How long has it been since your last reserve ride?
peckerhead replied to peckerhead's topic in The Bonfire
nice...do you still jump it? -
BULLSHIT! We are ALIVE when we leave the plane! Everyone I have ever jumped with was ALIVE when we left the plane! And so far they were also alive when we landed. I don't jump with dead people.

Jay Stokes - 640 Jumps In 24 Hrs (Was: 600 Jumps)
peckerhead replied to DSE's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Way to go Mr Stokes! It would be real interesting to hear from Jay how he was able to beat his last record by over 100 jumps. Was it the aircraft, pilots, his own super-human ability? the support crew, What? Incredible! I do have a suggestion for your next attempt; Do it in Alaska so you don't have to jump in the dark! -
"The PD guy told me that I might be disappointed when I jump the Triathlon." I bet the Aerodyne guy would not agree..... I have jumped both Triathlons and Spectres and I could not tell much difference between the two. They are very similar canopies in my opinion. You might find the smaller size of the Tri to be a bit more zippy but nothing dramatic. I used to prefer the Triathlon because the fabric that AR used before was much easier to handle. It is refered to as the South African ZP, but now they are using the same stuff as PD so that advantage is gone. If your Tri is a few years old made from the SA fabric you will find that packing is much easier. I am not sure what year they made the change. The Spectre is more expensive and for some reason has a higher resale value but the flight characteristics are comparable to A Tri. I have heard it said more than once that the Spectre is PDs version of the Triathlon.

Do you think the video footage of Irwin's death should be shown?
peckerhead replied to SkydiveStMarys's topic in The Bonfire
Man, that is a tough one.... I would say OK if it can be used for educational purposes to prevent a similar incident. I do realize it is a rare freak type accident but still.... I also think it should be up to the family. -
Would it be possible to have student or coach jumps available in the drop down menu? For that matter why can't you customize your profile to say what you want to say? The drop downs don't always provide the best description.

>>>>It's really bothering me.. Dude, lighten up! At 19 jumps the most important thing is to have fun. You will get it, just don't put so much pressure on yourself. Every single one of us went through the same thing. You did not waste anyones time....jumping with students is the coaches job. If you are paying student rates she got a free jump out of it and hopefully learned something herself.

Too expensive in my opinion. But, they do have a nice catalog. Call Ralph if you want the best price.

Do you jump with an AAD? (turned on)
peckerhead replied to Mr17Hz's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I totaly agree with John Rich on this one. I made my first 5 jumps without an AAD. (static line) When I was cleared for freefall I was required to have a sentinel on my belly wart for 20 jumps. Then I made over 2000 jumps without an AAD. A few years ago I bought a new rig with a cypress. I know you newer jumpers may not understand this but I never felt comfortable jumping with an AAD so most of the time I would not turn it on. I know they are much more reliable than the old days but a mis-fire can still kill you. It was nice to have because I travelled a lot that year and I jumped at several DZs that would not let you jump without one regardless of experience, here in the US and abroad. But I would never turn it on unless I was forced to do so. (and then turn it off after gear check) I currently have 3 rigs.....2 freefall rigs and one CRW rig. I have an AAD on one of the freefall rigs in case I go to a REQUIRED Dz otherwise I never turn it on. I have had 8 cutaways and I have never deployed a reserve below 1200 feet Most were between 1600 to 2500 (and one at 10K) If you need to have your reserve closing loop cut at 750 feet you have a serious problem. At that point you have lost complete control of the situation and you don't have a fucking clue. I believe it is the grey matter between your ears that controls your fate and keeps you alive. Not some electronic gadget..... PS I am 44 with a wife and two young boys. I take this very serious and always wear a hard helmet. -
Have you considered asking a local?
-
You will hear different opinions on this but I have always measured the MLW from the bottom of the 3-ring to the legstrap attachment point. (not the lateral) With an articulating harness you treat the hardware as part of the webbing.

Got an idea from tv, need advice to execute
peckerhead replied to xlh883's topic in Safety and Training
I have been the holder a few times and I just held onto it with my left hand and deployed with the right as normal. Point the "hole" towards the relative wind. After opening I just put it over my shoulder and landed with it. I had considered dropping it over an open area but there is really no reason to. You or someone else will just have to go get it. Of course if you have a malfunction you should just toss it and go to your EPs. They are light and made of plastic so it won't do much damage. Still, you should always be over open areas when jumping a hoop in case you need to drop it. -
The vidiot totally hosed the exit...... I would have been MUCH closer than that!

I assume you made that your self....Would you consider making one to sell? I like the roll cage idea, it protects the camera but still gives you acsess to all the buttons.

Jumping without a license???
peckerhead replied to TheGirlWonder's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
To me the log book is more important than the license.... But thats just me. -
I agree with this statement. I consider a pilot chute in tow to be a total malfunction because the container remains closed.
