Something that I think some DZs should look into as another source of new students.. MWR trips can definately attract some people, especially if they offer a small discount to the group. I have never seen skydiving offered through my MWR. FGF #??? I miss the sky... There are 10 types of people in the world... those who understand binary and those who don't.

Are Gas Prices Affecting Your Jumping Activities?

Depends on altitude, but I figure that I wouldnt have the time to do much more than elbow the sides of the container before going silver... Based on 3,000ft pull, couple of seconds to go WTF, couple seconds to look behind to see what problem is / clear any burble, then mabey elbow container.. Figure that puts me around my hard deck of 1800 feet, time for silver. FGF #??? I miss the sky... There are 10 types of people in the world... those who understand binary and those who don't.

Silver only... If I end up with two canopies out, I'll deal with that when it comes... I'd rather have both canopies connected to me rather than one canopies risers tangled in another canopy where I cant do shit with it. But, both options just suck. FGF #??? I miss the sky... How big of a deal is container size really, ... I'm jumping about 1.08:1 on a 190, in a container that used to hold a 210... I really dont notice any discomfort. 1.2 at 80 jumps (if you double) is a little bit on the high side in my low jump # opinion. Just remember it only takes one bad landing, how you do on "most" of them doesnt matter at that point. edited to add: When you custom order a new container (sounds like your doing) it's gonna be comfortable, not like the rentals your probably used to now FGF #??? Training for when you're not in the air.

Watch alot of skydiving videos -
THere are some instructions in the Navy, depending on who you work for (aviation guys can get screwed) which the command can specificly say no skydiving etc.. I had someone at my command tell me that I was not allowed to do it anymore (an E-7).. My CO now knows that I do it and has no problems with it, so what that E-7 thinks is now no matter a concern.. So far though, in the navy, aviation guys are the only ones that have a specific instruction about "high risk" liberty activities. That being said, I talked to the Navy Safety Center about skydiving when the E-7 was talking shit, and they responded saying that they "Feel that skydiving is a relatively safe sport", along with spouting off stuff about USPA safety day, USPA training etc. Blues, Nate FGF #??? How about the mal (like my first) where the jumper is already spinning on his back, so he doesnt have to be going "ass-over-teakettle in 3 axis" because he's already in a dangerous deployment position when he chops (on my back)? My RSL deployment went just fine, this time, but considering I was most likely still on my back when the reserve PC deployed .... I really dont need a reserve PC coming up between my legs or wrapping around one of them, I'm more worried about that than I am of line twists. I really dont need a reserve horseshoe or wrap to add to my list. FGF #??? I miss the sky... There are 10 types of people in the world... those who understand binary and those who don't.

And mabey someday I will happily own a rig thats compatable with the skyhook, I think that's an awsome safety feature and I wouldnt hesitate having one of those hooked up in my rig... But as far as the RSL, the answer is simply *NO THANKS, I'll pull my own ripcord, thank you very much* FGF #??? I miss the sky... I've only got a couple jumps on the Sabre 2, couple jumps on the Pilot, and I now own a Safire 2.... Get demos, but I'll say I -LOVE- my Safire 2... It's a fun canopy, nice openings, glides hella far, ... I just love it, get a demo FGF #??? I miss the sky... Dont get the split D-Bag, I had mine closed up by a rigger, just an extra pain in the ass IMO, harder to close up. FGF #??? I miss the sky... There are 10 types of people in the world... those who understand binary and those who don't.

And haw was your forced reserve opening? Ok I assume so the RSL did it's work I'm guessing that it worked... Like I said, I had the dring pulled before I felt reserve ... The point is that I also worked, performed my EPs without any problem Dont need the RSL, never have needed it, and hopefully never will since I dont have it anymore FGF #??? I miss the sky... I, having had more malfunctions than some people with thousands of jumps (a whole nother issue in itself), can confidently say that I dont think I will ever cut away and do nothing else... I have had my handles in my hands BOTH TIMES i've chopped before I felt the reserve do crap, even with the RSL. I have performed my EPs twice, and done it flawless both times.. One was spinning on my back, I didnt even get freaked out by this, everything was just "automatic" because I take the time to practice my EPs before EVERY JUMP and I think about what I will do in emergency situations on a regular basis. The first one, which I say the RSL fired on my back, I had even waited to flip back belly to earth before pulling the handle, still didnt feel the reserve before I pulled (although I realize the reserve may have been assisting in my flip back belly to earth).. When I chose not to pull the reserve immediately, I knew what my altitude was and that I had plenty of time to get stable before pulling (even though I had RSL, honestly the fact that RSL was pulling my reserve ripcord never even crossed my mind at that point). I feel that in my case, the chance of an RSL firing my reserve before I want it (such as on my back when I have time to get belly to earth stable) or in a situation where my main is still attached in some way (riser brake / release problem) is much higher than me just not performing my EPs... I know, others have said the same, they have died saying the same, and they thought they were different too, but I think having chopped twice in my low jump numbers gives me something to stand on for my feelings about RSL. I've read the fatality reports, RSL would have saved many people, but there are also those reports where the RSL may have made things worse. I think that those "may haves" need to be taken into consideration when people choose RSL or NO RSL, saying that an RSL has only helped people is just wrong. With respect, and I really mean that... I dont wanna be that low jump # punk who thinks he's right, but I just dont understand how people can say the RSL doesnt ever hurt people when it has. FGF #??? I miss the sky... RSLs can cost lives, it may be rare, but it can happen... I can save my own life, I'd rather trust myself to save my own life than count on an RSL that *COULD* kill me. Like people have said, it's like the airbag, good most of the time but sometimes tragic... Only difference is that I can choose not to accept the possibility that some safety device is gonna hurt me here. FGF #??? I miss the sky... There are 10 types of people in the world... those who understand binary and those who don't.

Had one, had two cut aways where I didnt need it (one of which the RSL deployed my reserve after a spinning on my back malfunction) Dont need it, dont want it. No more RSL for me FGF #??? I miss the sky... There are 10 types of people in the world... those who understand binary and those who don't.

New brake lengths on my Sabre 170 - throwing off my landings.
nate_1979 replied to mdrejhon's topic in Safety and Training
Tail deflection... Basicly in full flight your brake lines are bowed behind you, ... There is slack, so that when you pull your front risers you dont pull the tail of the canopy at all.... I pulled the brakes slowly while watching the tail of the canopy to see when the breakes started pulling the back of the canopy... For me it was just way to far, well past where I would ever need for front risers My brakes were long enough that my turns just sucked, canopy wasnt as responsive as I had seen in demos... And the flare just sucked... Ofcourse, that was me and my canopy, nothing says the case is the same for you -

nate_1979 replied to mdrejhon's topic in Safety and Training
If it really bothers you, you could have your brake lines shortened... I do believe that they can lengthen them again later on "assuming you have lines that shrink" .... I had to have the brakes on my new canopy shortened because I also could not get a good flare out of it, ... A thing to check would be to see how far you can pull down on the lines before you see deflection on the back of the canopy, tell your rigger how much play they have and he should be able to tell you if they are too long or right.. I was able to pull the toggles past my sholders before deflection of the canopy, clearly too long FGF #??? I miss the sky...
