You dont wanna see me just in my underarmor though, it's tight... FGF #??? I miss the sky... There are 10 types of people in the world... those who understand binary and those who don't.

A Not so Happy New Year at Skydive San Diego
nate_1979 replied to skymiles's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Was just looking over the DZ reviews, since I was editing mine.. Ran accross a review by the now owner (again) Buzz.. Thought it was interesting. Now it's just too bad Andy got pushed out.. As the review says, it was a great place to jump. FGF #??? I miss the sky... There are 10 types of people in the world... those who understand binary and those who don't. -
A Not so Happy New Year at Skydive San Diego

What happened at SSD just sucks. I am one of the jumpers that will not jump there anymore... I just got to spend a couple wonderful days up at Perris and have started trying to get into the flow there, .. I'm going to miss San Diego, but thankfully most of my friends who are also leaving have made the decision to go that much easier. Andy, you are the shit.. You are one of the few that was willing (however hesitant I'm sure you must have been) to give me the second chance that I took after my AFF 3 which resulted in some bowling speeches, making you one of the few people that allowed me to experience and enjoy this sport to the extent that I do now. You have changed that dropzone SO MUCH since I started jumping, it has really become a great place, and like some of the others that have posted here I will help you in any way I can to help get the new operation off the ground. Infact, I will consider it an insult if you dont give me the opertunity to pound a few nails or something We had a great group of jumpers to hang out with at San Diego, it's sad to see the "family" broken up like it is now. When andy gets his new operation off the ground we gotta have a Skydive San Diego Jumpers Reunion Boogie or something FGF #??? I miss the sky... Ok, I'm sure it's on here somewhere, but I did a couple searches and my dumb ass cant find anything I am trying to export video in Premier, I need it to be MAC friendly (which leaves windows media formats out I believe) .... I'm not terribly concerned how big the file is (4 minute video, less than 100mb is fine) ... How can I get some decent friggin quality out of this program? Everything gets real "stringy" when the action picks up with anything I have tried... I've seen nice videos posted, so, what settings do you guys (and gals) use for export? FGF #??? I miss the sky... I've used two different neptunes (at different times) on my night jumps, and I have never had an issue... If you had your alarms set for 5k, and it died around 5.1k, I would be willing to guess that you had your audible alarms turned on on the neptune you were using for a visual. If your alarms and backlight are both turned on at the same time, the unit will freak out , seems battery cant supply that much juice. I do believe that this is in the manual. If you didnt have the audibles set, well, that sucks general comment, I also wear a neptune for an audible, had no problems with that or the protrack that i also wear.. FGF #??? I miss the sky... Ya know what was funny is that me and a bunch of jumpers from Skydive San Diego went out to eat a few weeks back, ... One of the jumpers there, a man with almost 1000 jumps under his belt, didnt know what a Whuffo was... It was one of the funniest things ever! It was best listening to him explain what he thought a Whuffo might be as we had him guessing what it ment.. lol FGF #??? I miss the sky... How many lives have been saved by AADs ?
nate_1979 replied to cocheese's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
That's what I always said too, and I like having one, but now that I'll be jumping my old rig (which doesnt have a cypress anymore) while I send my new one back to the shop, well, it's all good FGF #??? Choosing canopy colors - packing an issue?
nate_1979 replied to natecoon's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I jump a all white canopy w/ black ribs, love it -
My cypres just expired, do I turn it on to jump ?
nate_1979 replied to buzi's topic in Gear and Rigging
Not illegal, but it is illegal to jump with a rig that has an out of date AAD in it, whether it is turned on or off, in the US. FGF #??? I miss the sky... There are 10 types of people in the world... those who understand binary and those who don't. -
OK, took it to Elsinore and Perris today, we concluded that the laterals need to be lengthened (around 1/2 inch) ... The MLW is the correct length from what was being told to me ... The leg straps in those pictures were tight, the pads dont quite touch. We tried "lifting the rig, rotating leg straps " just not a lot of room to move things around there, not really any way to make the rig sit higher on my back, it's pretty tight. While at Perris I tried on a V3 with a 1 " shorter MLW, and a slightly more than 1/2 inch longer lateral, and it brought the straps more to my front, however the hip rings were too high, ... This is how we figured what to do.. Guess I will contact RWS on Jan 2nd to figure it all out, just put my old Mirage G4 back into the loft to get my reserve repacked so I can start jumping that again. Thanks for the help guys (gals) , FGF #??? I miss the sky... There are 10 types of people in the world... those who understand binary and those who don't.

Yet another reply to a post that is not addressing the topic. Unless your just plain daft, (which you may be for all i know) you'll notice i said that's what i would do, not what everyone else should do. I never told anyone where to deploy, just where i would. You said that's what you would do, however Bill said: And I personally dont think that this is good "blanket" advice. Clearly if you are on a huge jump that you already planned on pulling low, 2000ft can be safe, but I wouldnt recomend that for a normal jump. Especially if you get to 2k, then wave off, then pull, your now getting damn close to cypress altitudes.. FGF #??? I miss the sky... LOL I'll see what I can get for more pictures, and I'll try what your saying, but the chest strap is pretty tight in those pictures. I know it wont fit like my other rig, which is broken in, and a Mirage G4 Edited to add: Nobody wants to see me wear that rig in a speedo FGF #??? I miss the sky... The laterals are the "pads" at the bottom of the container right? I'm thinking the same thing. FGF #??? I miss the sky... There are 10 types of people in the world... those who understand binary and those who don't.

My biggest concern is the position of the emergency handles, they are in a spot that is hard to see when you look down at them, and seem like they might be a little difficult to get to. Yes, got skyhook FGF #??? I miss the sky... There are 10 types of people in the world... those who understand binary and those who don't.

This location is not unique to the V3, I like the placement better than others because the display is not subject to abuse when setting the rig down on the backpad. I don't think the difficulty is worth a complaint. Agree with you I dont mind the location, I just never thought it would be hard to get to, but it seems normal, and I'm ok with that FGF #??? 2 times, 1st was a "spinning on my back line over" (jump 56) 2nd was a step through that I was not comfortable with. (jump 90 something) FGF #??? I miss the sky... There are 10 types of people in the world... those who understand binary and those who don't.

Cant say that I'm a big fan of telling a "newer" jumper to be pulling at 2k feet Considering that is the hard deck for many of us. I've pulled at 2.5k for larger jumps, and cant say that i'm much a fan of that either (open canopy at 1.6k on one of them, 1.8 on the other two) , pulling at 2k would have put me at almost 1000 feet open canopy , wow... As far as going low in the formation, shit, follow the plan. Simple. If you are low, your buddies on the dive with you should hopefully realize that you are not there, and I know that when I realize someone has gone low, I keep track of where they are, and I watch for where they track (since they will track before the me / rest of us) ... It's not hard to see people below you when tracking, dont get on top of anyone, and check your airspace before opening, guess I'm not seeing the difficulty of this concept. FGF #??? I miss the sky... The wide at the sholders thing seems true once it passes over my sholders, on the pic from the back view you can see that they dont look wide but they spread out at quite an angle making it really wide when it gets to the chest level ? I dunno. FGF #??? I miss the sky... There are 10 types of people in the world... those who understand binary and those who don't.

The chest strap in those pictures is *tight* , I used to have a little slack in it, my chest strap has never been "needed" to hold the rig in place while just wearing it on the ground, seems to take a load just walking around with it now. And I dont know many people who walk around with tight chest straps Usuallly not necessary. FGF #??? I miss the sky...
