hmm, I got it used probably 4 years ago, this is the second battery, but the first one didnt melt. It also gave me some time of "reduced capacity" before it just shit like this one (i.e. I had the RED replace battery indicator prior to AFTER failure) The ups is probably pretty old, but APC builds some pretty tough shit, I've worked with APC stuff probably 10 years old and never seen this.. actually holding the cameye II for a few seconds will turn the camera off (atleast the newer Sonys) ... I turn mine on at the beginning of the day and leave it on (with the switch) and control power from the cameye the rest of the day. Ohh yea, I jump a PC350, it works just fine, everything. FGF #??? Made a recent post saying that my computer got rebooted ... well, seems that the battery in the UPS decided to give out and just runnning a battery test caused the same thing to happen again, . So I opened the UPS to check the battery and it looks like it has started melting, the temp inside was pretty hot, and the battery is now leaking from the damage.. ANy idea why the hell this happened? Does anyone who knows about these things think it's worth trying to put a new battery in, .. It's a Smart-UPS 700, so not the cheapest version around, batteries arnt to expensive, but I clearly dont want this same thing to happen again, I cant imagion that it's entirely safe to have a battery go into this condition. Glad that you all can laugh and joke over this serious matter... I feel as though, ... hell, I dont know how I feel other than STILL SICK FOR A FUCKING WEEK AND A HALF... DAMNIT!!!!!! I come home from work to find my linux box, which had over 1 1/2 YEARS UPTIME WITHOUT A REBOOT rebooted! I look around the house, doesnt even look like the power went out... Seems that my trusty APC UPS just cycled a few times (there are 3 attempted boots before it finally got to complete it in the logs, looks like in boot sequence and then another "scorpion syslogd 1.4.1: restart" entry and it does it all again.. ) ... I feel lucky that all those half assed boots didnt fuck something up (like the software RAID running on it) ... Not even any of the typical log entries saying that UPS is running on battery... edited to add: yes, I'm kinda a geek and this stuff is serious to me! FGF #??? I miss the sky... Two neptunes (one wrist and one helmet) and a protrack (helmet) .. Love having the neptune as a visual, been jumping it as a visual since around jump 40, also done 3 night jumps with it and love the backlight. Kinda nice that it keeps logs too.

I was scared to death of every jump I did, until my 19th jump.. I went to the DZ (san diego) many times without jumping through out those jumps, and every time I did go up I literally had to force myself.. I hated going up, but I just couldnt get away from it either.. Just think of getting gear , getting in the plane, and jumping and force yourself to smile, it's amazing what a smile can do with your fears Were you the one hanging out by the mock-ups saturday talking about renting gear? As far as above comment about tunnel, a few of us carpool up to perris / elsinore every weekend for the most part, if you dont wanna drive there. FGF #??? I miss the sky... We still have a few slots open in our 30x30 tent. .We are only booking 10 people into the tent (although more will be welcome when we decide to throw a tent party or somthing ) .. Gonna have a couch, (gonna find a way to power) a TV to review jumps, room to pack (duh) , SIDES, we are trying to secure a packer for our tent right now (one of the members knows a couple of them that may be interested) , the tent is going to be home of the LM vs. McDuck butt contest , my B-Day party on saturday night , it's gonna be a kick ass place to call home for a few days. asking $30 per head PM me for more details. What issues do you have with the DivX codec? I just got the programs to make DivX after talking to users of Macs etc. and compatibility didnt seem to be a problem (one reason I didnt wanna use windows media) .. Ok, two things Who is flying into Atlanta? anybody? Would be nice to figure out how to get to the boogie from the airport, other than taxi or rental car (by myself anyway) .. -- or -- I would be interested in making a road trip from San Diego direction, make a few stops along the way, I got 2 weeks off for this thing.
