. I didn't see any references to tattoo sleeves in your references. Most people I've encountered with full sleeves are simply tattoo lovers, not gang members. Motorcycle gangs might be an exception. More likely it's simply due to a perceived unprofessional appearance in BDU's (or whatever the Corps calls its uniforms) with sleeves up. No, I proved mine. The point from this post which I took issue with claimed that the answer to the question needed to compare the US with other countries in order to be answered, which is not true. As for using any comparison, everything is relative, except for the speed of light in a particular medium (for which the wavelength is relative). Ask where something is, and it can only be answered relative to another location. Ask what the temperature of something is, and the answer will be given relative to one baseline or another. Ask what something is, and the answer is relative (is my computer an electronic device, or is it an organized collection of plastic, silicon, metal, etc; or is it a collection of atoms, or is it a collection of subatomic particles and a massive amount of energy taking up a disproportionately large amount of otherwise empty space). If I ask who someone is, the answer is relative. Such comparative answers are inherent to language. "How racist is America?" doesn't require comparison to other countries. What it does require is a definition of racism, and some sort of metric by which to measure, either quantitatively or qualitatively. That's true of any question. Math tutoring available.
