I need a bird hunting shotgun, recommendations?
LongWayToFall replied to LongWayToFall's topic in Speakers Corner
The one I went to was a full skeet semi circle, with the whole 9 stations and all. I took 2 singles instead of the doubles, and got about 50% of the birds. It is quite a challenge! Station 5 (whatever the center of the semi is) is a challenge for sure. You have to lead a good 3-4 feet. We were using modified chokes so it made it that much harder. The last station with them coming right towards you is a mofo as well, you have about .3 seconds to get the shot off, its haulin! -
It would work fine, but it won't dissolve into the liquid so the beer would be flat, and you wouldn't get high until the beer is gone. Drunken whippets are bad news! (don't ask)

My jumping partner and I have an ongoing landing accuracy competition, and I was closer all 3 times, including the last one dragging one foot the whole way across the peas and ending up right on the edge. Drinks on him tonight WOOT WOOT!!!

I got 3 in today, after 2 months off. Good to be back in the sky! 0-0-3

Went and shot 1 round of trap, and 2 of skeet. Never done skeet before. SO MUCH FUN!!!!! I'm going on wednesday again the day before we leave for north dakota, with the 870. Its gunna be a blast. Im glad the birds don't fly as fast as the clays!!! -
They are so expensive! Take some measurements and buy a fridge that can take it. Buy a regulator from a welding supply store, and co2 bottle for a paintball gun off of craigslist. Guiness is going to need nitrogen as well, so I am not sure what other fittings you will need. Your local home brew supply should be able to help with whatever you need. If you do use a welding regulator and paintball bottle, you will need to insert a small piece of something (I used a small flat head phillips screw) so that it depresses the pin on the bottle that releases the gas. I can make one and send it to you if you like, it is very simple. The standard co2 bottle size is good for about 2 full kegs, and is less than 10 bucks to refill. I think the tap assembly is $35 for domestic, and $50 for sankey type D, which is good for european. You might need a special one for the nitrogen, I'm not sure where they add it to the beer. Good luck!

Hey I started in Monterey in 04 as well. I must know you, but would need a picture or something. Monterey is not what it once was, although still a good spot to grab a couple 18k jumps. I should be out there next weekend, if you are about. Hope to see you around, and welcome back.

Welcome to the future of parachutes. I predict a small high pressure bottle somewhere on the rig that inflates small pockets inside the canopy once it is deployed.

Cool site!

What I mean is that an undercover pedestrian cop, on the complete other side of the intersection, steps one foot into the crosswalk the moment you are about to start moving and fucks you. If the driver, and pedestrian (not a cop) have an understanding that it is acceptable for them to share the crosswalk at the same time, then police should stay out of it, know what I mean? They are borderline forcing you to break the law. If it was you vs. the driving rulebook, and you rolled the stop sign, then by all means you deserve a ticket.

I saw a news thing about that baby. They were saying that the world's largest (recorded) was a baby that was 20 some odd pounds, and was born in the late 1800s. What sort of medical procedures were available back in those days? Now THAT'S a sore mama.

I suppose you are right. I did not/do not know what level of advertising this is for, but if it is not directed towards jumpers than it probably won't hurt them much. Even if they knew, the average person probably won't care about a couple trees being cut down. To Base jumpers, however, it is obviously a much bigger deal. I think some questions that need to be answered, are: What are the legal penalties, if any, and who exactly is responsible.

Sounds like big trouble. You're going to need plenty of legal advice before this thing is over. As your attorney, I advise you to rent a very fast car with no top. And you'll need the cocaine. Tape recorder for special music. Acapulco shirts. Get the hell out of L.A. for at least 48 hours. Blows my weekend.

That is somewhat similar to cops posting at stop signs, and having undercovers running out into the intersection, and anyone who drives across gets busted. I think this is very, very wrong. However, in this case, if they are serious enough to go through with the act then they are serious enough to do the research to make the bombs to begin with. It isn't as hard as you might believe. Now, if they are completely spoon fed IE a government agent, posing as a muslim, converts them, trains them, extorts them into following out the plan, then I would disagree with it completely. If all they did was agree with their position and offer a device, then they deserve to go to jail.

Hope the guy is ok. (The paraglider, not the singer!)

Du Boooooooooooo.....ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh Hahaha -
I totally agree that it is unethical, but I am just curious from a legal standpoint. If they did break laws, then they should pay whatever fines go with that, if nothing more than a goodwill gesture in an attempt to apologize. I think that the number of customers they lost with this stunt compared to gained via advertising will become apparent to upper management, and I hope appropriate actions are taken.

Thank you all for the advice. I went with the overwhelming amount of people's suggestions, and picked this bad boy up (well, payed for it, I get it in 10 days) (Did I mention California sucks?) http://www.remington.com/products/firearms/shotguns/model_870/model_870_express.asp They had a mossberg 500 with a long barrel there for a similar price as well, although the furniture didn't feel as nice and the barrel was not threaded to accept a choke, so that made the decision easy. Steve1: I shouldn't be hunting in that low of a temperature, and plan on keeping the gun clean, so reliability shouldn't be an issue (I'm hoping). Thanks again all, and I will surely post some pictures post hunt. -

I am referring to the actual magazine tube, not the plug. http://pictures.georgievi.com/blog/2009/Mossberg500.jpg Imagine the security barrel with the lug at the end of the barrel, because it is for an 8 shot mag and not 5. You absolutely need to change the mag tube out. -
Well I suppose speakers corner can have a taste as well.....

Did they break any laws?

I think the part that is fake, is that kids in America are trying it. I do believe it is a real deal over in Africa. I still think someone on the forums should try it. We should have a raffle where some people win cool prizes, and others get to try stuff like jenkem. Its a win win! (Except for the loser)

Damn. $815 out the door for an 1187, 870 win is about $425. Big 5 has some 870s for less, $350ish. -

Pheasant is the most delicious meat EVER. I plan to limit for 4 straight days and eat until I pop. :) I'm heading out to a gun store to check some things out, I'll let you know how it goes. -

http://akimages.crossmediaservices.com/dyn_li/600.0.90.0/Retailers/Big5SportingGoods/080427_DT_59a.JPG This is the security version. Short barrel, full length mag tube. If I bought this instead of a hunting model (they are harder to find) then I would need to install the longer barrel. The problem with that, is that I doubt they ever made an 8 shot 26-28 inch barrel. (The lug on the barrel determines the length of the mag tube) So I would need to buy the longer barrel, as well as the 5 shot mag tube. I'm just not sure how hard swapping the tube is, when I had mine apart it was well attached to the receiver. My mossberg was a solid gun, I liked it very much and it was about as reliable as you could get. If a racer worked every time while maybe not looking stylish, that is ok with me. I think they have problems though, so maybe better to compare it to a Norinco, or Colt. Just Kiddin!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! P.S. I will be installing a plug on my mag tube regardless, it will be 2+1. -

Lots of 870 fans, sweet! A pump gun does sound like quite a blast, and I was really comfortable on the mossberg 500 I used to own. So, if I can only find an 870 or 500 with a full mag tube, what is involved with swapping the mag tube? I remember the barrels being very easy to swap but not the tubes. I figure the full length barrels can only be put onto 5 (or somewhere around there) shot mag tubes, not the full length 8 shot. I did some calling around this afternoon and the people who do have the semi autos are asking crazy prices for them. I think I can get a mossberg 500 for somewhere around 300-350 though, nice!
