This is indeed very sad news. Blue skies to Brad.

    Whaddya think?

Far, far too salacious and raunchy for the general viewing audience of dz.com.
  3. Anybody got a working e-mail address for the Perris guys? The one I sent to canopyflight@skydiveperris.com got bounced back.
  4. And you have women troubles? C'est incroyable!!!
  5. Sounds like an oxymoron.
  6. I do a quick check over each shoulder before I wave off. It's less time-consuming than a barrel roll, but probably less effective. That, coupled with trying very hard to stay aware of where everyone else is, is enough so I'm not terrifed on deployment.
  7. They're currently trying to sell the chute to a rich uncle in Russia. OK, I get a vacation in exactly two weeks. Perhaps I'll return to normal then.
  8. The chute is OK. It was sent to Italy pending further diplomatic movement. Its lines are tangled, but it's in pretty good shape, considering its 39-day confinement. Skydivers stood on the nearby rooftops and cheered as the chute emerged from the church. Then they BASEd off of them.
  9. [brief hijack]I'm really sad you're going away without my ever getting to meet you! [/brief hijack]
  10. You know how the Church of the Nativity siege in Bethlehem ended last night? Anyway, I was at work at 1:30 a.m. trying to get it in the paper...and I was so tired that I misspelled "church" in the headline, and that's pretty bad...so when I ran spellcheck, it turned red, and I clicked "change." The headline I sent over: Chute siege finally is over It might be time to go skydive.
  11. Maybe Scientologists liked it. Maybe they enjoy it guiltily, but at the same time hope fervently that outsiders don't believe all the exaggerations and fake schtick. Maybe I'll go watch "Cutaway" again.
  12. "Letter B" is my favorite Beatles song.
  13. I think it's a legitimate metaphor. He wasn't attacking the quality of PD's canopies; it's just an anology with another business that mass-produces their product. I can't tell the difference between a Micky D's breakfast biscuit and one my mom made. In fact, I might like the Micky D's a little better cause it was faster. And for the record, I like McDonald's. Except for that deforestation stuff.
  14. Bill Von, resident BDSM expert, sez zip ties are dangerous.
  15. Nah. My belt rides low on my hips, my handles rest just below my boobs. No interference. Of course, (duh) make sure your handles are accessible before every skydive. Edge goes to belt here. It's pretty easy to get off, if you wear it over your jumpsuit. A vest, you're not getting off.
  16. Would it be an appropriate class for someone with 5 standups in 75 jumps?
  17. You know, this is starting to sound damn good. I think canopy school is going to be my next formal training. I just checked out Evolution's web site, and it looks AWESOME. And so cheap! The plane ticket out there for me will cost more than the initial training. Ground Training $25 Five instructor fees $100 One student high altitude clear & pull $17 Four student hop & pop $44 One (mandatory) flight instructor jump $17 Total: $203 Thanks for the buzz, Tom.
  18. Don't sell yourself short. Pimpin' ain't easy.
  19. And those thirty minutes are just the ride to alitude.
  20. I have one 182 jump. Kneeling for 30 minutes is something I'll only do for two reasons, and a ride to altitude is one of them. That said, I really didn't like the 182. I'll be happy to jump it again, but give me a sub-15-minute ride to altitude and a nice, snag-free seat any day. My favorite plane is the Cessna Caravan at SDD.
  21. I'd be really, really interested in seeing the before and after of your letters. I destroy other people's writing for a living, you see, and I might be able to discern the justifiability or lack thereof.
  22. Hey, are you two-timing me?! Yeah! Whatever that means. Sounds like a candy bar. Or a sexual act.
  23. I agree. Best line in there. People are inherently egotistical. Why, I'm the lead character in this movie called life! The STAR of "The Jessica Story"!! And main characters don't die. They don't hurt themselves so bad that the movie stops. They just don't, right? Actually, yeah. They do. Every day.
  24. Sometimes I can read stuff during lucid dreams. Sometimes it's frocking brilliant. But then I always forget what it says and when I try to read it again it's something else entirely. Last night I dreamed I had a double malfunction. When I pitched my main, a large sign instead of a parachute appeared over my head, informing me that the main was not working and I should pull my reserve. So I did that, and it was baglocked. But then someone pointed out to me later that reserves don't generally baglock. I felt better. Also, I remembered that we usually don't do CReW with hot-air balloons, and bodies still in freefall, which I was managing in the dream. It was actually a pretty cool dream.
