Not directed at you but, Maybe that's the reason why we dont use black rubber bands or larkshead the tailgate closing band. It's been done before, and some of us have learned from that. Apparently that guy needs several more skydives on top of his thousands to learn proper preparation of base gear. just my 2 cents. sorry for the rant. Sorry I was mistaken. The one I saw was Saturday morning, all the gear landed close to the west fence. "The evil of the world is made possible by nothing but the sanction you give it. " -John Galt from Atlas Shrugged, 1957 -

Oregon "ALL OF THE ABOVE BOOGIE", Who Will Be there??
tr027 replied to sdctlc's topic in Wing Suit Flying
Yea, guess somebody had to, even though one of the wingsuiters quietly kept his still camera put away during the entire event, never got a shot off, even on the ground... edit: that first shot i remember was the jump where there was some grab-foot being played the whole time so the whole 4way base was breathing like crazy. too bad you lost your freebag and PC, I was one of several people (Ed, and other wingsuiters as well) that saw it hit the ground not more than 100ft from the fence, closer than the main. edit: unless your cutaway was a different one, i dont remember how many there were, so i may be mistaken. PM sent. "The evil of the world is made possible by nothing but the sanction you give it. " -John Galt from Atlas Shrugged, 1957 -
Yea, not to hijack, but I'd rather hear what you think of your S-Fly Expert, given it's recent performance in the competition arena against newer suits.

I'd like to get the impressions of riggers towards seam sealing a parachute. I recently came across silicon glue for seam sealing tents (waterproofing seams) and fixing small holes. Seems that using such a product to seal the seams on a parachute from leaking air might be useful, especially on older canopies or F111. Is the air lost through the seams enough to make a noticeable difference though? (perhaps only larger canopies with more area) Thanks "The evil of the world is made possible by nothing but the sanction you give it. " -John Galt from Atlas Shrugged, 1957

Ed, Glenn got some nice vid of the one I did Monday morning after the Lodi boogie, in case the video is finished soon (or ever) Martini and Patterson: Sunday at Northwest, be there or you're square. Stupid lists are SOO east coast... and we wouldn't want to be that now, would we? "The evil of the world is made possible by nothing but the sanction you give it. " -John Galt from Atlas Shrugged, 1957 -
You call 190 km a long drive? That's a puny girly drive! And mind you, flattery will get you nowhere with us Americans.. "The evil of the world is made possible by nothing but the sanction you give it. " -John Galt from Atlas Shrugged, 1957

IMHO, I don't think James is being dramatic, merely trying to have the facts correctly reported so that history is as accurate as possible, and that respective credit is given where credit is due. I would recommend that you consider first what type of flying you want to do the most of. I think your pace towards upsizing is prudent. However, if you prefer flocking with others or performing acrobatics, you would be best suited (no pun intended) by staying on the phantom or getting an acro. Yes, Ed, you heard right. Talked to the fishman yesterday and he is planning to grace SDO with a special guest appearance for a day. This is a good opportunity for the young birds to hang out with a high-caliber flier instead of the jokesters and riff-raff like Vectorboy and myself (ok, maybe just me). It'll be a great time I'm sure. "The evil of the world is made possible by nothing but the sanction you give it. " -John Galt from Atlas Shrugged, 1957 -
Well, from what I hear people are still having dangerous oscillations with the vented ZP (even with proper symmetrical connection). So why not just use F111. Sure, it has a shorter lifespan, and so you may be buying a few more PCs in the long run, but I'd rather buy a few more PCs than a fat hospital bill. Why spend big bucks on a super sophisticated pie-slice ZP PC when you can get equal or better performance from a vented F111 (and have money left over to buy a spare)? Just wondering, not saying there's anything wrong with the current way, just exploring all the possibilities while trying to stamp out oscillations.. Since F111 virtually eliminates oscillation, why not just always use F111 for all subterminal or all jumps. Can the stability of F111 PCs be improved by venting (F111 stills spills air like a ZP, just not as much)?? Has anyone tested or used a vented F111 PC? Perhaps a Toxic built of F111? I would only rat out as a last resort when a jumper is putting others in clear/imminent danger. edit: 'last resort' meaning no other solutions have worked, and ratting is the only way to save lives, which I'm pretty sure would never happen. Perhaps its abdication of individual thought combined with the blind acceptance of stereotypes and 3rd hand hearsay. Few people have an open mind to scrutinize and evaluate things for themselves, but rather just swallow and assimilate into whatever is told to them by the majority. edit: this is just my guess. I see it all as parachuting, and enjoy both disciplines. "The evil of the world is made possible by nothing but the sanction you give it. " -John Galt from Atlas Shrugged, 1957

The Mystery Of Hanwags, or How To Fly Phantom at 2.9
tr027 replied to yuri_base's topic in Wing Suit Flying
Yuri, Perhaps you are on to something, but just looking in the wrong area? My theory is you should be looking for the gain in delay available. Because you are artificially inducing higher angle of attack (to position the overall lift vector antiparallel to the direction of glide/fall) the performance should most likely resemble float mode (decreased glide, increased delay). It's too bad you have to travel so far to the dz otherwise you could test more extensively. "The evil of the world is made possible by nothing but the sanction you give it. In that case: ** Make a high voltage power line landing. ** Land back on/in the Antenna you jumped from. ** Land back inside a building you jumped from ** Strike guy wires and get away with it.
