Don't forget.... We once had the privilege and we abused it (at least a few did). "WE" as a group are now being painted with that wide brush. In light of all that is going on in our sport lately, have we really earned the right to have this privilege returned?

I signed the petition. That being said and done, I'd like to comment on the long post above... We were planning a trip to El Cap back in the day. It was closed to us not because of people spattering the rocks with their brains, but, because irresponsible participants couldn't even pick up their own litter. If we can't control idiots who choose to slam into the swoop ponds at the nationals, hook turn in the traffic pattern, jump a camera with 37 skydives, or downsize to a Katana at 47 jumps, how will we display our "freedom" to base jump? I think if you watch the video a couple times, at some point, he is dealing with a horse shoe mal. Granted, he may be causing this problem by grabbing onto the lines, but it's hard to see if he is grabbing lines or if the lines are grabbing him. A couple things I should point out… This was not an intentional deployment. The jumper who grabbed the PC did so by accident. He’s a very experienced jumper who is not happy about his part in this. It sounds as though one of his fingers got into the PC handle and caused the pull. Also, this demonstrates how wildly lines and bridal can “dance” around and grab stuff like hands, cameras/snag points, feet, open flaps, etc. Clearly, mistakes were made here. It’s nice to see that no one has resorted to blasting the players. That being said, I think it’s interesting that during this, the jumper with the mal never lets go of his grip on jumper 2. An extra hand might have been helpful. Not to mention that bag comes very close to grabbing her as well. Keep in mind, this video has been slowed down a bit. Well then, I'm quiting this sport after my 99th year!!

Grab a camera... any old box with a shutter will do. Start taking pics on the ground. Some great shots can be taken from there. Take a Photography class and learn about the art. When it comes time to strap a camera to your helmet, you'll be better prepared.

My 13th jump was my first (of many) PC jumps. It was also my first reserve ride. It cost me two cases of beer and a bottle of scotch. I made many PC jumps and didn’t see another reserve until after switching to a square main. I would also like to jump one again someday. Balloon sutes were all the rage back then. We had several people jumping them but I don't recall Roger in one. I drove down to Z-Hills for the Easter Boogie with Roger in 1980. We took a side trip to go over and watch the very first space shuttle launch. He was a great guy, unfortunatly, I lost touch with him over the years. Roger was a friend who jumped back in the 70's and 80's. He died recently (not skydiving related) which may explain the storage unit sale. To my memory, Roger never needed a balloon suit? What color were they? Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."
