Letter urges President Obama to be more transparent
jgoose71 replied to jgoose71's topic in Speakers Corner
When I listen to the stupidity of some of news media questions, I am thinking it might be a good thing to keep them at arms length. Having once been interviewed by my local news station, I KNOW that they ask rather stupid questions. As we say: BTDT JerryBaumchen I completely agree with you that the press corps is getting dumber and more partisan by the day. I have also seen them ask some rather stupid questions. I can't argue with you there... But you also need to go thru and read the examples that these guys site. The as they said in the letter, the press is supposed to keep us informed on what the government is doing so we can hold them accountable. And despite promises to be the most open and accountable presidency ever, Obama has gone in the opposite direction. As you read the news and the examples quoted above, the power grabs by some of the regulatory agencies are reprehensible. People need to know what's going on. So yes, we have some real idiots in the press, but that doesn't mean shut them all out or get rid of freedom of the press. "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. The rest of the letter. Don't forget to follow the links in the letter. http://www.spj.org/news.asp?ref=1253 "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. The knack lies in learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss." Life, the Universe, and Everything -
Well, it's official. The anti-gun crowd will now want to ban 3D printers. Along with pressure cookers.... and what ever else... "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. The knack lies in learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss." Life, the Universe, and Everything

Courageous Americans confront illegal immigrants
jgoose71 replied to jclalor's topic in Speakers Corner
Ha! I just KNEW there was a reason why my favorite American foods are Chinese and Italian. Washed down with Guinness, of course. Yes, all of these things are good. And as long as they come in through the front door legally, hopefully we can keep out the Chinese version of human rights, the Italian legal system and Irish car bombs... There are some aspects of other countries I'm not to fond of, but some I am. Mind if I help myself to your Guinness? "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. The question really is do they have the mindset..... to actually use those weapons. A lot of "trained" CCW and LEO find themselves with out the mindset and when the adrenaline starts messing with them and that tiny little Animal brain takes over.... they freeze. Standing at the range in a static position killing paper is one of the worst ways to train.. it builds muscle memory in all the wrong ways. While you are correct that no one knows how they will react on a two-way shooting range until they find them selves on one, That is not the real question. Anyone who has taken a self defence class or spent over a minute in the military will tell you that portraying yourself as a hard target it the key to deterring an attack. Not quite sure a sign that says "gun free zone" will do that. On the other hand, I'm pretty sure a sign that says "all of our staff is armed and trained" no matter what the level of training is, or if they are even armes for that matter, might make a criminal think twice. Bad guys love soft targets.... If you think Target made this decisions while being worried about armed robbery, you are deluding yourself. This decision was made fully with their target customer in mind. They don't want to see armed people in the store. It really is as simple as that. And that is fine. At the same time I won't be going to Target any more. Being a family man I don't want to go into a store that begs to be robbed. "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. How is that even comparable? If somebody threatens your son with a gun I think you may have a point. If you are in store thats being held up I would think the best for your son would be to not get involved. Agreed. If I am unarmed, I can only hope that after he gets through robbing and shooting the clerk, he doesn't turn his attention to the "witnesses." Sometimes you don't have a choice if you want to be involved or not. "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. What about just giving the robber the few thousand $. Do you really think it's worth killing anybody over that amount of money? Would you kill a teenager to protect a corporations money? Now I know you think you are protecting the people he is threatening, but I would argue that shooting is always more dangerous for everybody around, than not. A Corporations money? No. But if it came down to a punk teenager pulling off an armed robbery or my 5 year old son, the choice is easy. These businesses do attract families, and you are counting on the kindness and compassion of a gang banger. What's to say he isn't supposed to be killing someone for some kind of initiation? With a 16" barrel you are going to want at least 57gr ammo. You might be able to get away with 52gr but I would try a couple rounds before you start buying in bulk. The problem with short barrels it that they don't necessarily allow you rifle to build up enough back pressure to cycle properly. I had an M-4 with a 10" barrel for a while and 52gr frangible rounds. It turned my gun into a single fire weapon. I would say go to a store with a range and give it a try. And don't buy .223 ammo for your AR. .223 while it will chamber and shoot, it's not exactly the same round. 5.56 NATO has a lot higher velocity and it's what your gun was designed for. If you shoot .223, your accuracy will suffer. Like wise, 5.56 NATO will wear out your .223 rifle at a slightly faster rate also, if you shoot lots that is. Supreme Court limits president's recess appointment power
jgoose71 replied to airdvr's topic in Speakers Corner
