  1. See?!?!? I'm not even a Greenie and I'm getting called a bull-headed moron. No respect, I tell ya. Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard.
  2. Personally... I've always found NWFlyer's (Krisanne) posts to be well-balanced, informative, mature and always in-bounds. Another choice would be flyangel2, but I doubt she'd take the job... she's kinda busy these days. Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard.
  3. Oh dear Lord. I got enough people climbing up my rear on a regular basis on here. I damn sure don't need to have a green target painted on my forehead. My hats off to the Greenies for taking precious time out of their day to work on here. I think we should have an annual Dropzone.com Greenie Appreciation Day (St. Patty's Day would be cool... we'd always remember it) Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard.
  4. Watched it happen. Quite a sound when body meets concrete, huh? Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard.
  5. I have to answer, "Yes." Military jump, C-130, four hours of nap of the earth flying and we'd all ate the peaches out of our C-Rats.. Once one guy starts; it just runs down the stick... It was called the "Peaches" jump. Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard.
  6. That's about the going rate... Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard.

    I need an excuse

Wouldn't you be better off taking the whole morning off to drive your family member in for lasik surgery since they're not allowed to drive to or from the procedure anyway? Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard.
  8. The "Search" function would reveal: http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=2423562;search_string=cost%20to%20start%20a%20dz;#2423562 Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard.
  9. I thought about that when posting... Not sure what you guys acros the pond use, but here it's only $9.00 more than the military strobes we get at the local Army/Navy surplus store, lasts tons of time longer, and is ten times safer. It's just an alternative of choice suggestion as a safety option for night jumps. I'm thinking of getting four of different colors for our local demo team. edited to add: I'm also thinking about 8-10 of them strung together on a single line for night demos instead of using pyrotechniques under canopy. 10. Terry, I'm not sure what you got at Sams, but can definately tell you this is worth looking into for night jumps for multiple applications,. It's very light, has several different colors, one can carabiner it to their gear for under canopy... Me & a couple of guys at BlackWaterUSA were checking them out and were excited at the number of possibilities for Airborne operations (they even have an IR one) Here's the manufacturer's website for more info... scroll down the first page to see more of a working prototype. www.powerflare.com Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard.
  11. There is no certainty in a world of risk. Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard.
  12. Folks, I'm down at the Gulf Coast Symposium and came across an awesome light source for night jumps. It's called a Power Flare. It's encased in a hard case that is waterproof to 300 feet and is used by night SCUBA divers. It's far less intense than the military strobes and brighter than chemlights. It has a rotating beacon in several colors and has several applications that we as skydivers could use on nightjumps... On our gear in freefall On our gear under canopy (7 nautical miles of visibility as tested for drops by the military & Coast Guard) Useful for marking the center of the DZ at night Useful for marking obstacles at night. Extremely useful to find someone at night who lands off the DZ. Different colors for different jumps so we know wo is who under canopy... etc. It's powered by CR-123 battery with a shelf life of ten years and will light for 12-100 hours... It can be found at: http://www.pfdistributioncenter.com/ I'm getting one and will post to this thread after using it. 13. Ok... now ya got me thinking how cool that would be... Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard.
  14. I can only be humbled by the gallantry of the men who served in WWII. Thanks for sharing the story. Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard.
  15. And, watch your credit report. Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard.
  16. Racer 2k3 With 50 jumps - my suggestion would be the Navigator 300 as the Firebolt is an ellipitcal. Angelfire Reserve somewhere between the 300 & 400 range. Having said that, I'm more familiar with people at your skill level on Navigators than I am on Firebolts, so I'm going to ask a couple of well-respected Instructors to step in and give their two cents. You're on the outside edge of even my Anvil Brothers experience. Edited to add: Well, Scott's already jumped in. We'll see if SkymonkeyOne has a minute. 17. Yes. Solid blue & white tie-dye. What's even more important is that those on big ways love to be in the slot behind/side me cause it's so easy to pick out of the formation. Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard.

  20. Whichever way you go, my suggestion would be to do the loan in writing with serial numbers, duration of loan and such. Divorces, thefts, losses, misunderstandings, etc. all happen. The document will ensure your right to ownership. It may sound like overkill, but I've learned over the years that things have a way of getting muddy with the closest of friends. Personally, I don't loan anything to anyone that I'm not either a) willing to put in writing, or b) if it's the closest of friends willing to walk away from and consider a gift to maintain the friendship. 23. My whole company is on VoIP and it's great. We also have unified messaging so when I get a VMX, it forwards my voice mails & faxes to my email which I play/open on my Q cell phone. Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard.
  24. Every skydiver goes thru bouts of anxiety and anyone who tells you they don't is fibbing. During the early stages of skydiving (first 100ish jumps), there's several times one will question their desire or motivation to jump. Even the SIMS manaul tells us the first jump of the day can be the most anxious. I know that when I'm faced with a day of multiple students, I'm not only faced with my own well-being; but more importantly - theirs. The best remedy for me to "get my head right" is to go up and make a simple "all about me" hop-n-pop. That seems to shake it off, get the adrenaline or endorphins going and puts me in the right place. It's been my experience that even those up North share their anxiety of the first few jumps after a long winter. So, the remedy is to jump with greater frequency, rather than every six weeks or so. And, the more educated you become, the less anxious or concerned you'll be. I'm glad you feel this way. If you didn't feel it at this point in your progression, then you're goofy and probably shouldn't be jumping because you'd either be dangerous to yourself or someone else. It's been a rough year for the skydiving community and your concerns are valid. I know many an experienced jumper that have gone thru this year and given pause to their own motivation... But, in the end, we "have" to do it. You either have to do it or choose to walk away. Only you can decide. Now, I'm going skydiving... Later. 25. Not sure what the original post was; but having tandem "catchers" grab the toggles and "kill" the canopy can help keep the stand-up landing that way. Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard.
