Static Line twists / First freefall
koppel replied to 14000andfalling's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
having gone through S/L myself (with various issues like spinning) and now being rated for TM / SL / AFF I am in complete agreement with you. One of the things that I have noticed (put those flames away boys) is that S/L students tend to be more independent and self-sufficient over their AFF counterparts in the early days off student status. I think by the time that they finish their B's at around 50 jumps there is basically no difference between them. The confidence that SL students get from going by themselves is immense. I would love to see a course that combines them. Maybe its time we planned the TM-SL-AFF training table I like my canopy... ...it lets me down. -

Firstly contact Ankie at Wings for the easy answer. But to help out each Wings that is built can be modified by your friendly local rigger. Basicaly where the bottom flap and the side flaps of the main tray meet he will need to unpick the stitching until the last inch or so. For the last inch he will make a bar-tack for reinforcing and that is the whole process. There is no other work required than that. If that is not clear enough let me know and I will post some photo's for you. Wings Rock I like my canopy... ...it lets me down.

I have a Vectran kill-line on my PC. I am getting to the point of having to replace the PC due to age and wear and tear while the kill-line is still fine. I like my canopy... ...it lets me down.

What is it exactly that makes a parachute to...

One of the catch-phrases that I had drummed into me when I was doing my Instructors Course was "Must Know.......Should Know.......Could Know" Give them the Must Know on the FJC with maybe a very small amount of Should Know if they show aptitude and are not being overloaded. Leave the Could Know for later I like my canopy... ...it lets me down. -
Transporting rig on motorcycle?
koppel replied to floridadiver81's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Not suggesting that you do this ----- but consider this. You jump out of a plane with your rig on and expect it to stay closed while you travel at 120mph / 200kmph Now you want to get on a motorcycle which is most likely not going to be travelling as fast and you are concerned about it opening. If that is the case you may want to get some new gear -
Could you please explain why you believe this. It was my understanding that one of the benefits of slinks was the fact that unlike rapide links slinks have the same integral strength in any direction. I like my canopy... ...it lets me down.

Privileges of an "almost" rigger

I was 10 saves for about 100 repacks. Now I am a dozen for about 150 repacks. I guess numbers can be anomolous for a while but they will settle down over time. I like my canopy... ...it lets me down. -
I hvae used one since they were released. Not tested whether it fires at the appropriate hieght yet however I have been very happy with the customer service. I had a screen break on mine and the replacement screen was in the post the same day!! No charge either. I have also had mine refuse to turn on giving nstead a system control error. This was after 8 months of use. It had been extremely hot weather here in Australia at the time and I had the rig in the boot of the car. This may or may not have been a factor. In future I shall keep it in the car with me instead, just in case. I am happy with the fact that it showed an error on start-up and would not activate as this gives me confidence ints its system checks that are performed at each start-up. Also again the customer service was excellent and a new one was on the way to me with a request for me to send the in-active unit back. I am happy with both the product and the company so far. I just turned mine on and got bored of holding the button down at +12000m (approx 36,000 feet) so I guess that means yes ETA: Argus that is and the reason I chose Argus over Vigil is that it does have a service therefore it gets checked out which to my mind is more convienent. Knowing that I will have down time when it is being serviced rather than going to a boogie and finding out that there is an error and it wont turn on and then having to send it back. Obviously that could still happen with the Argus I just feel that it is les likely if it is being serviced. Think about your car.... I like my canopy... ...it lets me down.

If you are concerned with landing in water then the Vigil is not the choice for you. Only the Cypres2 and the Argus are currently waterresistant. Is there a reason why you have not considered the Argus? I like my canopy... ...it lets me down.

One thing that has not been mentioned here yet is bulk. White reserves have the least bulk to my knowledge through to the darker colours which would have the most. The difference may be small but can be a factor on some containers. I agree that I would prefer to see manufacturers make it standard to have a different colour thread than the material and block colours are the only way to go for reserves. not sure if I am understanding this correctly, however there was a case here in Oz in the last couple of years of a PC in tow caused by rotating the bridle under the pin after closing. The pin was forced through the bridle on throwing the PC!! I like my canopy... ...it lets me down.

over 1000 jumps on my Wings and never a problem mostly I se things like this being put down to packing errors or lack of attention when packing I like my canopy... ...it lets me down.

I pack mine with the grommet to the BOC and the line-stows to the reserve. great for wingsuit jumps. I pack that way for all jumps now as well. I also have dynamic corners. I like my canopy... ...it lets me down.

I also heard mention of a highly experienced jumper with 10,000+ jumps who hit the tail on the middle of his rig apparently I am surprised that it did not induce him to put an AAD in his rig yet. I like my canopy... ...it lets me down.

I am in Australia and have dealt with Rigs and Things on many occassions. I source much of hte gear I use through them and they have been nothing but helpful at all times. Useful when you ahve to rely on someone in another country to do the right thing. 10/10 I like my canopy... ...it lets me down.

Im sorry I cant tell you anything about the actual technical side of the Soloy. I can tell you that we had one for some time at our DZ and it is the most fantastic plane for a smaller DZ if you want something that can go like the clappers. From memeory with 6 POB's it clibmed at something like a Caravan does with a full load. I like my canopy... ...it lets me down.

Try and think about the right tool for the right job. I understand that a custom rig built for you in your colours is not something you can let go of easily. Its your pride and joy. It is possible to make some kind of cushion that is fixed inside your main tray that will fill some of the space. Think about the fact however that the D-bag is designed to fit entirely within the main tray. There is a reason for this. Consider a bag moving around in the main tray moving the stows and the free line due to it being a loose fit. The potential problems are not nice. At the end of the day you are far better to use the right tool for the right job which in your case would mean parting with this container and getting a new one. Think of it as being given the oportunity to get a new rig with this seasons colors etc good luck in either case I like my canopy... ...it lets me down.
