  1. Nope. Every skydive I make is my last one. Skydiving is for cool people only
  2. I submit that's not a hard-and-fast rule...careful though, because 60 seconds of freefall is just enough time to get frustrated. Skydiving is for cool people only
  3. I'm not new, and that's my train of thought verbatim. Skydiving is for cool people only
  4. I think billvon has a van he can lend you. Good luck with the visa! If you need character references, just ask. "He spells very well!" That's what I'll tell 'em. Skydiving is for cool people only

    First experience

I'm really sorry that some posts on an electronic forum were enough to ruin your first BASE. I, for one, really appreciated the comments of Tom and others -- I might approach my first Bridge Day in a safer way than I originally would have now, having read the reactions of some experienced BASE jumpers to your post. 6. Why are you talking about me all the time lately? Is my fly unzipped? Skydiving is for cool people only
  7. Thanks Phil! Oh, interesting fact: Apparently, USPA members who do not live in the United States can vote for one regional director candidate of their choice. Hint, hint! Skydiving is for cool people only
  8. I say if we ever happen upon billvon napping at the dz, we should paint his nails and make up his face. And freeze his bra! Wait, that last one probably wouldn't work. Skydiving is for cool people only
  9. Allen Flynn, an S&TA, AFF-I and Skydive U coach at Skydive San Marcos and all around Cool Guy™ is running as a write-in candidate for USPA regional director in the gulf region. That includes a lot of south Texas, Arkansas and Louisiana. His website is www.allenflynn.net and he sez to e-mail him if you've got questions and he'll be glad to talk to you. (Or if you post questions on this thread I'll send them to him.) If the picture on his site looks familiar, that's because he was the profiled skydiver in October's Parachutist. I'm posting this because Allen wasn't going to, but he said it was cool if I did. Allen is a very awesome guy, and I totally trust him to represent my $44 in USPA. He also directed my coach course last weekend but he already signed everything off so I don't need to suck up anymore. So this is sincere. Skydiving is for cool people only
  10. It was cool to meet you Pop. Sorry you didn't get to jump. Skydiving is for cool people only
  11. There's no such thing as a wasted jump. I was talking about first solos with a bunch of skydivers this very weekend -- we all confirmed that we were so relieved to be away from the pressure of AFF that we just fell like stones for 60 seconds, no manuvers, just watching the sky and enjoying ourselves. We all remembered it with a lot of fondness. There's plenty of time to practice later. If you feel like just falling, just fall. Skydiving is for cool people only
  12. 0:1:2 Took the coach course, but couldn't get the eval dives in because of the weather. I should finish it in the next week or two. Did a hop n pop Friday on my new main. I didn't know that would be my last jump of the weekend! One case of beer for the new main, another for my first rating (almost). Good weekend, but I'm freaking whipped. I haven't spent two nights at the dropzone in a long time. People snore. Skydiving is for cool people only
  13. Personally, I DON'T think they're good ideas. I've watched someone pack one, and it took him twice as long as an F-111 reserve, and there was sweat pouring down his face as he tried to control the ZP fabric. Packing reserves requires a lot of precision, which is difficult to get with ZP. Do you really want to make packing your reserve that much more tricky for your rigger? I just don't think there's any point using ZP for a canopy that's only going to see a few uses (one hopes). The porosity just won't be affected to the point that ZP fabric would be a benefit. That said, there have been a few discussions on them, but the search function isn't working right, so you might have to browse the threads for them. Skydiving is for cool people only

    Forum Changes

Thank you Val. You said it without profanity, which is more than I could have done. Scott, is it really any skin off your nose to have a women's forum? Walgreen's also has a really good price! Skydiving is for cool people only

    lost interest

Absolutely. Just going out and having zoo dive after zoo dive is fun for a while, but the novelty quickly wears off. If you're working toward something, anything, whether it's a stable head-down or camera proficiency or an AFF rating, I think skydiving is a million times more fulfilling. 19. Because my brain is too addled to balance my checkbook properly, so forget handling accounts payable and receivable. And because I doubt there's much of a market for my editing skills on a freelance basis. I could write for magazines, and probably make an OK living doing it, but I have no self discipline when it comes to writing. I'd alienate every editor in the world, one by one, by missing deadlines. 20. I'm working. My friends want me to go to the gay bar tonight after work and hang with the costumed drag queens but I don't know if I should make a wild night of it. I have to get up early. Skydiving is for cool people only

  22. Hmm, I don't feel very free while skydiving. In fact, I feel rather constrained -- there's a very specific action I absolutely must take if I don't want to die, and there's a very narrow window in which I must take it. And I still might die. It is hella fun though. If it were completely safe it wouldn't be what it is. It wouldn't be a subculture, it would just be like...like...well, I don't know. Like Six Flags on a summer weekend. 23. Plus, what if you bought the same numbers every week, then one week forgot to buy a ticket, then THOSE NUMBERS WON!!!!!!!!!!! Skydiving is for cool people only
  24. I don't ever play the lottery. I've only bought a ticket once, when the jackpot was huge and a bunch of us from work went and bought them. That night when they read the numbers, I looked down at my ticket and thought, "I just paid $1 to be disappointed." Not that I don't fantasize about what I'd do if I won it.
