On the other hand, sex on a regular basis sure would be nice!

Thought of another one of my favorites. A few weeks ago I was walking back from the packing area and this young whuffo chick said, "Hey, I really like your bellbottoms." I was wearing my RW suit with the booties folded up.
-
Which is kind of an important factor since, ya know, we don't skydive in a vacuum.

When I mentioned to a couple of coworkers that I fall faster than a lot of people, one of them insisted (INSISTED) that different fall rates are impossible because everything falls at the same speed. Everyone knows that, he said, it's basic knowledge from high school physics. Yeah, ok.

Really? There's only a small number of people this category? Huh. Perhaps I have more to be thankful for than I thought!

Hey! I only got a 74! I feel cheated.

Newbie skydiver Frustrated
nerd137 replied to newbieforever's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Aside from all the other advice you've gotten, try not to get overly frustrated and/or beat yourself up. Right now flat spins might be an issue, but 200 jumps down the line they'll be a fading memory and you'll have new hurdles to contend with. There's a lot to learn in skydiving. This advice is a perfect example of the pot calling the kettle black 'cause I get the same way (if any of my friends are reading this, surely they are rolling their eyes and chuckling at me ). I'm very prone to negative thinking. Actually, this advice is directed as much at myself as it is toward you. -
Nah, that's okay.

I retract this statement. After reading some of PJ's other posts, I've formed a different opinion.
-
I dunno, PJ; I can't figure you out. It's almost as though you feel guilty about your bigoted sentiments. Nah, that couldn't be it...
-
...your point being what?
-
Yeah, ok.
-
Habit? Is that what they're called? (Really. I dont know. )

Okay, now you're just being silly. Anybody can be a racist, anybody can be a bully. But broadly speaking, anti-white racial violence perpetuated by blacks (or any other racial minority) has and continues to be isolated and sporadic. It has not historically been, nor is it currently, a wide-spread or systematic problem. (Not the least reason for which is the fact that since the end of the Civil War whites have consistently tended to live separate and apart from minority communities.)

I see your point. But I don't think it's realisitic to presume that everyone can force themselves to be 'colorblind.' Race and color are there, in your face, just like gender. Refering to people simply as human and ignoring their racial characteristics doesn't eliminate the fact that you can plainly see someone's skin tone and other racial features. Since people tend to treat one another differently based on these distinctions, pretending to ignore such distinctions won't accoplish much in terms of equality. I think your experience with blacks must be different than mine. I live and work in pretty diverse environments and have never felt socially 'refused' by blacks in any general sense. Could it possibly be that your resentful attitude toward blacks has led many blacks to avoid socializing with you personally? Again, I haven't found this to be true; not in my experience anyway.

How, exactly, is that a racist perspective?
-
But I liiiiiiiiiike the polls!

You really think race-based media has this effect? What makes you say/think that?
-
Actually, if you think about it, 'black' is an ethnicity. I don't see a black station differently that I do a Spanish one. I agree that color/race can be a poor indicator of ethnic lines, but I also think that race, color, ethnicity, and culture (along with gender and sexuality) are very intertwined indentifiers that cannot be so easily seperated from one another. Why? Because whites and blacks are different peoples. (Not a bad thing! No worse that the fact that my brother and I are different people.) Who's on the right track? That's a toughy. But in my opinion talking about race explicitly versus implicitly is irrelevant.
-
How come? What harm is coming from race-based media? Would it be better if it was "ethnic-centered"? What's so negative about reinforcing a racial/cultural identity? Whites do the same thing...it's just not explicit in the way it is for racial/ethnic minorities. Just think about how many magazines or TV shows are catered to white audiences in the same way that black shows/magazines are catered to a black audiences. I can't say I understand why racial/ethnic/cultural differences gets people so upset. EDIT: What about gender-based TV and magazines? Are those, too, bad things?
-
You *sure* 'bout that?
-
Did I say that? You seem to have very strong opinions on racial matters...and exhibit a lot of racial resentment towards blacks. You should pick up a few books and try to learn about why black folks feel the way they do. You may not agree with some black perspectives, but understanding may ease your sense of frustration. At a minimum, you'll quickly realize that blacks don't all think alike...many feel just as you do.

Affirmative action programs aren't illegal; it's only the use of quotas in such programs that's illegal. You may not agree that affirmative action is a good approach to resolving racial disparaties in this country; that's fine. But neither do you show a good understanding of (a) how such programs work, or (b) why there are used in the first place. You might try and educate yourself a little more before forming such strong opinions.

Ding ding ding! Correct. But the article doesn't mention that once - only skin color. Of course the article doesn't mention it, they would rather make it an issue of skin color. I also notice they failed to mention the white families who live in the same conditions. Um, HELLO....the souce is BET, not WET. The entire point of BET's existence is to bring news/entertainment/etc about black people to black people. The white community isn't a central issue for BET. Blacks can get allll the info they need on white folks' problems from any of a wide variety of other sources.

Actually, racial quotas have been illegal in the US since 1978.
