I'm starting to get a handle on what the right wing movement is really talking about when they voice the rallying call of being against the "Woke". It is all part of their fear of the changes in society leaving them behind as the culture changes away from the Euro-centric paternalistic system that has dominated for so long. On top of the huge upheaval being brought by the new information age and the power now wielded by those who run and participate in it. There is now serious talk in right wing circles about the need for American society to rally around one set of Christian Judeo faiths and to suppress any others who would dare to compete with it. This is rooted in the belief that the existing structure has brought prosperity and that the success is due to the superiority of the peoples who are racially similar to them. They sincerely believe and fear that the changes they can see coming in the racial and cultural mix that makes up America will result in a degradation of both moral and material standards that we enjoy. And yes, I do include the Canadian right wing in this as well. In the end it is nothing more and nothing less than that.

They not only own it, but they own it proudly and openly. They are celebrating it.

I have never once jumped with a full face helmet. I prefer to jump outdoors. I do use a modern open face hard shell after years of frappe hat.+

Hi Jerry, although I don't see why it's not Gerry. My mother named me Kenneth. The thing about that is I can be Kenneth, Kenny, or Ken. I don't mind any of them but I have learned to pay attention to which one I am called. Generally if someone calls me Kenneth it is because they don't know me and are reading from a form of some kind. Often they are, or suppose they are, some kind of authority figure. Starting of course with my parents. If I get called Kenneth there is a good chance I am in some sort of conflict with them. If someone calls me Kenny I immediately know that they want something from me. In normal times I am called Ken. Or gowlerk.

Well, his motivation and decision making are in a word, deplorable.

Huh? Yes they do. There is no law against vigilantism. To Quote Woody Guthrie: Tell me why does that vigilante man Carry that sawed off shotgun in his hand? Would he shoot his brother or sister down? I'm afraid so. Armed counter protesters are going to become even more common. All four of the people involved were white. What I wonder about is the victim who Rittenhouse shot because he was aiming a pistol at him. This was after he had already killed. If that person had not lost his nerve and managed to kill Rittenhouse first would he have become the "good guy with a gun" who saved the day from becoming worse? Or would he have been a murderer? So much of what happened involved chaos and luck, both good and bad.

In ten years or so almost all trucks available in this class will be EVs. People will cope and it won't be that hard to do. I agree with you here. People buy all kinds of things that they don't really need, but want. Like....parachutes for example.....and they will continue to do so. What people need is irrelevant, what they buy is relevant.

I have been paying attention to the reports of the trial daily. I am only surprised that there was not a hung jury. There was no way that he was going to be convicted. As crazy as it is, he did not do anything illegal.

I am also an atheist. But I definitely have beliefs. A belief system is not the same thing as a religion. Atheism is also a belief system.

Public and private schools both claim to be primarily about education. But they are both actually about indoctrination first and education second. The best private schools exist so the the upper classes can separate their children from the lower classes and teach them that they are better and that more is expected from them. The way our society works we need both of these systems.
