There IS a problem with global warming... it stopped in 1998
BIGUN replied to rushmc's topic in Speakers Corner
The study's findings present "irrefutable evidence" that the Earth is on track for one of the most "pessimistic" models for rising sea levels, said Erik Ivins, lead scientist at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California, and one of the study's authors. Cumulative ice losses from Greenland as a whole have been close to the rates predicted by the United Nations' Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change for a high-end climate warming scenario, which forecasts an additional 50 to 120 millimeters of sea-level rise by 2100, the study states. The findings of the study predict an additional 70 to 130 millimeters by 2100. https://abcnews.go.com/International/greenland-ice-sheet-melting-expose-400-million-people/story?id=67655108 -

We saw it in Vietnam, Desert Storm (Highway of Death), Abu Ghraib, Gallagher, etc. When we were in - there were many classes in leadership that included the legal, moral and ethical positions of war. As a SERE Instructor; we taught the Geneva Convention. During the Highway of Death - I turned to a Full Bird and asked, "What the fuck are we doing?" He said, he really said this... "They haven't dropped their weapons, so according to the Geneva Convention; they're still combatants." "Sir, they're fucking peasants heading north to Iraq in retreat." Abu Ghraib - where the fuck were the NCO's? As an E-8; I don't think that would have happened on my watch, yours or anyone else's with any testicles. Leadership doesn't always mean standing tall in the face of the enemy. Sometimes, it means standing tall in the face of your own men and saying, "Knock that shit off."

Love it. Years of both Harley & skydiving shit would go in mine. The "Last Load Lounge" would HAVE to have the requisite cable spool table for ambience. My only question is - Where ya gonna put the stripper pole?

A guy is walking past an insane asylum when he hears the residents inside chanting, "Thirteen! Thirteen! Thirteen!" Curious, he finds a hole in the wall and looks in. Immediately he's poked in the eye, then everyone inside starts chanting, "Fourteen! Fourteen! Fourteen!" _______________________________ Three men wait at the gates of heaven on Christmas Eve. They're told they have to present a Christmas gift to get in. The first man checks his pockets and finds pine needles from his family's tree. He's allowed in. The second hands over a bow and some ribbon. He's allowed in. The third man pulls out a pair of panties. "How do those represent Christmas?" St. Peter asks him. "Oh," the man replies, "they're Carol's." _______________________________ A man thinks he is a dog, so he goes to see a psychiatrist. "It's terrible," says the man. "I walk around on all fours, I keep barking in the middle of the night, and I can't go past a lamppost anymore." "Okay," says the psychiatrist. "Get on the couch." The man replies, "I'm not allowed on the couch." _______________________________ What did the elephant say to the naked guy? "Fine, but can it pick up peanuts?" _______________________________ A woman asked her grandmother how her grandfather had died. "He had a heart attack while we were making love one Sunday morning," Granny said. Horrified, the granddaughter told her that two people that old having sex would surely be asking for trouble. "Oh, no," said Granny. "Many years ago we realized that ringing church bells provided the perfect rhythm: in on the ding and out on the dong." She paused, wiped away a tear, and continued, "But then the ice-cream truck came along." _______________________________ "Two drivers climb out of their cars after colliding at an intersection. One pulls a flask from his pocket and says, "Here, have a nip of whiskey to calm your nerves." "Thanks," says the other driver, taking a swig. "Here, you have one, too." "Nah, I'd rather not — the police will be here soon." _______________________________

The Viet Cong were neither. They were communist aggressors.

He is. I am. Some of the original peeps stop in on occasion. Seems the whole world now revolves around FB. SC is still quite lively - if you dare. Glad you stopped in to visit.

Do a Google Search on "Falls from Height" (FFH). You'll find numerous studies on the subject. In the end, you will learn that Falls from Height (FFH) are the second most common cause of death from unintentional injuries after motor vehicle collisions.

You know; I'm not even tracking you on this one. What I thought may be a substantive discussion has again turned to snap rubber band - one liners. I'm done. Take care. Best to the family.

You're mistaken, Bill. It's not free stuff.

Joe, not all deficits are alike. When the government increases non-capital spending, it shrinks the private economy. When a government cuts taxes, particularly those on capital, it can release resources and leave future generations with a larger economy. In general, the full effects of tax cuts on growth aren’t felt for a decade or more. One future (the next) generation can have benefits in the form of higher productivity and wages. But we always swing too far each way depending on the party in power. While great in theory and in practicality; politics plays havoc on the models. Say, the interest costs jump three times higher than expected and growth is one-tenth smaller. In that case, future generations would barely break even. They would be saddled with debt and have barely enough output to pay for it. Politicians should be cautious about increasing the government’s long-term spending non-capital commitments. And IMO, they should continue to seek growth-enhancing tax reductions. Course it's a fifty-year argument at this point. Your party; my party. It really doesn’t matter who brings on the financial doom because everyone will blame the last one or two or current President. IMO, anything but a balanced budget will lead to eventual ruin (and you may not have read it in my previous posts – but have always supported a balanced budget and zero-based budgeting). If we don't learn to grow together; then we will continue to grow apart.

No need to worry until the the Bond Market is worried.

Nice try at twisting shit around to create yet another fantastic circular argument.

No, it doesn't... I don't usually imply anything. I'm usually pretty explicit with this crowd.

If you've got a point - make it.

You can disagree with the comments about her performance and campaign (I was trying to keep a short list and forgot the etc., etc.). But, I still stand by my statement of: The country will be ready for a woman president when she presents herself as someone with sound policy and a vision for the future of our country, not because it’s time to elect a woman as president.
-
Clinton’s loss cannot be attributed to the fact that she was a woman, but because she ran a poor campaign. Clinton’s loss had little to do with her being a woman. She was the wrong woman. It was Clinton who called millions of people in this country “deplorables.” It was Clinton who stated that coal miners would be put out of work. The country will be ready for a woman president when she presents herself as someone with sound policy and a vision for the future of our country, not because it’s time to elect a woman as president.
