Noice! What part of the country are you in? Killing threads since 2004.

You ain't kiddin'. Thankfully I was using our small one. I would have lost three fingers if I was using the powerful one! Killing threads since 2004.

I used to watch my grandfather test how sharp a knife was by running it along his thumb. I tried twice before someone explained to me that his thumb was calloused, hence the reason it didn't cut him. It totally ruined my perception of him being invincible! Killing threads since 2004.

I was just outside using a pressure washer to clean off the handful of ATVs we use at work. I got some nasty gunk on my hand and even though I was totally aware that it was a bad idea, my body was a step ahead of my brain and I stuck my hand about an inch in front of the nozzle. I now have a nice sized gash across the base of a few fingers. I know I've done this kind of thing before, where you are completely aware that something is stupid and exactly what is going to happen, but for some reason it takes your brain just a bit too long to interfere with your actions? How about you - who else has had something like this happen? Killing threads since 2004.

I occasionally think I miss snow. I guess I do up to about the point in the picture, where it could warm up the next day and all be gone. While it would be nice to see a brief flurry, I think I'm just fine with it being 75 degrees in December. Killing threads since 2004.

I've been trying to get my family to do this. I love giving and getting gifts when there is thought involved and the gift really means something, but I detest having to come up with ideas for gifts because you have to give one, or having people spend money on me when I just don't feel it is necessary, or even worse, asking me for a list of what I want. The last few years I have just tried to do something for my family as a whole without giving individual gifts. Last year I bought a few fun family type games and we decided on a day that the whole famliy would stay home and hang out. This year, since my siblings will all be visiting my parents for the first time in a while I'm going to get a family picture taken and get a framed copy for everyone. Killing threads since 2004.

Re: $ - I've served twice, and both times there was a minimal stipend offered by the court if you were not being paid by your employer. Something like $30 a day. Worth checking out! I learned a lot on the last case, mainly that the sleazy looking public defender rocked, and that if I ever end up in court I hope I have the same guy representing the prosecution. He was a moron! Very happy that the furthest North my holiday travels take me is Atlanta! Killing threads since 2004.

I actually enjoyed it the last time I was called in NYC. I thought about trying to get out of it, but when I sat there during jury selection and listened to the complete BS stories people were coming with to get out of it I just decided that if I was to get picked, so be it. I did get picked, and the case was kind of interesting. Seemed totally open and shut at the beginning, but as it went on we realized that it was completely opposite of what we expected. Oh, and it was a stressful time at work and was kind of nice to spend a week away. Killing threads since 2004.

So are you going to drop mum off at the airport this time? Would hate to hear about your hubby rear ending another dump truck. Killing threads since 2004.

5th grade. I let a silent one go just outside the classroom door and then proceeded to walk around the perimeter of the room to get to my desk. I never smelled a thing as I was walking away from it, but all of a sudden other students started freaking out. The teacher started getting a little mad at them, until she caught a whiff. She opened the window to start, but the decided it was time for an impromptu recess. It caught up to me after I got to my desk. That was a once in a lifetime smell. I don't know what they were feeding us in the lunchroom that day, but I often wish I knew so I could eat some before heading out to the dropzone so I can get some retribution on the plane! How great! I used to belong to a kayak club in Tribeca and led trips up to the Intrepid for the general public. I always loved the response people gave when paddling up right next to it. Things changed a lot after Sept. 11th, but you could still get close enough for it to be awe inspiring. I would love to have been on the water to watch it leave. Killing threads since 2004.

I tried to have all the fun with it I could. I mentioned in a different thread that I wore my Georgia shirt while teaching a Red Cross class on the day of the GA-FL game and had a guy decided to reschedule because he couldn't stand to see me up there wearing that shirt on such an important day! Maybe you should invest in some red and grey to wear continuously for the next month! Killing threads since 2004.

