2 point 8-way for C license?
nate_1979 replied to Slowfaller's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Good point... God, I do too... I love coming down from a 10 way or 4 way and saying, "that was my best ever." Doing a perfect block and hearing my coaches cheer me on is awesome, and that is much more important to me than a letter on paper... Which was exactly what I had in mind when I said that its "one way of advancing" But for those that dont understand, dont jump, I can say that I have a 'B' license which to them makes it sound like I'm better than an 'A' license... or something like that edited to add: Glad that some of us have goals to get instructor licenses, because I dont I do want to get my coach rating, just because I want to give back to the new guys whenever I can. To be that one person that only one skydiver really was to me when I was working on my 'A'. FGF #??? I miss the sky... 2 point 8-way for C license?
nate_1979 replied to Slowfaller's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
yea, shell out the $$$ I honestly dont know why people complain so much about the licensing fees... Mabey I'm stupid but I like the feeling of advancing in what I do, and in this sport one way of advancing is getting new licenses. It's not everything, but I was proud to get my 'B' as uneventful as many may feel that is. This is an expensive sport, and I fail to see how the small amount of $$$ for licensing is "breaking" so many jumpers. FGF #??? I miss the sky... heh, I still screw up the "throw the pack job down" thing... Setting that thing down is a pain in the ass. I also fold the stabilizers over eachother when packing, seems to work fine, most of the time FGF #??? I miss the sky... Ditto on the line stows, just make sure they wont get caught in eachother (giving you a bag lock) ... that would suck... But yea, it'll open You gonna jump this thing this weekend or what? FGF #??? Your right, that does belong in the other thread... This situation w/ skyhook is even less complicated, because I dont think you will find any documentation or any instructer etc. that will tell you "aww hell, dont worry bout pullin' no silver, ya got skyhook!" Advertisements are just that, advertisements.. Made to sell stuff.. this advertisment was made to show that skyhook gets you under a reserve quick. Advertisements are not training manuals, equipment manuals, or advice (unless you want to count the Femur is not a verb thing as an advertisement) If someone actually references an advertisement as what they base there EPs off of, they clearly need some serious training. I see advertisements frequently that show things that are not realistic, true, or correct... But they do catch your eye dont they. FGF #??? I miss the sky... Or the same highly respected and experienced jumper who uses a Cypres 2 that's advertised as great for "Pond Swooping"? then goes in under a downplane after the Cypres fires because he exceeded it's limits? which were printed in the manual. You just proved my point, the ADVERTISMENTS directed it to swoopers, the MANUAL says that the cypress will fire when conditions are met. Which do you follow? The advertisment or other, more reliable sources? FGF #??? I miss the sky... There are 10 types of people in the world... those who understand binary and those who don't.

And like you said by believing the manufacture hopefully you RTFM right? Well, the manual probably says that you need proper training, which comes from your instructors, who hopefully told you "Pull Silver"... I know that this is a complicated sport, but seriously if someone looks at an ADVERTISMENT and says "Hey, I dont have to pull silver anymore" i'm willing to bet they are the same jackass that rides down to cypress fire because "the rig will save them automaticly and they can just enjoy the ride" ... Yup... Last week I just got slammed hard by my Safire 2... This is a canopy that I know alot of people who jump them and they were all shocked that I had anything but a soft opening on it... I also had thought that I'd had a hard opening until this one, and it was caught on video (still need to copy it from the guy) ... It was hard enough that the chest strap (which was loosened from the opening) slapped me on the bottom of my face, my sholders and neck were sore for awhile... Like you said, shit happens. On the video you can see it come out of the d-bag and just whip open, I usually have to wait for end cells to fully open up, this time the center started collapsing a bit after the opening shock. Ouch. FGF #??? I miss the sky... There are 10 types of people in the world... those who understand binary and those who don't.

So, speaking from the perspective of the 4way guy who often gets out first, how is the spot of the first out??? I often see RW groups screwing the rest of the load by not believing the pilot's interpretation of winds, not asking for an accurate climb out, or waiting until the spot looks perfect before climb out... The first out should not have a perfect spot, but a spot in which they can get back safely... The middle out should have the perfect spot... I kind of have proof... I watch every person who lands out, and it seems to always be the last out, where the first out has time to play over the peas (which at home is closer to the end of jump run)... I have seen the guys who only do RW seem to be more of "spot hogs" than the guys who have been the freeflier or AFF instructor and know what it is like to be the last out... Perhaps if you put the large way RW guys out last for one weekend and the freefliers became spot hogs, they would change their habits??? I myself, try to not be the problem when I am out first... No, you dont need a perfect spot, but also keep in mind that on a normal jumprun the first out will have to fight the wind to get back and get blown away from the DZ in freefall, you can exit farther from the DZ at the tail end of jump run than you can on the front of jumprun. Of course this is not always the case and is why you should know what the winds are doing before you decide what a good spot is I dont ever just jump on green though, always gotta look, especially lately since the GPS has been broken
