No cool stories? I guess we have not been jumping enough, let me mess up a few more of your jumps FGF #??? I miss the sky... There are 10 types of people in the world... those who understand binary and those who don't.

No rubber ducky, but yea... The winds are pretty high out here... I was flying sideways on my base, almost no penetration on final, but it worked... From what I hear, they took some of the trees down to improve the conditions, I didnt get too much turbulance on the landings today.. Not sure what the windsocks are rated at (I think 15mph?) but they were pretty solid yes, I know every island is surrounded by water, but it's not my normal view for a jump, so to me it's something to really take in seriously! My mom was the one who wanted to do a skydive, and got me started in it... So, she really cant say anything But, my parents understand, and ask me about it every time I talk to them... Some of my other relatives think that it's crazy, but they just tell me to stay safe.... Guess I'm lucky FGF #??? I miss the sky... Hmm, didnt see you, but I did make it to the Pacific Skydiving Center today, .... Had a couple fun jumps, the view out here is amazing, that's all I got to say about that.... I will be going to Skydive Hawaii on Tuesday and Thursday evenings for their "sunset" loads that they do on those days.. SCUBA tomorrow, ... Good times to be had FGF #??? I miss the sky... And almost all of our rigs are only compatible with those older, incomplete designs.... I see more of the "problem" RSLs around the DZ than I do anything else, by far. For most of us to jump a "properly designed" RSL we would have to change our entire container system, ... That would simply suck to get rid of my container that I love and have not outgrown just because I need (or someone else thinks I need) a RSL.. I hope to never see that, but I guess we'll see. Skydiving without an Altimeter
nate_1979 replied to dgskydive's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
But my Sony camcorder uses one and it gives me a pretty accurate "time remaining" count? Plus, the unit either has an accurate way within the hardware to determine remaing power or it doesn't. If it doesn't, no kind of software upgrade is going to fix it. Well, considering that it is fixed, I guess there is a way that software can be updated to fix it.. All the hardware has to do is be able to measure the battery voltage, ... A software update would only have to find a way to change how it takes those voltage readings to find a new more accurate way to test the battery... In the case of Neptune I'm guessing that a good way to put the battery under load for the test was the use of the backlight (which it does now). Like someone else posted, I'd rather they put the unit out and let us use it, but make it upgradable (because I love it) rather than put units through a bunch of alpha testing and release the thing in 2012. JMO... FGF #??? I miss the sky... There are 10 types of people in the world... those who understand binary and those who don't. -

Or, the battery indicator sucked but has been fixed now with software updates. FGF #??? I miss the sky... There are 10 types of people in the world... those who understand binary and those who don't. -
Sweet, I'll be at pacific on Saturday, mabey see ya there I have not made it into the sky here yet, but I'm looking forward to it.. FGF #??? I miss the sky... There are 10 types of people in the world... those who understand binary and those who don't.

I think that Alti-2 (the makers of the Neptune) are a "trusted" name as well.. FGF #??? I miss the sky... There are 10 types of people in the world... those who understand binary and those who don't.

Skydiving without an Altimeter

Take care of the digital altimiter like your supposed to with all of your gear... When using a digital altimiter, that means using the batteries that are recomended by the mfg, making sure that it's updated, and not jumping it when the battery indicator says that it's gonna die.. I trust my Neptune, and I know that if it fails it wont "stick" at 6,000 ft.. If it fails, I'll have immediate knowledge that it's failed as soon as I look at it instead of a false reading. FGF #??? Unconscious skydiver in freefall?
nate_1979 replied to HydroGuy's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I would probably lean towards the reserve, since I would think that it has less chance for line overs and other nasty malfunctions that an unconscious person may not be able to act on.... Requires a less stable deployment position as well from what I understand.. FGF #??? I miss the sky... There are 10 types of people in the world... those who understand binary and those who don't. -
On sunday I goto church, then I go skydiving... I wear my rig into church since it's on the way to the DZ and I wont leave it in the car.. FGF #??? I miss the sky... There are 10 types of people in the world... those who understand binary and those who don't.

And in relply to the rest of it, I guess I'm trying to understand what point is trying to be made here.... From my understanding an airport which recieves federal funding can not discriminate between businesses or pilots that want to use the airport, (am I correct on this?) .... If that is true, allowing a dropzone to operate there would be the airport complying with the rules they must follow for federal funding.. The dropzone, not recieving any federal funding, is seperate, and would be allowed to make their own rules just like any other business.. Am I talking out my ass (probably) or am I catching the drift of what's being said here? FGF #??? I miss the sky... Skydiving without an Altimeter
nate_1979 replied to dgskydive's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Done it once, forgot to put it on before getting on the plane... If I'm in the plane, or waiting to load the plane, and I realize that I forgot it I'll still jump (at my home DZ anyway) ... I can guestimate my altitude. fairly accurately there. I'll also still go if in a group, so I guess that leaves me not going if I forget it if I am jumping solo at a dropzone I dont know -
I could see the "it must be a modern AAD" requirement if they want to require AADs... To prevent FXC models or something... But I just dont see anyone saying I cant use my Cypress, .. but then again who knows what the future holds.. FGF #??? I miss the sky... There are 10 types of people in the world... those who understand binary and those who don't.

how far fetched are we going to get with this... I'd take my cypress 2 to another DZ. edit to add: course, I live in SoCal, so that's easy to do FGF #??? I miss the sky... There are 10 types of people in the world... those who understand binary and those who don't.
