  1. I'm finding the opposite to be true right now, mabey I just need to get used to it, but it just seems like the lines are less secure from getting inside eachother when they hang off the side of the bag, especially when putting into the container and closing it... ? ... I've only had inboard stows until now, jumping my new rig with outboards for the first time tomorrow.. FGF #??? I miss the sky... 2. Has anyone who owns a Vector changed the line stows on their D-Bag, .... Mabey I'm just not used to it, but it just seems alot harder to keep the lines neat when the rubber bands are on the ends of the D-Bag... Also seems like the lines are at a greater potential of getting too close / around eachother when closing the container with that location, .. Really dont need any bag locks anytime soon.. Any idea why they choose to have the bands at the end of the bag vs. near the center of the bag? Any tips? Or should I just shut up and get used to it? FGF #??? I miss the sky... 4. I can afford the expensive hobbies I do because I have no real responsibilities and make a decent amount of money.. I'm sure when i get a family things will change a bit
  5. Well, one DZ was a normal airport, while the other is not, so I guess that could have something to do with it :) To be fair, i'm going to point out other things at that DZ which I think show a good safety attitude.. This DZ is usually VERY good about second passes, I have had more second passes at this DZ than anywhere else and I've done a pretty small percentage of my jumps there.. Never heard a complant about someone requesting a second pass either. Really like that.. Along with that I have never heard people get vocal when it comes to telling the group before to leave, .. They just seem very good about spots and keeping good seperation.. Something that you dont see everywhere.. Overall, I do think this DZ is a safe place to jump. I have also seen the instructors give what I think is pretty good time to the students, I've seen them go into more detail about the jump and how the equipment works with tandems than any other DZ that I've payed attention to these things at... I have recommended this DZ in the past to friends talking about jumping because I do think they take good care of the students. I post this because I dont just wanna point out nothing but wrongs, i'm sure every DZ has things that are not perfect. FGF #??? I miss the sky... 6. Aye, I dont remember specifics on that, but next time I guess I'll just keep my mouth shut because I couldnt possibly know anything with only 200 jumps (little over 100 at the time) ... I think I remember a little, and it had to do with information that was asked about neptunes, and I basicly said how you can prevent your neptune from turning itself off / freaking out in freefall on a night jump... Knowing about neptunes and having used them on night jumps before, I had a better answer than Ack! Neptunes are unreliable at night! which is what a few people were stating. I have never claimed to have more experience than you. I definately am not trying to knock you here, and I'm sorry if that is the attitude you get from me. I definately respect you, I've talked to you in person a few times, and I have always felt that you were someone that I could approach for good answers to any questions I may have safety or otherwise. ... But I do know what the rules are (they happen to be in my SIM) and I've got enough jumps to read that. I've also been to night jumps that were conducted more correctly if comparing them against the regulations in place. This thread is about DZ culture as related to safety.. In case A) People were requried to have certian things for the jumps, inconvenient to say the least for some. In case B) Some safety items were blown off because it really is inconvenient and unreasonable to expect everyone to have lighting or for the store to stock it. I guess I just see a difference in culture here, but mabey I should wait to make my judgement until I have more jumps. This does seem to be getting out of hand.... I never intended to bash any DZ or person... I was just simply trying to state in my origional post that there is a difference between DZs because someone asked, and this was just an example I had at the top of my head. Sorry it turned into such a mess. And for the record, I think that same DZ has a great student program (from talking to people who learned there and comparing notes on our training). But then again I have not seen enough student programs or worked with it to really know anything about what I'm talking about.. We will see each other around FGF #??? I miss the sky... 7. I guess that makes it OK then. These night jumps were planned for a while, requirement could have been posted that jumpers would have to follow FARs and that getting proper lighting might not be a bad idea.. Not only because of the rules, but because it makes the jump safer which is something that we should all give a shit about. What the hell is that supposed to mean? What did I say that gave you the impression that I did not pay attention to any safety breafing and what does that have to do with violating FARs with improper lighting or safety culture of a DZ? I didnt break any rules put out at any safety briefing during that jump, only thing I did do stupid was not wear goggles but last time I checked there is no rule which states that is a requirement (although it's a hell of a good idea). I was one of just a couple people there who were lit up and performing a night jump in accordance with published regulations since as stated by others I dont think chem lights (which seemed to have flown off many jumpers before they got under canopy BTW) qualify for proper night jump lighting. 8. Pretty sure the PC55 is the one that doesnt have the ability to put a wide angle lens on it... I'd personally pick up a PC1000 before they are gone forever FGF #??? I miss the sky... There are 10 types of people in the world... those who understand binary and those who don't.
  9. I would think it very possible that the DZO doesnt even know this happened, I would definately contact the DZO w/ the video. FGF #??? I miss the sky... There are 10 types of people in the world... those who understand binary and those who don't.
