The Monarch was one of the first ZP canopies I ever jumped. At the time (not having much to compare it to) I thought it was a great canopy to fly. However the openings were so damn hard I would never consider buying one. I have heard people found ways to tame the openings so maybe the one you are going to demo has been de-tuned. Definetly the hardest opening canopy I ever jumped.

David Leeif Brandal - Stolen Gear
peckerhead replied to jeffmullins's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I have the address it was shipped to, the name of the person who signed for it, serial number, pictures, and a bogus phone number. I have contacted the DZ's down there but no luck so far. Anyone can PM me for details. It is also listed on this site in the stolen gear section. -
David Leeif Brandal - Stolen Gear
peckerhead replied to jeffmullins's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
That totally sucks Jeff. I sold a rig a few months ago to a guy in the phillapines. He ripped me off by using a stolen credit card to pay for it. Unfortunately some skydivers are scumbags. Stealing parachutes is the worst thing, I hope they get caught. -
>>>Now sex is safe and skydiving really is dangerous. Now the dangerous part is after the parachute opens. In the old days we just bounced.
-
Back in the 80's I had a T shirt that read " I remember when sex was safe and skydiving was dangerous" Now sex is safe and skydiving really is dangerous. Funny... Be prepared, be very prepared.

My how things have changed. When I was a young jumper I was doing RW with the "experienced" jumpers and not learning too much. Because the more experienced jumper will do all the flying. Even if they don't mean it the more experienced flyer will come to you. One day when I had about 50 jumps this old sage Jumpmaster came up to me and said I should start doing two ways with somebody that had the same number of jumps that I had. That way you will actually LEARN something. Me and my buddy made about 20 jumps together and we got so much better in a short period of time. After that experience I got so much more confident jumping with the mega jump guys. And, I learned to fly. This board is full of bad advice.

Applied directly to the forehead.

I have a container sized for a 150 and I put a 160 in it. The bigger the better!

I totaly agree. It is obviously meant to be some sort of insult. Maybe we should call sit flyers "butt flyers"

I don't think I will ever have enough jumps to swoop. It looks dangerous to me. I don't care how good you think you are. I used to jump rounds so the idea of hitting the ground hard is just not very appealing. I will stick to the standard downwnd, base, and final. Stand-up tippy-toe landings thank you very much! Fly fast, land soft.

Origin of "perfectly good airplane" ?
peckerhead replied to AlexK's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Why ski off of a perfectly good chairlift? If it is still running wouldn't it be safer to just ride it back down? -
Amen bro....Great post! For me things really started to make sense at about 500 jumps. By then I had 3 reserve rides, an instructors rating, a D license, crew jumps, round jumps, night jumps, water jumps, demos, etc. Even so I did not really feel like I was in the "club" until 1000. My best bonfire stories come from the first 500.

I started jumping when I was 18. I had almost 1000 jumps when I was 25. No big deal by todays standards but back then that was a lot. It took nearly 15 years to make my next 1000 jumps because life gets in the way.... Marriage, kids, work, etc. But, I am jumping a lot more now so that is good.

What to do for my 100th jump?
peckerhead replied to blondebombshell's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Have fun. Land safely. Buy a case of beer. -
Watch them pack your reserve. If they won't let you watch go somewhere else. It's YOUR gear.

Some drop zones don't even need a reason.... Hey! Lets hit him with a pie, he just bought a new car! Or, Hey! he didn't do ANYTHING! but he has never been pied before so lets do it! Or, Hey! lets T-bag him because he is asleep and we are not! Personally, I think its stupid. I would rather make them buy beer for acomplishments then throw pastries. But if you must NEVER do it with the gear on! That is sacrilege! More later,

When a parachute opens in the airplane...
peckerhead replied to Skyliber's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I had my main go over the tail of a 182. If it would have been my reserve I'd be dead. It cut most of the lines off of the left riser and tore a hole in the canopy big enough you could walk through it. Unless you experience it you have no idea how fast shit happens. Talk about a hard opening! I guess there is a reason we don't use belly bands anymore. -
Call it a day after a cut away?
peckerhead replied to AEsco48's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I had back to back malfuntions on the same day. They were the first two loads of the day and I think I made 3 more jumps on borrowed gear. If it happened now I would probably quit jumping for the day, repack my reserves and drink beer. Your attitude changes with age. -
1981 Loveland/Fort Collins Mid Air Collision
peckerhead replied to kimlove's topic in Skydiving History & Trivia
You know what I have been looking things over here and I think the certificates were filled out the day I went through training. We got weathered out and did not jump. I came back and made my jump a few weeks after. I found my first log book and it says 4-17-81 signed by c-11707 Wow, sorry it was a long time ago. -
1981 Loveland/Fort Collins Mid Air Collision
peckerhead replied to kimlove's topic in Skydiving History & Trivia
I made my first jump the same day at Hot Spur Paracenter in Littleton Colorado. I did not hear about the crash until I got home to my condo in Breckenridge. My mom was freaked because she assumed I was jumping in Loveland and not Littleton. It was on the national news. Are you sure about the date? My first jump certificate says it was in March not April. It was a long time ago, maybe my JM was confused. Maybe I am confused. I worked at Copper mountain as a lift operator when I made my 1st jump and the mountain was closed by mid-April. No snow.... -
One fucking thousand jumps! Good for you! feels good don't it? I remember when 100 felt like a big deal, then it was 500.... But 1000! then you are really a skydiver! Congrats man! Whoo Hoo!
-
I would pack it. But that doesn't mean I would jump with you.
-
I have a folding chair that I take to the DZ. It has a "WARNING" tag on it. I still sit on it even though I know I am taking a risk. I don't mean to sound harsh but this boo fucking hoo crybaby shit is starting to get old.....

What about that big tall redhead chick from the NorthWest?

Why did you start skydiving?
peckerhead replied to Chris-Ottawa's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Why? Because I could. Seriously, I don't really remember the motivation because it was so long ago. Teenage hormones most likely. I seem to remember trying to impress my ex-girlfriend. (that bitch, I will show her!) I wanted to jump at sixteen which was legal with parental consent but my mom would not sign. My dad said I should wait untill I was 18. That was when he made his first military jump. I look back on it now and I really don't know why I started, it is just something I have always done. More later,
