I find it interesting that this question was proposed by a Doctor. Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard.

When you're in an elevator going up... everyone is looking up. When you're going down; they're all looking down. When you've pushed the elevator button and it's already lit up; does their pushing it several more times make it go faster? When someone opens the refrigerator door and say's, "There's nothing to eat." Then goes back two or three more times to see if something has magically appeared since the last time they opened it. When the office wants to go to lunch and you ask, "Where?" And, they respond, "I don't care." Then when you say, "OK, let's go to "X" and they say, "No, I don't want to go there." OK, then you did care. When you go to Burger King and there's a guy in front of you staring at the menu for ten minutes. It's not like the menu has changed in the past five years. Is there any such thing as a Referendum in the USA?

On one hand, you acknowledge the dilution of the Legion of Merit which is the case for many awards these days. Having gone in at the end of Vietnam, those who wore their awards (medals) did so and were revered because the criteria was established. THe CIB meant something as did the Bronze Star (which can be awarded with or without the "V" device). During Grenada, the dilution began. I know many a soldier who participated in Grenada and were more ashamed of being awarded CIB's and Bronze Stars for Grenada because they knew the criteria for the CIB as the dilution began then. Over the years, I saw Bronze Stars awarded to officers whose butts sat at Ft. Bragg (w/o the "V" device) while others on the battlefield in the face of fire received nothing. You say most Americans would be "offended" if those at Ft. Hood were not awarded the PH. Perhaps this is the time to honor the criteria established for the PH and/or to bring the criteria back up for all the awards. I too, have received a symphony of medals of which some I am ashamed of having received. In one case, I received an Army Commendation medal for being involved in operations planning (and it's success), but received an Army Achievement medal for a life-saving action (for those unknowing on the thread, the Achievement Medal is a lesser award than the Commendation Medal). In addition, I know of 31 soldiers who died at Ft. Hood in preparation for Desert Storm... Any less of a sacrifice? They didn't receive any medals higher than a ArCom. Right now, there is a lot of emotion surrounding this incident, but I ask if it had been Major Smith, who happened to be a Christian extremist (they kill too) had committed the act whether we would be having this discussion. And, by definition of U.S. law could be considered an act of terrorism. I'm not saying your argument is not without merit... they do deserve acknowledgment. But, let's not react in the emotion of the moment. Some may know that the Army and Air Force are the only two branches that do not award a "V" device for the Legion of Merit. And, let me close with this... Is the sacrifice made by the police officer who shot him to be overlooked and not acknowledged in like simply because she wore a different uniform? Whereas, by preserving the criteria for the Purple Heart and making the criteria solid for the award they _may_ receive... America can be proud of whatever award they may receive for those who died during this unfortunate incident. IMO, One cannot complain about the dilution of the Legion of Merit on one hand, while asking for the dilution of the PH on the other. Personally, I look to a logical solution in honoring those who died without this sad situation becoming a reason and a catalyst for diluting the PH. Once diluted, it never regains a higher criteria. Let's take our time and do this right. Honor the PH, honor those who passed and honor those police officers in an appropriate manner. Let's not award the PH just to make ourselves feel better. For the record: Comments: They _may_ receive the Legion of Merit. The Purple Heart does not necessarily move one up in line for VA services. Unless the PH holder is >50% disabled, they can remain as a Priority 3 within the VA system, whereas a 100% service-connected disabled vet that does not hold the PH can be a Priority 1. http://www4.va.gov/healtheligibility/eligibility/PriorityGroupsAll.asp Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard.

The good news is... you have a choice whether to buy it or not. So far, no one has thought, "Let's just issue the same old plate, but charge an extra $100.00 for it." Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard.

Max, Sounds like a symphony of errors on both her and her leadership. Since I've been out for awhile, perhaps you could answer a question for me. When she found out that her Family Care Plan was no longer valid; could she not have submitted for a Humanitarian Transfer or Hardship Discharge? Or, do they not offer that anymore. On a separate note... I do not think that single parents (male or female) should be allowed to enlist and those who become single parents after enlistment should receive an administrative discharge. Sorry, but it's the military, not corporate America. Soldiers have to wrap themselves around the unit's objectives unencumbered by issues with being a single parent. Sorry, this is going to be a little long-winded. Please do not take the results of a "standardized test" as a reflection of your knowledge. My own personal experience with fill-in-the-blanks tests was pointed out to me by an undergrad professor. All thru college I had been getting mostly B's, the occasional A and an intermittent sprinkling of C's. In my last year, after taking a test and getting the usual B; the professor asks me to stay after class for a minute to talk about my grades. He said, "I know your goal is to go on to grad school and I'm curious as to how you can argue in class at the graduate level; but, only get B's on your tests." I explained to him that when I do the pre-assigned study work that I not only read the book, but the bibliography at the end and then while I'm at the library actually go get the sources cited and read what the authors actually wrote instead of just the text's synopsis. I also explained that I had never done well on multiple guess tests and I read too much into the answers and add situational factors, rather than just taking it at face value. I went on to share with him that I truly disliked multiple guess tests as a measure of what i know and thought that standardized tests were for the convenience of the teacher, not the measure of the student. He asked if I'd prefer essay exams. I told him I would. Next exam, he hands out a test to everyone and then walks back and hands me mine. One of the students asked how come I get my own test and the Professor explained that I had opted for an essay exam. My fellow students were appalled - "You LIKE essay exams?!?!?!" Yup. End story: I got an "A" and he shared it with the other professors who in turn gave me essay exams. This did well in preparing me for grad school since most of the exams I took were essay and I had to do a thesis. I later learned that there are just some people who lock up on standardized tests. My niece could not pass the MCAT. She would literally throw up. Now, she can take all the regular tests in class, but there was something about the MCAT that just made her wet her panties. The school did some kind of magic to get her a verbal exam. She graduates in May with honors. So, here I am going for my pilot's instrument rating exam and that is one motherfucker of a test. I flunked 3 pre-tests. Knew the material backwards and forwards. So, I went to a person who specializes in teaching people how to take guess tests. It was interesting to learn that I was doing this to myself. I spent a couple of weeks learning how to take a multiple guess test (this person had no pilot knowledge; just great knowledge on taking an exam). I got a 97 on the instrument exam. Final note: when I became an adjunct, the first day of class I offered my students the choice of multiple choice or essay. Interestingly enough, it was about 60% MG and 40% essay. Was it more work on me grading papers... yes. But, I also had one of the highest pass ratios of any of the professors. One of the other professors in the department raised an objection as to the ease of my tests. The Department Committee did a test analysis. Mine were harder. Little too much "I" "me," in here, but it's about my previous experience. Here's what I want to share... don't take this as a reflection on your knowledge or self. It may be that you do not need a course knowledge tutor; but a test tutor. It sounds like you are doing the same thing time and time again with the same results. Now, stop your crying and do something different. Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard.

Spending $500.00 for an attorney for good advice may be a lot cheaper than some of the "freakin" advice she's getting on here. It's not just a speeding ticket. Depending on the State, a subsequent ticket in the same year can raise her insurance rates as much as 30% for three years (assuming a grand a year, that increase will cost her $900.00). Traffic school has a cost - to go, to be away from work, to have to go back to court to present the completion certificate. A subsequent ticket in the same year after traffic school will mean nothing. If an attorney can get it removed, reduced or something else by speaking with the prosecutor (attorneys hang out with attorneys), It was 9 miles an hour over, a good attorney could prolly get the thing thrown out or at least suspended for a year. And, for the record (pun intended), that officer WILL be in court. And, he might even bring that little pesky dash cam thingie. I stand by what I recommended.
