Buying a rig, found one but not sure if I should get it...
BIGUN replied to treyman32003's topic in Gear and Rigging
The below hyperlinks are to the Aerodyne and Performance Designs reserve recommendations: http://www.flyaerodyne.com/fly/products/smartSelector.asp http://www.performancedesigns.com/products.asp?product=pr I'm a bit "old school," but believe those who are in the student/novice and even up to the Intermediate range should not jump a reserve in which their total exit weight should not be greater than at least 1.0:1. One should also consider the reserve as their first choice in a purchase. A reserve is not a backup canopy, but your primary canopy. Wingloading Calculator While there are those that will tell you, that one can expect a reserve ride in "x" out of "y" jumps, there are those that have had 2 and even 3 reserve rides in one day. Conversely, there are those that have thousands of jumps with no reserve ride. However, no one will dispute that there is a reserve ride in someone's future. Old saying, "there's them that's had a reserve ride and them what's going to have a reserve ride." The reserve canopy is F-111 and a seven cell which makes for completely different flying and landing characteristics. If you do a search on "Reserve Wingloading" you'll find several threads on the subject matter and one of the most important things I've heard that still rings true today... "If you think you can land even a perfect 1.2 to 1 7-cell canopy in someone's backyard surrounded by trees, you might choose that size reserve. That being said, I have never been under a sport reserve wishing it were smaller." ~Billvon, 2002 If one cannot land their main canopy in those conditions yet, then should one consider a reserve that is smaller than their main? IMO, There is no such thing as too large a reserve. Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard. -

AFF is one of three methods of entry into the sport. It takes generally 7-9 jumps to satisfactorily pass on to the Category to be released for solo freefalls or working with Coaches who will assist you in dive and canopy skills to acheive the A license. All jumps count towards the 25 jump minimum requirement for the A License, but not all points of performance may have been met in that 25 jumps or all categories.. It is important to work with your Instructors and Coaches before each jump along with your proficiency card to plan your dive, dive your plan and meet the objectives of that jump to ensure the proper sign-off. As soon as you enroll, ask your Instructors not only for the logbook, but an "A" License proficiency card and read/download/buy a copy of the Skydiver Information Manual ( SIM) Many have met the requirements in less than the requisite 25 jumps to achieve the A license and in my experience, those who have not met the requirements in 25 jumps were not working with Instructors/Coaches to follow the dive plans on the proficiency cards and suddenly find themselves at jump number 20 trying to compress the final components of the Proficiency card into a few jumps and do not meet the dive/canopy objectives resulting in a > 25 jump license completion path. AND, that's OK. It's a a marathon and not a sprint. Some people also take longer with certain components and can finish most everything in 22-23 jumps and get stuck on one point of proficiency which carries them over the 25 jump benchmark. Who cares. It's not about numbers. It's about a commitment to learning and having fun while doing it. Some of the best skydivers I know (as in national or world-class champions) were some of the worst students and in some cases thought about bailing on the sport, but pressed on. A couple didn't get their "A" License until ~40 - 50 jumps. Have fun. Don't hold yourself to such finite milestones. Your Instructors and Coaches are motivated to assist you in achieving those goals. Some people cross the marathon finish line first, but everyone crosses the line at different intervals. - but they all cross the finish line. Agreed, I've been using the Otterbox Defender series for my BB which is a hard case cover with a hard plastic skin over that since I'm hard on cell phones. The hard cover case is pretty tight on the BB so I'm very doubtful the powermat charger would affix to the BB w/o my having to unwrap the skin and take the BB out of the hardcase each time. I hope the Power Mat folks get to a point where one can just drop a rechargeable device on it without any add-ons. Over the years, I have taken to donating to the "Make a Wish" foundation or "St. Jude's Hospital." Both organization's will have a certificate or card they will send or that you can download to send the intended gift-receiver. For as little as $5.00. Sprint Feeds Customer GPS Data to Law Enforcement over a Web Portal
BIGUN replied to BIGUN's topic in Speakers Corner
I was a Sprint customer for a little while and I remember reading the Privacy Policy. On the customer end; they make it sound as though they would cooperate with Law Enforcement Officials when the rule of law is applied/presented. I know it didn't say anything about opening a web portal for them to surf our surfing at leisure. Now, I'm all for law and order... but, what I am not for is indiscriminate invasion of privacy. Just say, "No?" Just say, "Have you got a warrant/subpoena?" Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard. -
