If you're referring to Bates as an "experienced" cop; he was no where close. He was a friend of the Sheriff and when he retired from business (after donating big money to the Sheriff's campaign) decided he would approach his friend about becoming a reserve (volunteer) deputy at ~70 years old. First weak link in the chain. It was quite the shit show.

True. They walk among us and demonstrate the need for more education (in this case - on many levels)

How many times have jumpers mistaken a Velcro cutaway handle with a ripcord? I guess I must be a little sexist because the debate in my mind keeps coming back to a 50 yr old woman. As compared to a experienced cop reacting to the same circumstances. I think of all the times hunters have shot other hunters, shot themselves, shot the wrong species of deer. "In 15 previous cases over the past two decades in which officers said they confused their weapons, three were convicted of a crime, including two officers who fired fatal shots. Johannes Mehserle, a transit officer who shot and killed Oscar Grant III at a train station in Oakland, Calif., in 2009, was sentenced to two years in prison. Robert Bates, a volunteer sheriff’s deputy in Tulsa, Okla., was sentenced to four years in prison after he shot and killed a man while meaning to fire his Taser." I struggle with this. I guess I'm not tracking. What's your struggle, Phil?

I think they just told the world it could use some more awareness.

The conversation revolved around defending oneself from bear; not going hunting. For self-defense, when I go to Northwest Montana each year; I'm carrying a canister of bear spray and a Desert Eagle .44 in a tanker's holster. You can carry whatever your heart desires.

Don't run out of ammo. Don't try to reload when your ass is on the line.

A Special Forces Weapons Sergeant would say, "A bear has ~5x more sense of smell than a bloodhound. Bear spray is a more effective deterrent than a weapon. If one encounters a bear rustling around in the woods with their nose up, laying down a wall of industrial strength pepper spray is going to make them want to protect that mechanism they use for survival and 99.9% of the time, they will hastily leave. Once they charge, it's best to be armed with ,44 or 454 Casull and unload it center of mass." Disclaimer: WolfRiverJoe has indicated that it might be beneficial for me to search the Internet for some "basic firearms" information, so you may want to accept the above citation with a grain of salt.

Well then, maybe you should stay in your own lane so you don't do that.

Re-read what the hell I wrote - those are the EXACT words I used.

Tell me any engineer who hasn't split hairs with their peers.

Ken, you can put two weapons experts in the same room and that discussion could go on for hours. No different than any other field of expertise. Now, you're just trying to whip this up into something it's not.

The true definition of semi-auto refers to anything with a blowback operation that automatically loads the next cartridge. Technically, anything that does not fire auto is semi. It's a hair splitting discussion.

Criteria: Would I choose it for my kid? I'm not familiar with it enough to know. I do like their patented safety (only the parent can unlock the safety).

I stand corrected. I was unaware their mean-reverted bias was low https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/pollster-ratings/

There were/are laws - how they got thrown out the window is beyond me.

Phil, you're entitled to your opinion, but please understand that for three generations of military; their opinion is the opposite. Any gun is dangerous. Having a platform that you're well-versed and trained in to train others is much safer than a platform you have zero knowledge of.
-
Morning, Phil For me that would be like saying FOX polls are accurate and well-respected - and even I don't believe that.

All weapons are semi-auto. Whatever you own is semi-auto. It take a special license from BATFE and lots of money and more patience to get an auto.

I'll play, What's the difference between https://gothunts.com/your-kids-first-22-rifle/ and the https://wee1tactical.com/ JR 15? Answer: The JR 15 has a much better safety. The AR platform has been around for over 60 years now. Throughout time, parents have been teaching their kids how to hunt & fish and they have been using the platform of "their" era. In the 1800's it was the Henry Lever action (although back then it didn't come in a .22 squirrel hunting edition). We've now had three generations of military trained on the AR platform. When they get out - they buy what they know best. No different than any other generation. So, it's just that Daddy knows best how to teach his kid on the platform he's most familiar with. The little wee1 marketing brand is a play on zombie killers. Poor taste. Maybe. But as the Kardashian's illustrate daily - poor taste isn't illegal.

Washington Post. 'nuff said.

OK We can do the short version.

Agreed, I think it was party pressure to challenge the opposition at the time and was a bad strategy.

He's talking/inferring about the "Secret" night flights of illegal immigrants. ETA: Based on what I can find, it would appear these flights are HHS flights for children. About 1.5% of "illegals" and where a majority have been subjected to sex-trafficking. IMO: I will forego the criteria of the "illegal immigrant and asylum" argument for the sake of kids getting to a safe place and out of that environment. We are the US and that's what we should do.
