Bill, I've met your wife. You are not getting the short end of the deal!!!! ... I'm just saying? Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."

+1... Yup! No problems here. So, expain to me again, why do my friends keep dying? Look at the big picture, not a specific sub-set, in terms of appreciative inquiry: Big picture = declining fatalties as a proportion of total jumps. We're doing well here. Specific subset = increasing fatalities from high-performance parachute mishandling. We can do better here. I.E., a call to action to do better on a subset of an otherwise well done self-regulating system And why do your friends keep dying? 1. Everybody dies. Get used to it. 2. Human beings make mistakes. 3. Mistakes hurt more when speed and altitude are involved. 4; Skydiving involves speed and altitude. 5. Your friends are skydiving and because they are human, they make mistakes. 6. That is why your friends keep dying. Any other questions? Yes. Just one. Are you suggesting that we ignore this "specific subset" just because the "big picture" looks rosie? I hope thats not the message your trying to send. I'm not in favor of eliminating any disipline in this sport. I am in favor of finding a viable solution to a known problem. Just imagine what the big picture could look like 10 years from now. Just fitting up all the parts with the carbon fiber. Attached are some early pix... Sounds like the G-12 is quite a step up from the G-10 as far as frame rate. I may have to spend some more $$. Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."

Start with basic first aid (red cross certificate) and move onto first responder stuff?? My point is, many professions (teachers, county workers, etc.) require some first aid certificate proof for licensure. Align it with those and you become more valid. Alot of us are part timers that would be interested. Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."

I watched a highly skilled CRW Dawg swoop a lightly loaded (1.3:1) PD Lightning and carve it skillfully around a tree. It was incredible. My point here is that any canopy can perform high speed maneuvers. The canopies are not the issue here. Or, maybe stated better, the canopies are not the biggest issue here. The decision making process of the canopy pilots (that's each and every one us) is the issue we need to address. More stringent guidelines for "ME" to consider when "I" make decisions regarding things like canopy size, wing loading, landing patterns, when and when not to perform HP landings, low turns, hard turns, training, etc. would be helpful. Enforcement of these guidelines will likely be the key to success. What we’re talking about here people is a paradigm change. And, I think we’re seeing the first steps in changing that paradigm. This will not be easy, and it will not happen over night! So, DocPop, these discussions are not in vein. Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."

Here's my take: One of these days you're going to need to do a good PLF. Wouldn't it be a good idea to have some PLF experience before you actually need it? Hence, I tell my students to do PLF landings right from the git-go. Stand-up will come later. Other I's tell them to stand up landings from jump 1. Stand-up is a goal, yes. Trying to PLF in a dire situation without having ever done one quite often results in a mess. I was a gymnast for 13 years before I ever made a skydive. How I do a PLF and how I would teach another to do one are two different things. I'm now 50.. cough, cough

I just found out that these coupons are now good for one gallon of free gas at most gas stations. This is a very good deal and some of you may have some of these around the house. Use them this summer to commute to your favorite DZ! Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."

I think I may have mentioned this before, but, I almost had a date once.

..... or, here's a novel approach, students should be jumping lightly loaded, docile canopies on low wind days. If you cannot handle whatever the day will throw at you, you shouldn’t be jumping. I know $h!t happens, but, you can control the degree to which it occurs. If you're around this sport long enough, you'll get a chance to practice PLF's. Don't miss any opportunities to practice these techniques on the ground... just in case.

I use the "Lens Mate" filter adapter on my G-10 with a good skylight filter to protect the lense and camera. Cannon makes a Filter adapter for this camera, but at full zoom the lense hits the filter? Poor design by Cannon. Granted, for skydiving, you'll never go to full zoom. But, why take the chance of breaking the camera if you hit the wrong button? I use the rings because it seems (at least to me) to be the least intrusive. I tend to only see the middle ring. I've tried the cross hairs, but I didn't like the way it showed up in the corners. For me, it was more distracting. When I get your helmet done, why don't you srew on my ringsight (rings) and Porta's new sight (crosshair) and see which you like the best. Or, since your helmet is just like mine, take mine for a test flight. By the way, I delivered Dan's helmet to him yesterday. I cleaned and preped the mold to start yours today. Extreme loyalty to home DZ?
skyjumpenfool replied to hokierower's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Pops almost got it right... I think our loyalties are to the friends we meet in this sport. I'm happy to say that over the years, many DZO's have made it to my list of friends. -
Do you have staff rates at your dz?
skyjumpenfool replied to skymama's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Bill, this is copied/pasted from SDTC website... Every Friday is "Staff Rate Friday"! $19 to 13,000' skydives for licensed jumpers. I also did not know this. Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky." -

Hey Scooter... we had talked about your theropy last summer, If you're willing to share, I'm very curious how that's going?? There is a very good cure for the "DOG" problem... You gently pet the dog as he/she walks across your lines, then, you go slap the dog owner silly! Hey, I'm just saying... Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."
