  1. It is a start I suppose. The party is not monolithic in it's beliefs and Harris went after the somewhat more moderate side. And she got smacked down when the majority refused to allow her to drag them to the far extreme with her.
  2. That's my practice. I join the conservative party whenever there is another chance to vote for the leader of the party.
  3. You may agree with his points but it is very telling that you chose to quote the one sentence that softens his main thrust in your reply.
  4. The main reason Liz Harris was expelled was for going too far. By going too far I mean that her attack dog that she lied about included some Rs in her outrageous claims. If she would have only attacked the enemy and not engaged in deliberate friendly fire she would have been given a pass.
  5. There is an extremist left, but it is not in control of the party and never has been. The whole idea of the D party being in thrall to extremists is a construction of right wing talk show media. See Joe's answer above.
  6. Here's a sign of the times. Under Kentucky law the weapon used in this weeks mass murder must be turned over to the state which is obligated to sell it so that it goes back into circulation. I shit you not, someone will own this as a souvenir because, well you tell me why....... https://www.npr.org/2023/04/12/1169557476/louisville-shooting-greenberg-rifle-auction-kentucky-law-gun-violence-us
  7. And I can see where a believer might feel that way. Unfortunately as I'm sure you understand that will do nothing to help the victim and little or nothing to prevent a recurrence.
  8. How hard is it to get Sodium from NaCl? Serious question IDK. After all we have oceans of H as well, but it is not free to use.
  9. I would rule that out except in the case of you or possibly Ron D.
  10. There would be some demand for that in the wingsuit crowd, but the Dacron not so much. My guess would be around 1K but I'm sure others would ask more. The used market seems to be pretty high now driven by the ungodly price of new canopies.
  11. The readers of the sarcasm should generally be able to decipher it upon a close and careful reading. If unsure and it seems outrageous you most likely need to read it again and think for awhile.
  12. I did not know of that affair. It is interesting. It involved a substantial cash gift. Nice to see that the political and legal class has since learned it's lesson and moved to more subtle accomodations and hospitality between friends.
  13. I agree with that. But it also doesn't matter because SCOTUS makes it's own rules and there ain't nuthin anyone can do about it.
  14. Thomas is in a posistion where he can choose to either please or displease his wife. Surely we can all agree that he has a personal interest in that.
  15. Elon had an interview and shared some of his Twitter pain yesterday. https://www.cnn.com/2023/04/12/tech/elon-musk-bbc-interview-twitter-intl-hnk/index.html
  16. Yup, it was all just a thank you for being part of the team. The real problem is that it helps to normalize the perception of bias. Is it purchased bias or is it inherent bias. How can anyone know after a while?
  17. The various churches have had the influence to carve out this kind of arrangement in about half of the states. I was not aware of this until now. But that also means that in the other half they do not. Since I've been asked to talk about Canada more I checked and here if a clergy fails to report suspected child abuse they can be jailed for the offense. But in the past we have had just as many pedophile priests as other places in the world. The same kind of scandals that you are familiar with.
  18. Canada is currently thanking it's southern neighbour's FBI for assisting it in making a small dent in the never ending supply of tools of war entering illegally to arm it's criminals. https://ca.finance.yahoo.com/news/police-bust-major-us-canada-163503597.html
  19. The Arizona Supreme Courts rules that child abuse reporting laws do not apply to clergy hearing confessions. Religious freedom. This ruling comes in a lawsuit against the LDS church. I'm sure the Catholic church is celebrating as well though. https://apnews.com/article/mormon-church-child-sex-abuse-e02ae4470a5a53cbeb9aa146ff2762ac?utm_source=homepage&utm_medium=TopNews&utm_campaign=position_05
  20. What could possibly go wrong, eh? I can only think of one nation where this could be a thing. A very special nation with guaranteed rights for all.
  21. Sort of like Greg Abbott announcing that he will work to pardon the protester murderer. Apparently it is his view that killing BLM protesters is righteous and just and that convicting someone of doing so is left wing overreach by a radical prosecutor and jury. I kid you not this is for real. He tweeted out his plans as soon as the conviction was announced. https://www.cnn.com/2023/04/09/us/greg-abbott-pardon-daniel-perry/index.html
  22. That makes you a remarkable woman. I don't recall any of the girls having the slightest interest in MAD Magazine. Tell me you bought National Lampoon too?
  23. Which is exemplified by those who crossed Trump by voting to impeach having all been purged from the ranks. At least they weren't killed, just kicked out. The mob wanted to hang Pence.
  24. 30th anniversary and resonance with those who call for armed struggle. Which is quite fashionable in certain circles at the moment. Of course it is all talk, or mostly talk. But even so it only takes a few committed foot soldiers ready to die for the cause to blow up a building or whatever. Waco is now a symbol. No accurate accounting of what really happened matters any more.
  25. When I was a child growing up we would play in the attic where a Lee-Enfield .303 was stored. One of my favourite things to hold and wonder over. There was no ammo up there thankfully.