While you are correct that it was Mitch McConnell's quote, the supreme courts vote was unanimous. Since this hardly ever happens (everything seems to be 5-4 vote), one could say that the vote alone speaks volumes. "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. Bot listener for key phrases, another bot to connect your dots . . . you'll probably never make it to the human level. Unless, of course, somebody wants to be a jackass, which is always possible and probably your biggest danger. That said, it's ever present and you ARE on the list. Considering the only time I'm ever really on this forum as of recently is when I'm over here to kind of help pass the time, and if you think about some of the conversations that we've had.... well.... It's pretty safe to assume that quite a few people here are on the list..... Thank you, thank you, I will be here for another couple of months... Today is your lucky day! It's been leaked that the NSA might be recording all local and international calls out of some countries: http://dailycaller.com/2014/05/23/report-nsa-recording-almost-all-phone-calls-in-afghanistan/ Since I am currently hangin' here in Afghanistan with my AWCC (Afghan Wireless Communications Company) Cell phone, all you have to do is PM me you or your buddies phone number and I will give it a call. If you act now, I when they answer the phone, I will say "Dirka Dirka Muhammad Jihad IED bomb Alah Akbar." Guaranteed to make your number pop up on some NSA monitoring algorithm somewhere. And as a special bonus, I can also add such names as Ayman al-Zawahiri, Nasser Abdul Karim al-Wuhayshi, and Khalid al-Habib. With the mention of Al-Qaeda's current numbers 1,2, & 3 in the phone call, you may also get a drone circling your house and a possible no-knock entry by the FBI!!! Please keep in mind that my internet over here (if that is what you want to call it) is spotty at best. Please allow up to a couple of days for me to receive the PM. Edited: Sorry, I forgot al-Zawahiri is supposed to be dead. I will mention him anyway along with the other martyr Bin Laden.... "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. Racism: Democrats are just as racist as any other party
jgoose71 replied to regulator's topic in Speakers Corner
I have to call "Bull Shit" on this one. Martin Luther King was a Republican and believed in the individual. I did a google search and found nothing. Please provide a reference. And you will never convince me that blocking people together by policies based on race isn't racist. Please tell me a policy that the Democratic party has that doesn't break people out by race/gender/sexual orientation. Or an argument against a Republican policy that isn't based on race/gender/sexual orientation. Edited to add: and Assassinated by a Democrat. "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. Sounds Great, now can you mandate these changes in the BRIC countries? Until then you are shipping jobs overseas to countries that don't believe in this stuff. Racism: Democrats are just as racist as any other party
jgoose71 replied to regulator's topic in Speakers Corner
Keep towing that party line. You need the Republicans to be racist and hateful. It's not fixing the problem, and that is the problem. The Democrats don't see people as individuals. They see them as a voting block and treat them as such. And as a block you are telling them that Republicans are racists. And if they step out of line or question policies, they get attacked. So, how much farther did the charges go on Herman Cain after he stepped out of the election? Martin Luther King most Famously said "I have a dream where men will be judged by the content of their character, and not by the color of their skin." Unfortunately, things like Affirmative Action actually still ranked people according to the color of their skin. My dream is that one day, character will actually be taken into consideration. How did he do that? Did you see his press conference? When you spend more time talking about how good you are rather than the problem hat hand, that is called spin. I promise it will me more easy for you to recognise if and when a republican ever gets back into the whitehouse. I guess I'm not seeing the cover-up that has you concerned. While this administration hasn't tried to cover up this scandal as it has the others (That's probably where your confusion is coming in) the covering up of the extremely long wait times for veterans is what got us here. Point was covering up the problem didn't allow it to be fixed. It just got worse until it exploded and couldn't be hidden any more. 23 confirmed dead, up to 40 deaths under investigation. I would say at point it has a higher body count than Sandy Hook. "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. The knack lies in learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss." Racism: Democrats are just as racist as any other party
jgoose71 replied to regulator's topic in Speakers Corner
Without context that is a pretty silly question. I am sure that both races have the same inherent ability to aquire knowledge. However if it is harder for one race to get into an education system, or if the education system available to one race is worse than the one available to the other race, you will end up with one race "dumber" than the other race. If you think the U.S. school system is racist, take it up with the liberal democrats. They've ran it for the last 20 years. Fortunately though when I signed up my kids for school, they didn't have signs that said "black kids to the left, white kids to the right" but I guess according to you, they are on the way.... jgoose71 replied to regulator's topic in Speakers Corner
The Democrats are racists. I know Amazon has her vision on how it went, but I think this is a little more accurate. From 1975 to 2007, 13 Million southerners moved out of the south, meanwhile 19 Million Non-Southerners moved in. During this migration, you've seen the southern states move from Democratic to a more government with more Republicans. Here is a link to the gradual movements from Pew Social trends: http://www.pewsocialtrends.org/2008/12/17/u-s-migration-flows/ Now what you have is a Republican state that still has the "Stars and Bars" flying proudly on the flag. Wasn't hard for the Democratic party to twist the weak minded and re-write history after that. "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying.
