Eloy Christmas Boogie. How busy is the sky?
peckerhead replied to WooHoo's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
How busy? I have been air diving for over two decades and I still get the "willies" when I jump at Eloy. I like to hum it down and stay away from the "zoomies" Too much traffic even on a slow day.... Lots of desert if you don't mind walking... -
How are you doing Ian? Please keep us posted.

That looks nice. I got an email from Cookie Composites and they will have a box available for shipping in the next 4 weeks. Pictures should be available on their website in the next few days. I didn't like the pics I saw of the BH because the main switch is exposed and could easily switch the camera off or to a non-record mode at a critical moment. (like during climb out) It only takes a slight bump on this camera to turn it off. You have to depress the green safety switch to turn it on but there is no safety to flick it off or to a different mode. Your box looks like everything is covered. Nice Job!

What's the purpose of a hop and pop?
peckerhead replied to b_dog's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
A real Hop n Pop is from 2000 ft. 3500 ft. is a 12 second freefall. Sheesh! Kids these days! -
Can we make this sticky until the meet ends?
-
I have 3 rigs and all my reserves are larger than my mains. I think they should be at least the same size or bigger. Why? Because the reserves are not Z-P plain and simple. F-111 canopies do not perform the same so the bigger the better.

Have you ever thrown up in the plane?
peckerhead replied to GPSJane's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
No, but I have been thrown up on This is one of my best jump stories...... I was at this boogie in Southern Oregon and this pup who drank too much the night before started heaving at about 5 grand in the gypsy rose. First load Sunday morning...... The jumper sitting next to me handed the jumper his own helmet and said " Puke in this!" So he did! Well, it was a protech so all it did was strain out the big chunks and the rest ran all over his lap. He says "Why did you tell me to puke in this?" (The protech has holes in the top) "It is your helmet dude, you should have known better!" We leveled off at about 7k and opened the door and tossed him out.... Over the DZ of course and with mucho gusto. Several of us got some on us and it was not pretty. The rest of the skydive was pretty routine and I think we got a 20 way. but the rest of the ride up to altitude was very stinky. -
Go Crew dogs from Maytown! I hope they made it Ok, the last time I saw them they were looking for some gas money and a map to Arizona. Whoo Hoo!
-
Now that is bullshit! AAds are not seatbelts....... Seatbelts are seatbelts.
-
that is a crock of bullshit. It is happening here in the good ol USA. There are 3 DZ's in the state of Virginia that require manditory AADs for ALL jumpers regardless of experience. If you travel abroad and you want to jump you will face this more often. It is growing like a cancer. No gadget, no jump!

Dave DeWolf talks about this during an interview on skydive radio. He is against using mechanical washing machines but I have used them with out any problems. I think the key is cold water, gentle detergents, and the gentle cycle. Front loaders seem to be best because you don't have to worry about anything getting wrapped around the spindle in the middle. I never did understand the pillow case thing. That seems unneeded to me. Especially if it is cotton which may shed and leave fuzz on the rig. Remove the handles and protect the velcro.

Read my post again and, then think about it.

How do you count years in the sport?
peckerhead replied to Marios's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
It starts from the day you make your first jump. Why is this a hard question? -
Only the whuffos had cameras back then...... I wish I had pics of the Pap I used to jump!
-
I would chase to 2K It's the least you can do..... Don't matter which handle you can grab at that point. Just do the best you can and save yourself. Hard deck Hard deck Hard deck

Point your toes! Seriously, How much do you weigh? Are you in good shape with strong legs? Can you do it on the ground while the plane is parked? It also takes some good upper body strength to get up and in position before you let go and hang. I did this many times when I was younger and a bit dumber and it really does take some practice. It may take a few tries to get it down. I used to be able to do it on the ground and hang by my toes with a parked airplane. Not for very long mind you, just a few seconds. I would let go, hang, and then grab the strut before I fell on my head just to make sure I could do it before trying it in the air. But, it is actually easier in the air once you get into position because you have the relative wind holding you into place. If you can't do it on the ground you will not be able to do it in the air. Make sure the pilot is cool. You don't want the safety police after you.

Um, I think you mean the 70's, and it was Dan Poynter who designed and created it not John Sherman or Ted Strong. I have some experience with the concept. Mick. Well, the first time I packed a main canopy in a racer was 1982, I did not pack a reserve in a racer until 1986....
-
Container=$1000 Main=$1000 Reserve=$750 =$2750
-
Racer fans get so defensive everytime these threads come up. There are those that love them, and then there is everyone else. If given the choice between packing a reserve in a racer or anything else I will always pick anything else. And yes, I do know how. I know they have made some modifications and "ahem" improvements over the years but the basic design with two pins and the pop-top reserve is much the same as it was back in the 80s. Peace!
-
That is your opinion. They may be great to jump but they are a pain in the ass to to pack. Minimalist design? You have got to be kidding. Easily the most complicated reserve container ever made. 4 flaps on the reserve? You might want to re-check that.

2575 in 25 years or average 103 per year. But, those numbers are a bit mis-leading. I started jumping when I was 18 (1981) and I had 1000 jumps when I was 25. (man I thought I was hot shit back then) It took 15 years to make my next 1000 jumps because life got in the way....You know, a wife, kids, work, etc.... From 94 to 99 I only made about 100 jumps total. But, I made almost 300 last year so I am much better now.

What do you know, You are only 15. Besides that your dad has poisoned your mind. The corsair was SWEET! You must have one that does not fit! Show me some pics, maybe I will buy it!

Other.....many times! I currently own two Eclipses, a Talon, and an Infinity. INMHO the Eclipse was/is the most comfortable rig ever made. I have jumped Racers, Vectors, Javelins, Dolphins, Corsairs (my second favorite) Strong, Handbury, Northern lites (the original Infinity) and several others I can't remember. Back in the day you could not beat the Corsair for comfort and reserve deployment. Sniff.... I wish I would have kept that one..... Since they don't make Eclipses any more my vote would go to Infinity as the best now. My Talon is an old one from the 80's that I only use for CRW. Who cares if the flaps come open? Racers have not changed much in 20 years. Still rigger un-friendly and basically annoying. Friends don't let friends jump racers.

I am curious why the back corner is cut out. If you are using a remote switch like a cam-eye plugged in to the lanc port why would you need that open? My concern would be the switch being exposed like that might get bumped and turn the camera off at a critical moment. Part of the reason I would want a box is to protect the switches. A few months ago I was doing a video of a 16 way out of a casa and seconds before exit my Sony TRV50 had the switch bumped and I missed the whole dive. The TRV switch is in about the same place as the HC3. Did BH supply the foam or did you have to add that yourself? Thanks for the pics, it looks much better with the camera mounted.
