  1. You'll be fine. There's many an AFF first jump student without the benefit of any tandems. You'll have an Instructor with you. Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard.

  3. Chances are really good that a pilot's not going to say get out until >2K. S/he's kinda busy less than that if the shit's hitting the fan. Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard.
  4. You need lots of expensive bling bling to go with the pimping theme thing. Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard.
  5. I learned using the one hand on either side method. For awhile, I taught it this way. I've since moved to teaching the two hands grab cutaway method for two reasons, 1) we can do alot of muscle memory shit, but will a left-handed first time jump actually have that muscle memory or will genetic encoding kick-in, and 2) Had a big student on a large 229 with a lineover. After about three rotations realized he wasn't getting anywhere with one hand so used both. So... why make a future student have to come up with that decision on their own - instead of just incorporating the two-hands on cutaway method into traiing and being done with it. 7. I think a more improtant question is; "Why are people shitting in MY reading room?" Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard.
  8. My point was that I read it as three snippets and not necessarily as a linear sequence of events. The problem here is what Rebecca said to the reporter "may" have been days/months after she signed the petition (and that's giving the media credit for having done anything more than web-surf to substantiate the information). Media: What unit were you stationed with in Iraq? Rebecca: 101st Airborne Where are you stationed now? Ft. Hood, Texas Therefore, the report comes out, "Rebecca--26 years old. 101st Airborne, US Army. Just returned from Iraq. Stationed at Fort Hood, Texas" And, you'll notice "just returned" isn't defined. I know some folks who "just returned" last January. There could be a myriad of reasons why she's no longer with the 101st and now with some unit at Ft. Hood. Injury, compassion leave, pregnancy, who knows... Rather than just keeping this circular, I think we can agree that 1) whether we agree, disagree or even understand - some members of the military signed a petition, 2) The media apparently didn't investigate well and we both notice they picked "the most persuasive and logical of responders" and seemed to have left out the numbnuts, and 3) If you're not willing to stand on a roof top and shout your full name and opinion; then you need to lift your skirt to see if you have the balls to say it or are just a pussy - in which case one should keep their fucking mouth shut. Edit: Is pussy a verb or noun in this case? Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard.
  9. I'm assuming you've called Tom or someone at the DZ and explained your plight. I would think they would be able to walk out on the DZ today and ask some of the skydivers that might be close to you and either give them your name and number or get a couple of names & numbers to give you a ride tomorrow. 10. I read it as three snippets. She could have been with the 101st while in Irag, rotated stateside, could have been re-assigned to 1st Cav and is [now] stationed at Ft. Hood. Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard.
  11. My story is not that unlike Ian's. Got in it in 1981 got out in 1990 while a lot of the benchmark changes were going with rigs and canopies, etc. Got wrapped up in finishing my last year of college, then was activated for Desert Storm, after Desert Storm got accepted to grad school, got in corporate America and before I knew it nine years had slid by. Stayed friends with all my old skydiving buddies while I was a ground-pounder. Then one day in 1999 - I made a couple of Hop-N-Pops and it was off to the DZ every weekend ever since. This is a magnificent sport. From young to old, rich to poor, Christian to Muslim, black to white. There's a discipline for everyone and everyone has a single goal. The outside world doesn't exist and we all share one passion. But, since you asked about gear and specifically mentioned HAHO's and cross-countrys; Go big. Those are some of my favorite jumps... the most favorite being the HAHO SUNSET cross-country. For that, I use my rig that has the PD 300 main. Big, slow-moving, long-riding, soft landing canopy. Skydivers give me a hard time about creating a sunset eclipse with a canopy that big. Some days speed is what I need, but a lot of days; that sunset all about me dive keeps me in sync for days to come. Welcome back. 12. I can't expand too much on what Dan (Strato) said. Our DZ had all Dolphins as student rigs and I always encouraged students to purchase either used or new Dolphins as their first container. I owned one for a looong time and it was an amazing rig (it became a student's personal rig) We had students that went on to FF'ing and used their Dolphins while they were learning. Then as Dan mentions they start moving around to other DZ's and seeing bling bling. But the good news is - their eyes lighting up with glitz means some other new skydiver gets a good used rig. As for customer service, I've yet to get any bad service from any of the rig manufacturers. From those I've purchased and even those I haven't. I've been able to pick up the phone and talk with the owners of; RWS, Mick, Henri, Mike and even Kelly spent an hour with me on the phone one night educating me on my rampage about a competitor's rig mod (Cypres cutter relocation). I have nothing but the utmost respect for the manufacturing owners in this industry. Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard.

  17. You may just have a slight case of burnout or lack of balance between the new career, skydiving, a new city and a slight case of homesickness.... 1. Going back to your old DZ's may provide a good litmus test. 2, Maybe skydiving gave you purpose in that old situation, whereas, you have now a found a newer purpose in other areas. Couple of suggestions: 1. Try a different discipline to see if it renews your enthusiasm and perhaps be a part of a smaller group that helps you grow into that discipline. 2. Set a challenge goal in skydiving for 2007 and work towards it. 3, Ya know the average cycle for a hard-core skydiver is about 7 years in the sport. Some hit it sooner, some later, some not at all. I read in a previous thread where a dz.commer went back to Z-hills three years later and the entire crew of regulars were gone. If you've beeen at this every weekend for five years, maybe a little break would help you decide if its time for out, occasionally, or re-kindle the fire. Time to look introspectively, Bro. Best of luck. Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard.
  18. 1.How do you feel when you go back to your old DZ? 2. Do you find the new career more rewarding than skydiving? Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard.
  19. FWIW - If it were up to me and I had a tunnel in my back yard, I'd have all first jump students spend a couple of minutes in the tunnel going over the TLO's of their first dive. Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard.
  20. Based on the thread title, what I thought was going to turn into a shit storm - has graced us with one of the most profound replies I've ever read on here. Thanks T. Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard.

  22. Ya know, I was watching Cops the other night and I must have busted out laughing about three times. Three different times on this show, the cop told the person they were free to go. Then would "ask" them, "Do you have anything illegal in the car?" No, sir. "Would it be alright if I searched it?" Yes, Sir. BAMMMMMMM There'd be something illegal in the car and off they'd go. I was thinking - are they really that ignorant about their rights or just stupid to think the cops don't know every hiding place on a vehicle? I was once asked by a cop if he could search my vehicle. I told him, "No." He said, "You know I really don't need your permission to search it." I told him, "If you believe that you have the legal right to search this vehicle then you go ahead, but you do NOT have my permission." He said, "What are you afraid of?" "I'm afraid you don't have a warrant." I didn't feel as though I'd made a new friend that day. Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard.
  23. Perhaps you could share this information with the manufacturer and follow up the thread by letting us know what they think? I'd be curious also. While the baro scenario could have some bearing, I'm more likely to agree with Andy (POPS) and go with battery. Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard.
