I'm not sure how Gaetz as AG is worse than Trump as POTUS. Seriously the USA has already hit the bottom and has nowhere to go but up. You survived Jefferson Beauregard Sessions who was not only amoral but also competent and knew how to get things done. Gaetz will not be competent enough to do much damage. His core skills don't fit the task. The hyperbole is getting a little overblown now. Yes, it is horrible. No it is not a existential crisis.

Cake in the mouth and stomach. Cake in the hand and more in the fridge. Why not have both? Trump and Musk et al do.
-
It's pretty hard to see how that could happen given the decentralized state by state control of the process. I mean, beyond the Gerrymandering and discouraging people from voting that is already going on.

SCOTUS is mostly conservative, but not MAGA. There is some hope of that branch curbing the worst excesses.

Some of them get it -- Sullivan Before the Election

The reality is that very little good can come from pandering to the most base instincts of the lowest common denominator. It may be popular, but it is very easy to take it too far and all indications are that is what will happen. Mass deportations are not going to happen because it is both too hard and too expensive to accomplish. But hundreds of thousands and possibly millions are going to be terrorized anyway for no good reason. It will make some people feel good. In a similar vein there will be tariffs because that's easy. Will they "work"? You know they won't bring jobs to America, but they will start a trade war. They will cause price increases and the treasury can probably use the tax revenue. I wonder how long till US citizens are required to show proof of vaccinations or be quarantined in order to enter Europe? Revolution without a cause is a phrase that comes to mind. Much ado about nothing. -

I would agree with you on that. The law would seem to be an ineffective knee jerk reaction. I have always considered Oz to be very much a nanny state on many issues. A quick search turns up a story in Canadian media about the first man reaching martyr status under this law. https://www.ctvnews.ca/world/self-described-nazi-becomes-first-person-jailed-in-australia-for-performing-outlawed-salute-1.7102769 -
This whole thing is like looking at a collaboration between Dali and Picasso.

The link here is to a long but well written piece that does a good job of putting forward most of the explanations for the rejection of Harris and the Ds mostly agreeing with what our more right wing posters have been expressing. Along with many of the reasons why Trump is going to be so bad for the nation. Some of you might find it interesting enough to read. https://samharris.substack.com/p/the-reckoning -
Isn't this a tactic of Trump's? Never admit a mistake.

Isn't there something about the House controlling the purse strings? Not even Trump can make Congress members vote in a way that will ensure their defeat in 2026. -
Those are all laudable goals if he is sincere in pursuing them. There are other people available who could also take the Justice Department in that direction but have better records and abilities. It isn't necessary to make Gaetz the AG except to make a statement. And to get him out of congress. Most likely he will be a sacrificial lamb and never become AG. Which is better than he deserves.

Matt Gaetz is not and has never been a senator.

I would commit to a paid subscription. But I suspect that model would cause the membership base to shrink even more. The original mission of the site seems to be no longer valid as we all know. SC is not what brought me here originally. Skydiving, incidents, camera, and the rigging forums were and they are nearly dead. I only have a limited amount of energy to devote to swimming upstream, but if a plan emerges I will participate.

I have learned to be a little subtle at it. Occasionally I slip up.

I don't know where you live, but where I live most people made appointments and lined up en masse to get mNRA vaccines as soon as they could and were very glad of it. You probably look down your nose at most people and call them sheep. Most people are actually a lot smarter than you give them credit for.

I agree Wendy. But on the other hand it is telling that saying a person resembles a high ranking POTUS adviser is universally considered to be an attack rather than a compliment.
-
Eugenics will be next. After the homeless are rounded up they can be sterilized. At least they won't be pressured to get vaccinated. Let the bells of freedom ring out!
-
Sigh....it's function is what makes it a vaccine. You have called it a "treatment" which it clearly is not. If it is not a vaccine in your mind and it is not a treatment in anyone's mind , what pray tell should it be called?
-
Have you ever heard of influenza vaccine? Is it a vaccine?
-
How charming.
-
I'm not sure why you think an mRNA vaccine is not a vaccine but there is a lot of evidence that it functions as one. I know you will carry your personal anger and resentment over the extreme pressure put on you and others to make the sacrifice of taking it for the common good despite your beliefs to the grave with you. I'm not even going to try to have that argument again. But the fact is that it is an effective measure that attenuated the epidemic and allowed society to get close to normalcy far faster and with far less death than otherwise. Without it we would be in a far worse place right now.