The painting is great, nice job! I hate the giving of gifts just because you are supposed to. I love the giving of gifts when it really means something to the giver/receiver. I usually try to make gifts more of an experience if possible. Last year, totally broke over the holidays, I bought what I thought would be a fun dvd trivia game and brought it home as my gift to the whole family. We spent hours laughing our asses off playing the game, and I was much happier with that than if I had just come up with some little thing for everyone individually. This year I think I'll be able to pull together the cash to go and have family pics taken. It's been about 15 years! While I do appreciate gifts that are sentimental in nature, or that someone puts time into making, I'm not really a big fan of "knick knacky" type gifts that will just end up in a drawer. I appreciate the thought, but I'd prefer "let's go spend the day at the park and I'll pack the lunch" to being given a card that I know I'll keep in a drawer and then feel bad about tossing later. I do believe I left Gainesville at just the right moment. I had some good times being a Georgia fan in the swamp, but I won't be shedding any tears about being gone over the next month or so. Have fun over there! Killing threads since 2004.

I love banana spiders - they make some pretty neat webs, but holy crap what a pain in the ass at times. The 2nd week I lived in Florida I was hauling ass on an atv out to a small wildfire only to plow right through a huge web. Just as I got it cleard off my face I hit another one! I swear I'm STILL picking out bits of web. I learned to be a lot more careful after that. Killing threads since 2004.

Uh, yeah...a playoff system would be great, but until they figure out a way to make as much money from that as they do off of bowl games I think it's nothing short of a dream. I'm happy to see Florida in the game. I'm not a Florida fan. Hell, I'm a Georgia fan, I hate the damn Gators, but I think it worked out for the right teams to be meeting. That said, I feel like Ohio State is really the champ regardless of the championship game. Killing threads since 2004.

Yet another vote for USAA here. I have everything with them...auto insurance, renter's insurance, auto loan, banking, etc. I just went through a total loss claim on my travel trailer and they were absolutely amazing, going above and beyond to help me get everything settled quickly while I was in the process of moving to Texas. I can't compare them to other companies as they are the only company I've ever used, but I have never had a complaint. Killing threads since 2004.

What are your rules of your life and how you live it?
FlyingJ replied to MikeForsythe's topic in The Bonfire
Lot's of great "life rules" listed here! I really only have one. I figure that life is far to short to be unhappy, whether it be with your work, or life in general. I try to make my decisions based on what is going to keep me happy. In the years since college every job I've taken has resulted in less money, but greater enjoyment, and I'll be damned if now after 8 years I've found something that combines awesome work and a damn good time all at the same time! We'll all die way too soon to be unhappy with what we are doing! Edited to add: Yup, I'm also single, no kids. We'll see how my outlook might change if I find myself paying for a family someday. I guess that is precisely the time that you would want to be able to hold more than 300 pics! I've never heard of the "XD Media" card that Olympus sells, but I guess it is just their brand of memory card. I'm sure the 1g card would be plenty. Possibly even the 512mb, but seems like you're better safe than sorry. Heck, if the place you get it from has a good return policy, you could buy two and leave the second one unopened. If you need it you have it, if not you can return it. Killing threads since 2004.

It all depends on the camera settings in regard to the resolution of the pics, etc. If you are taking low quality pics you can fit a lot more on the card, high resolution pics a lot less. It's possible that in comparing the two they are referring to different quality resolutions when saying how many pics the camera can hold. On my camera, set to take pics of mid to high quality I can fit upwards of 300 or so pics on my 512mb card. I don't know what exactly you'll be using the camera for, but I typically don't ever need to hold more than 300 pics at a time, and the middle of the line quality still results in printable photos. I missed the GA/FL game on TV because I was teaching a Red Cross class, but I actually had someone decide to reschedule the class because they couldn't sit there and look at me wearing a Georgia shirt all day on such an important game day. Tee hee! Killing threads since 2004.

Rumor control says, "They did disown ya, and have exiled your ass to Texas." hehe...I don't think it's going to be as much fun cheering for UGA out here as it was living in Gainesville. Just something about loving what everyone around you rabidly hates. Kind of like cheering for the Braves while they played the Mets and later Yankess for the league and later world series. Those games made for some fun rides home on the subway. Killing threads since 2004.

I've been sitting here with my thumb up my ass trying to figure out what the fuck you two were going on about. Finally figured it out. My family would freakin' disown me if they ever knew I had posted with a subject that said GO Vols! Killing threads since 2004.
