Superstition and religion are the only way they are capable of seeing the world. Change and new ideas are frightening and must be resisted in the scary world they inhabit.

The Nashville shooter is said to have had a shopping centre in mind as her first choice but rejected it because it was too well protected. But I do agree that turning Schools into armed camps is over the top, expensive, and potentially dangerous.

Lots of people have made and lost tons of real money dabbling in this pretend money. And there is no sign of it stopping. If you really like to gamble the volatility of this market is a wonderful sandbox to play in.

There is a lot of "History" to choose from. So people make choices. The people who go to Ft. Hood don't spend much time thinking about Hood and why his name was honoured, they just remember the name of the place they served. There is a ton of symbolism in choosing names. Hood has become a negative symbol, history is not being erased, it is being remembered by correcting an error. Almost all of the people who object to the change don't give a rat's ass about Hood, they just resist change because that's what people tend to do. You and they will get over it just like you got over the Washington Commanders thing.

I can't answer for Ron of course. I will say that these kind of events usually have more testosterone than estrogen involved. There has been a hint of gender fluidity here so I'm sure there will be a lot of trans bashing to come.

It does make sense and if it could be implemented it would help somewhat. However the ever beloved 2nd Amendment to the Constitution of the USA is fairly clearly written. I don't think that SCOTUS has interpreted it incorrectly at all. Until the political climate changes enough to allow some sort of adjustment to the constitution his proposal is really not possible. And that does not even begin to touch on the fact that his proposal relies on people being responsible. There are already many laws against shooting other people in anger or desperation. People are still going to be people and if they have what they see as the tool needed to carry out their desire right there beside them a small number of them are going to commit atrocious crimes. It truly is a small number, but it has a big effect. Again, the only answer is less guns, there is no way around that simple fact.

I'm not sure where it is. The only reason I know the name is from the mass murder that happened there a few years ago. Cavazos is not an English sounding name so obviously what you say will happen. It probably already has.

I hear your frustration loud and clear. The only real fix is less guns available and in the hands of less people. The problem is that I can see no realistic way of making that happen. As society gets more and more complex with people of marginal mental fitness seeing these horrible events as inspiration they will increase. As is already happening. We have crazies here in Canada as well and we also have mass shootings from time to time. I feel that the main reason we have less of them per capita is simply the larger barriers put up to acquiring the weapons. The US is not full of murderous raging people but the ones that are out there have been empowered to act with relative ease.

That is exactly the problem. Those people you lived with who can't be trusted? They are trusted anyway because the good old 2nd says they must be. When everyone is armed some will use their arms and there is no way of predicting who it will be. To get back to the example of Billy not one of us and very likely none of his friends would have predicted what happened.

People are responsible. Because they are people and they make mistakes. You can't just predict who will misuse their inanimate objects. I give you Billy Vance as an example.

I used that first and I would have used it no matter the victims. It was not a shot at christians, it was a shot at the hypocrisy of the gun lobby and the politicians they have a mutual support relationship with. The most unusual thing about this event is not the identity of the victims, but that of the shooter.

It's hard to believe your mind is that easily boggled. Try harder, you may begin to understand. All you have to do is just let them be, even if it seems weird. As long as they aren't hurting others. NewSpeak was about a society where diversity is not allowed. It was the opposite of what you are saying. It was about suppressing people who want to express themselves in a way not approved. People are still getting beat up for acting and looking in cross gender ways. That needs to stop. There is nothing dystopian about it. We are not living in Oceania. Yet. Edit TYT and TERFS would be great examples of newspeak. A convenient shorthand for expressing disapproval of nonconformity.
