hey, that's my birthday FGF #??? I miss the sky... There are 10 types of people in the world... those who understand binary and those who don't.

Ok, your right, I only have 50 jumps, I dont know as much as you all with way more jumps, I do however pay attention to things such as wind speeds etc and I know that if I get out too soon and have some wind to fight I dont wanna be super far away from DZ.. But your right, I still have tons more to learn, and yes I do take into consideration the rest of the load. I dont feel that I've ever "screwed over" my load, usually as soon as the green is on I'm out the door if solo. I think one of the main reasons I wrote that post was actually in reply to someone who said you should start spotting on green, .. I personally think you should have already cleared the spot by the time the light turns green, and if I'm first out that's what I do.. The big thing for me though is that I am never going to be one of those people who just blindly jumps out of the plane because the lights green (unless I'm jumping with others and am not in a position to look myself), screw that.. Happened once, me and a buddy doing a two way, almost the last out, I was working on climbing out when my buddy noticed a now red light come on and told me to come back in... Spot still seemed good, still not sure why the red came back on, but figure the pilot had some reason behind it.. I also tend to check that light now as the last thing I see before the actual jump.. Also want to comment on what was said earlier in the post, saying that the Red means get ready to spot... Usually if I'm the first out, as soon as the red comes on I open the door and start spotting immediately, glancing at the lights watching for green when I think it's good.. I may not have alot of experiance, but I know where I feel comfortable jumping in relation to the DZ and I have waited a few seconds on green, it's just something one of my coaches went over with me and I have taken his advice to not let anyone else tell me where to exit. Go ahead and yell GO! and I'll ignore you.. If you want to exit before me because you like the spot that I dont, just say so I'll move.. But i've found that usually the yellers arnt paying attention to the spot themselves.. FGF #??? I miss the sky... The time it takes to disconect the RSL could kill you. You would be much better just cutting away. If you have a collision under canop you will be LOW It is just such a case where you WANT an RSL. I don't like RSL's, but if you are going to have one, don't disconnect it. You are making the thing useless in the place that it works best...LOW. After reading all of your opinions, I have rethought through the procedures that I had mentioned before, and changed them ... That's one reason that this site rocks, you guys know stuff that I never think of.. Learn something new here almost every day FGF #??? I miss the sky... Got one hop-n-pop at 2.6k .. Ugh, that was low.. Person before me actually had a hop-n-chop FGF #??? I miss the sky... There are 10 types of people in the world... those who understand binary and those who don't.

makes sense, never really considered that... Thanks for the advice Bill FGF #??? I miss the sky... There are 10 types of people in the world... those who understand binary and those who don't.

There is only two situations that I think I would consider a RSL disconnect, 1) a spinning mal, which I think is less of a concern at my wing loading but still a possibility.. If I felt that I would be less than stable when cutting away, and that I had proper altitude, I would disconnect. The second would be a collision under canopy, depending on the situation... I think that it is very highly unlikely that I will encounter such a situation, however it makes me feel better to know that if I do encounter something I have put some thought into my full procedures under different situations, including a possible RSL disconnect. I actually drill disconnecting my RSL sometimes, I do it sometimes immediately after opening along with my other simulated handle pulls.. Who knows what i'll really do in a real situation, but I think that if I get in a situation that i decide I dont want the RSL it'll go away as soon as the thought crosses my mind.. I have the benifits of an RSL and feel confident that I can get rid of it if I feel the situation is not a good time for RSL deployment FGF #??? I miss the sky... Edited because first post was a bit rough... But, you have no right IMHO to say that those people died in vain, that's pretty messed up actually.. They died fighting for their country, whether you agree with why they were fighting or not.. That is NOT in vain no matter how you feel. FGF #??? I miss the sky... Ugg, I'm a bit confused by this, would like it stepped down to a dumber level for me if you would ... So, if you have one PD canopy, and one Precision canopy, and they are both published as "200 sq. ft" they would be different sizes? And which would be larger / smaller? FGF #??? I miss the sky... As someone posted earlier, the biggest thing with the Vigil that people still seem to have a problem with is the lack of testing the unit will receive after you get it.. Just a question, how would you guys handle it if someone was to want to send their unit in for checks (say every 4 years like the cypress)... Would that type of service be made available and what would you charge for such a service.. Seems someone could buy a vigil, voluntarily send the unit in every four years, but not hit that 12 year experation assuming the unit continued to function within specifications? FGF #??? I've always done the leg straps first, however someone recently pointed out to me that I should do the chest first for the reason that it's easier to forget the chest strap, so now I am starting to do the chest strap first, but sometimes I still get the legs first.. I've gotten a couple time outs, however it's usually just a one time thing.. I think it's gonna be kind of hard to catch a problem on traceroute when it just doesnt stick around.. Unless some of you are having constant problems? This was taken right after a timeout I earlier.. Looks like one miss @ hop #8, and for some reason the actual dz.com (hop 10) doesnt respond at all when i do it FGF #??? I miss the sky... Well, in order to detect something that makes no noise you would have to create a signal or noise of some sort yourself... so.... Not sure how much more can be said, dont wanna get classified, so I shut up now From the information released, I would have to assume that this accident really could not have been avoided, and it could have happened to anybody.. Just very unlucky... FGF #??? I miss the sky... There are 10 types of people in the world... those who understand binary and those who don't.

As a fellow submarine sailor, my sincerest condolences and prayers go out to the family, friends, and his shipmates who served with him.. A submarine is a very small crew, and the loss of one person will most definately be felt through out.. Fair Winds and Following Seas V/R MT2(SS), USN FGF #??? I miss the sky... This post isnt entirely related to this thread, but I decided to use the thread anyway I just read an article from 1959 (20 years before I was born ) about skydiving... I just decided to do a search for Jacques Istel as he was quoted many times in the article.. It was a very interesting article, the history of this sport is quite amazing. But, decided to post here because of some of the things said in the article, I couldnt help but smile reading some of it.. Jacques really had a big outlook for this sport, some of the quotes from the article "Jacques Istel, shown here about to land, predicts sport's popularity in the U.S. will match skiing", "With proper education and encouragement, the American public should take up this sport as readily as motercycling. It's less expensive and much safer" , ... Good stuff, great article from the May 1959 Popular Mechanics FGF #??? I miss the sky... I just got my hands on a May 1959 Popular Mechanics which has an article in it "Bail out for fun?" ... The article kicks ass FGF #??? I miss the sky... There are 10 types of people in the world... those who understand binary and those who don't.

That's what I had always heard.... They will look just fine and then *snap*... Edited to add: Of course, a couple lines snapping just really doesnt worry me too much.. Prefer that it doesnt happen, but i'm flying a boat so I'm sure I'd be alright My steering lines arnt HMA so I dont have to worry about the HMA steering line snap on landing that I had heard about (rumor?)