  10. i dont jump a RSL anymore, and i dont intend to start doing it again, but I am getting the RSL re-installed on my Mirage because someone is going to be using it and they feel more comfortable with it installed.... That being said, my intention is to disconnect it when I jump that rig and attach it to the cut away housing... Have not seen anyone say this is bad yet, but i'd sure like to know any arguments against it. (other than the "just use the RSL" arguement). Nate FGF #??? I miss the sky... 11. That's always a good question, and to be 100% honest I wasnt exactly the safety token child myself considering that the night jump I did there was without goggles, ... I choose to jump because I love night jumps, we got lucky and nobody got hurt, but that doesnt make what any of us did right. Like I said in my other post alot of the safety attitude has to come from the jumpers themselves, so in that way I was part of the failure to make things as safe as possible myself. FGF #??? 13. Aye, .. I stand corrected about the specific type of light required.. Show me some chem lights that are visible for 3 miles and I'll agree a strobe is not required.. But even the super bright chem lights tend to not be so bright by the time aircraft exit is completed, they really dont burn bright for very long, after a matter of minutes they are dull compared to the startoff. Dont think I've ever seen a chemlight advertised as being visible for 3 miles either, mabey I just missed that part.. I've got a few of them at home, I'll take a look Bottom line, violation or not, it's a safety item that I've seen some DZs enforce, and others not, which shows that different DZs do have different safety attitudes.. This is a very specific example given, and I would not judge a whole DZs attitude just on how they do night jumps, but this example shows the point I try to make. Outside of night jumps some DZs are big on gear checks, others are not, some will have jumpers who know what the person before them is doing and pulling at and remind people of seperation, some DZs you ask the people in front of you where they are going to pull and they look at you funny like you just asked them if they planned on going to mars, some DZs take care of their planes, others just dont. There is alot of things that make up the safety overall culture.. Alot of it isnt even the DZ, it has to do with the attitude of the people who jump there, we are after all responsible for our own safety every time we decide to do this stuff
  14. I never mentioned any particular DZ, and I've done night jumps outside of my "home" area.. I intend to keep which DZ it is that I commented on to myself because I dont think it's important in this thread. By posting what you did post I get the feeling that you think I'm talking about a local DZ, and it also probably means that you have probably seen exactly what I'm talking about with safety attitudes. It's not the "whether they sell them or not" that I'm commenting on.. When you do night jumps it is a FAR (REQUIREMENT, NOT OPTIONAL) that you will have some things such as a strobe light. By ignoring such a simple safety REQUIREMENT I feel that safety has been simply swept under the carpet.. I dont know about you, but I kinda like seeing other people on night jumps, and I have not developed any kind of advanced night vision to see a non-lit jumper under canopy.. I dont think it's too much to expect from a DZ if they want to claim to be a safe place to jump is it? Whole point of my post was to show that there is a difference between the safety culture at different DZs, and there are times that this becomes more evident. FGF #??? I miss the sky... 15. PC-1000 no longer in production... Although I'm sure you can still find them .. But yea, bad ass camera.
  16. It's a small market, if they going to make any money they have to charge... Some of them are not too bad though (i.e. Good Stuff) FGF #??? I miss the sky... There are 10 types of people in the world... those who understand binary and those who don't.
  17. I personally dont think this thread is going to be damaging to the DZ at all.. They followed policy, someone is trying to get special treatment and they said no.. It's their right to do so. It's going to take more than this to tarnish their reputation. FGF #??? I miss the sky... There are 10 types of people in the world... those who understand binary and those who don't.
  18. The first chat session proves nothing, and the second doesnt either.. Why would they lie about you wanting O2, it really adds nothing to the issue which you started this thread for.. A no refund policy is a no refund policy, you probably even signed something saying that you understood said policy, just like you signed forms saying that you know the sport can kill you... Sounds like they also explained pretty well how things work if you "take a break" or whatever, having to fill open slots when they are available during future class groups. Being there temporarily and buying a package was something you choose to do, mabey not all that wise. If they dont wanna give your money back and they have that policy, well, it looks like your shit outta luck. To expect a business to change their policy and then try to give them a black eye because they hold true to the policy is just stupid. Hopefully this alone doesnt turn you away from the sport, however I cant find any fault with the operation from this thread. FGF #??? I miss the sky... 21. NOt gonna get into this thread much because I really dont have time for speakers corner battles, but being from South Dakota myself, I just wanted to say that I am proud to be from there, the first state to take a step in what I believe is the right direction
  22. Great thread... You must stay in contact with them as long as they are around, because you will regret it if you dont after it's too late.. They are probably thinking of you all the time, return the favor. FGF #??? I miss the sky... There are 10 types of people in the world... those who understand binary and those who don't.
  23. Perfect responce to an email which should have never been sent out... I am one person who will not support any vendor who helps her by giving her gear, I think it's a black eye enough already. As far as her wanting to return, well, if she wants to return I'm OK with that, hopefully her ******* boyfriend will not be the instructor, but she can figure out her own finances, take care of her kid, and then figure out how to afford this just like the rest of us.. I know alot of people that would like to jump but dont wanna put in the $$$ to make it happen, I wanted to jump and coughed up the thousands of dollars to make it happen, .. It's a choice, how bad you want it? Hope her boyfriend gets busted on this whole disability thing, that shit irritates the crap out of me. We all have to pay for assholes like that. FGF #??? 24. Awsome pictures, looks like a great place to jump
  25. Good stuff is an awsome skydiving movie... really like the junk dives, jumping out with cars, the commericals this guy has made are awsoem, the plane 2 plane jump, .. just a ton of good stuff. For base (and some skydiving) definately "Keen 'N Able" which can be found at jimmyhalliday.com ... I think there is also a trailer for it on skydivingmovies.com FGF #??? I miss the sky...
