Any Updates on CReW Record Attempt in FLA?
Jessica replied to Gawain's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I've been e-mailing with one of the record attempters for an unrelated reason, and he mentioned this today (Saturday): we set a new American record this morning. We built a 50 way and flew it for 25 seconds. we have repeated that number on two successive jumps. Hope we go for the world record tomorrow. Yeeha! Skydiving is for cool people only -
I may be packing a Reflex (my own) for the first time this week. I will of course have the manual in front of me, and my rigger will be supervising, but he is not terribly familiar with Reflexes. I'd appreciate any tips you guys might have for closing the container. Skydiving is for cool people only

I know...I have to pinch my nose shut and close my eyes when I walk past one of those places...otherwise I'll black out and when I regain conciousness, realize I just bought 8 different kinds of soap. Skydiving is for cool people only

It's got these crazy wacky brake lines, part of which actually release when you unstow the toggles, so it looks like you've got trailing broken lines. My rigger told me a story about a very freaked out student who was sure he was having a reserve mal when he saw it. Very strange canopy. I wouldn't have a problem jumping one though. Oooh, I LOVED "Sliding Doors." That's a good snowy-day flick (not that I have any familiarity with snowy days). I've had "Run Lola, Run" recommended to me by about 10 friends. I need to see it. Skydiving is for cool people only

I've packed a Swift 5-cell DOM 1983(!!). It was in great shape. Personally, I have a Raven DOM 1997. I used it; it works. Skydiving is for cool people only

Skydive U coaches can add the USPA rating pretty easily without having to take the course or anything. Here's what the USPA website says: If you are already a Skydive University Coach, you can obtain the USPA Coach Rating as follows: Take the USPA Coach Rating examination, complete the USPA Coach Proficiency Card (signed by a USPA Coach Course Director (who verifies the Skydive University rating), and mail a copy of the card into USPA along with the $25 rating fee. The exam is really easy, and I think if you're a Skydive U coach you can complete the proficiency card probably without any extra jumps. drenaline, the USPA coach course is as hard as the course director makes it. I know of at least one a friend took that was impossibly hard; the one I took was intense, but not too high-pressure. To do the Skydive U course, you have to turn in video of a series of pretty difficult (to me, anyway) prequisite dives. Here's the link: www.skydiveu.com/flash/pretask.htm. I couldn't see the web page. Anyway, here's a joke: I once was on a plane where I was served by an obviously gay male flight attendant. At one point, he bounced over to where I was sitting and announced "The captain has asked me to announce that he will be landing the big scary plane shortly, so if you could just put up your trays, that would be great." I did as he had instructed but the woman sitting next to me did not. A few moments later, our flight attendant came back and said to her: "Ma'am, perhaps you couldn't hear me over the big scary engine, but I asked you to please put up your tray so that the captain can land the plane." She still wouldn't comply. Now he was getting angry and asked her again to put up the tray. She then calmly turned to him and said: "In my country, I am called a princess. I take orders from no one." Our flight attendant replied: "Oh yeah? Well in MY country, I'm called a queen and I outrank you, bitch, so put the tray up!" Skydiving is for cool people only

I just e-mailed a flight school to schedule an introductory flying lesson. I can't afford to learn to fly...therefore I shouldn't even subject myself to a single lesson when I know I can't continue, right? I need to stop surfing the internet when I'm bored at work. I have no idea how I even stumbled on that page. My concern is that I'll love it and therefore "find a way," like I did with skydiving, and end up living in a cardboard box. Oh well. Should be fun. Both my parents have private pilot licenses and I grew up in the back of a Piper Cherokee. Skydiving is for cool people only

I have an all-black RW suit that I wear on almost every jump, and I live (clap clap clap clap) deep in the heart of Texas. It's not too bad. I take it off or unzip the top and tie around my waist between jumps. Plus I look damn cool! I think you'll be fine. I bet it'll be kind of neat-looking! Skydiving is for cool people only

USPA Group Membership opinion
Jessica replied to chriswelker's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
The coach rating doesn't add to the profit of dropzones. Almost universally, in my experience, a USPA coach jump nets the dropzone the coach's slot, and the student's slot. No more. Financially, it's just a normal two-way. A method to add to the profit of dropzones would be to require post-AFF Skydive University jumps at $60 to $80 each, or something like that. I was required to pay for several of those back when I learned to skydive. I would have learned a LOT more, and paid a lot less, to go through the current ISP instead.
