  1. No none of the boring stuff for me. I do exciting stuff like driving to Grand Forks to pick up a load of macaroni and bring it back to Winnipeg before I take the weekend off. Sometimes I see moose when I drive south of Dryden Ontario on my way to Green Bay Wisconsin. Running from the law doesn’t work very well when you have to show ID And answer questions about what country do you have visited lately to get across the border four or five times a week.

If you Google John you can find lots of flattering stuff about his work as a professor and as a materials scientist. But nothing about SNL.
  3. Well then, good news for me. The investment I made Monday AM when I saw a good buying opportunity is almost back to the price I paid. Quite a ride this week has been.

A JAMA article on planning critical care for covid-19 patients. And yes, they mention death panels. Of course they don't call it that. They call it resource management. https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jama/fullarticle/2762996
  5. Ventilators don't actually work very well for people who's lungs are filled with fluid. A treatment called " extracorporeal membrane oxygenation for refractory hypoxemia " is often required. In other words, a machine to oxygenate the blood. Needless to say the capacity for this is very limited.
  6. I prefer to see that as pointing out the hypocrisy and inherent flaws in non-linear thinking.
  7. That's our Turtle alright. Always claiming to be misunderstood and always deliberately misunderstanding others. Although John is now American his humour and way of expressing himself is still very much English.

    covid-19

I've begun planning for the possibility of a basically lost season.
  9. Unless of course in three weeks hospital ICUs are starting to become overwhelmed with sick people who need respirators to keep them breathing in hopes of recovery. The whole idea at this point is to slow the rate of infection so that it does not hit all at once. That is why the best case scenario is that it will be a slow moving crisis. And that is why it will not be over in a few weeks. We don't want it to be over that quickly because that we can't handle that many at once. That's what is happening in Italy.
  10. Yes, this was just my way of agreeing with you.
  11. There is a ban. Like any such attempt to change the habits of a society overnight it will not be 100% successful overnight.
  12. I think it was a little more than a couple months but in that area. However, trying to use police state tactics to control it. That is not going to fly here. Also although it has greatly slowed down there it is not over. It still has a long way to go.
  13. If we’re lucky we will reach the peak of the crisis around then. There’s a possibility that maybe it will begin to get better shortly after that. Edit, I thought he was talking about the end of April. The beginning? Hahahahaha
  14. If that is really your prediction I would have to say you’re paying about as much attention as Trump has been.
  15. How long do you think it will last? Will a new POTUS be able to right the ship like Obama was able to?

Free testing might come to the United States! What a wonderful advancement to healthcare in the land of the uninsured.

    covid-19

That is of course true. But it is also true that the number of people who are going to suffer financially, some who can least afford it, is going to be even higher.

There is likely going to be a crisis in the DZ world. I can see a full season of limited or even no tandem revenue ahead. DZs with large outstanding bank loans are going to be in trouble. Even if a tandem shutdown doesn't happen large numbers of TIs are likely to decide that it's not worth the risk.
  19. Ask the Pope. Ask the brave women and men trying to keep access to abortion in the face of organized opposition from various branches of Christian churches. Christianity is highly patriarchal and that is a form of misogyny. It assumes that men are the head. And yes, it promotes ingrained prejudice against women.

    covid-19

I'm rapidly coming to see that the economic effects of this event are probably going to be more significant than the health effects.
  21. False news. And you can't prove anything anyway.

I wonder if the people who live near JFK airport will get used to the silence?
  23. Trump is a germophobe Who has always avoided touching people. Biden is an old-time politician who loves to press the flesh. Which one do you think would get seriously sick just before the election?
  24. Yes of course. We should all accept Christian misogyny because it comes in a milder form that that of some other religions. Or, we could just say no and give the girls the vote and all!
  25. I've been told by people I have reason to believe that it would appear most likely that we will all have exposure to the virus at some level sooner or later. And that the best guess is that 40% of us will get sick to some degree. The true death rate is unknown, but if it is as high as it seems it may be the number of fatalities could be very high. But not high enough to ruin the nation. If we can delay its spread a vaccine or an effective anti-viral drug may be found in time to limit the damage. Or, some of these estimates may be high. We just don't know yet.
