  3. So USPA says, in its ISP, to steer the front (in a biplane) or larger (in a side-by-side) canopy using toggles in the event of a two-out situation. Extremely experienced jumpers whom I trust, along with my own intuition, tell me that unstowing toggles on a two-out is a very bad idea, and that even first-jump students should not be instructed thusly. Thoughts? Part two. In discussions with said very experienced jumper/instructors, I have been informed that they, as experienced jumpers, would not attempt to land two canopies, as the USPA recommends, but would instead force separation and/or a downplane and cut the main away. 7. I couldn't find any statistics, but I really really doubt this. The main is packed quickly and often by inexperienced people; the reserve is packed slowly and carefully by a rigger after a meticulous inspection. That alone would influence the malfunction rates. Add a deployment system designed for speed and to compensate for instability, and I'll bet the reserve malfunction rate is much lower than that of mains. Of course, my logic may be flawed, and I'm not taking into account main-reserve entanglement issues. Skydiving is for cool people only
  8. It depends on what it is.... If I ever buy new, custom gear, and there's not that much difference in price, I'll probably get it from Square One, because you're my pal, and because I know you'll spend time with me discussing my options. But if I'm buying little trinkets that require no thought, like rigging supplies or rubber bands or something, I'll probably go with Para-Gear or Sunshine Factory or SkyKat, because they have an enormous selection and their Web sites and shopping carts are really easy to use and my addled brain doesn't have to think much. Jumpsuits I'll buy straight from the maker. I tend to buy used for most of my major gear, simply because I don't have ulimited money to spend on skydiving stuff. Skydiving is for cool people only
  9. But he does know something about English grammar , spelling ,and punctuation! Skydiving is for cool people only
  10. I really don't understand this.... You would have preferred to have appeared to the entire Parachutist-reading populace as someone without a basic grasp of English grammar? I wouldn't vote for someone who didn't at least appear to understand spelling and punctuation. I'm going to assume that USPA did you a favor, unless you post the original and can prove that the meaning of your statement was altered. Skydiving is for cool people only

  14. I got 21, too. I'm a geek. That test is too easy. I think it needs updating. Maybe some questions on rigging certifications, living in a van at the dz, ratings, world records (eyeing the bytch), posts on dropzone.com, etc. Skydiving is for cool people only

  18. I could use a lesson in measuring people for jumpsuits. I know jumpsuits don't really fall exactly into the realm of rigging, but this is something riggers are often asked to do. Skydiving is for cool people only
  19. Beautiful day in South Texas. About 63 on the ground, but a tad chilly at altitude. I'd be smug, but I'm at work. Skydiving is for cool people only
  20. This forum offers me a non-intimidating place to learn about BASE. I've peeked at blinc a few times, but it's confusing and technical and kind of unfriendly. I'd feel a lot more comfortable gathering rudimentary information in a safe space like dz.com. And I don't the presence of this forum will make me any more or less likely to try BASE. 22. This isn't productive, Jimbo, and I find it really rude. Crazy Ivan, the reserve is your last chance. You absolutely don't want to use it unless you have to. But I bet your rigger will tell you you're more than welcome to pull your handles on the ground before a repack, which is good practice. I see you jump a PD reserve. Performance Designs has a demo program for reserves -- if you want to do a practice jump on one, shoot them an e-mail and they'll send you one for a fee to hook up to your rig and try out. 23. That man also tried to sneak language into a weapons bill that would force Belo Corp., a smallish media company and owner of the Dallas Morning News, to sell one of its properties. Armey blames the Dallas Morning News for his son's loss in the congressional race to replace him. I guess he's on his way out and has nothing to lose. Skydiving is for cool people only
